COCO-MAT sleep on nature The best beds in the world and completely metal-free. “I met at eve the Prince of Sleep, his was a still and smiling face.” 4 COCO-MAT Walter de la Mare COCO-MAT 5 COCO-MAT sleep on nature Morpheus, my grand - grand father, God of Dreams, loved sleeping on beaches on thick layers of seaweed. 20 Years ago, enjoying a nap at the same Morpheus seaside, full with seaweed and cotton plants, I promised my grand father the purest and most natural bed for his comfort and dreams. The balm of relaxation in troubled times became a passion. Morpheus has, by whispering all his secrets, helped with the creation of the new natural bed. 175.259 hours of research, product development and endless love for nature resulted in a perpetual stream of ideas and experiments. Coco-mat, a company which belongs to millions of sleep-lovers. Our customers sleep desires overwhelmed Coco-mat and natural materials started dancing on the stage. Horsehair with natural rubber, the best tango on earth. Cotton, wool, silk and linen provide softness and glamour. Charm and enchantment, ancient Greek secrets, hand in hand with modern global night wishes. The worlds most famous institutions in the field of quality, sustainability, ecology, social responsibility and business excellence have honoured Coco-mat with the highest awards. Can Coco-mat improve your quality of life? You tell us! Your opinion and ideas are as precious. Please whisper your myth to us. Paul Efmorfidis Founder of COCO-MAT 6 COCO-MAT COCO-MAT 7 cotton silk coco fibre horse hair natural rubber seaweed Natural rubber occurs as a milky juice which is extracted from the tropical tree Hevea. Natural rubber is known for its elasticity, a property which remains by use and the passing of time. Its porous carbonunaffected texture guarantees sufficient ventilation. Also, it cotton de best natural cotton rubber breath feel the look natural rubber kokos like many other COCO-MAT believes that Mother Nature has a plan. Whatever she provides us with has a raison d’être, perfect functionality and sometimes, yet to be revealed, properties. coated kokos since the mountain rubber like in a film cotton when ever there is cotton when ever there is All raw materials that we use are 100% natural and are derived from sustainable resources, coming from a deep-felt belief and ancient philosophy (Theophrastos, 371 BC) that “if there is a purpose in nature, it is not to serve mankind, but to ensure the perpetual reproduction of all”. constitutes an inhospitable environment for bacteria and microbes of any kind. 100% “Nothing but blue skies from now on” wood Wood is one of the oldest materials used for construction and manufacturing furniture known to man. COCO-MAT exclusively uses hardwood, which does not undergo any chemical processes during manufacturing. horse and camel hair Horsehair is known for being beneficial to people suffering for rheumatism due to its ability to regulate humidity and to produce a dry environment. At the same time, it is a very durable material. Its elasticity is increased by spraying it with natural rubber juice. Camelhair is light and very soft. It originates from countries like Mongolia, Turkey and Tibet and is gathered when camels moult in warmer seasons. Its excellent insulating capabilities keeps us cool in the summer and warm in winter. Camelhair breathes and therefore regulates humidity. 8 COCO-MAT Instead of using artificial substitutes, COCO-MAT relies on what nature has given us, discovering time and time again how perfect Mother Nature’s design indeed is and how useful its ‘fruits’ can be for our daily lives. pure, safe and neutral raw materials Willy Nelson But we go one step further than that: our factories have no chimneys; material left-overs are used for the creation of new products, i.e. slippers; instead of plastic bags, we use fabric bags; our recycling rate reaches 96%. The world, as we know it, is a precious gift to us and we’re trying hard to preserve it for the generations to come. COCO-MAT 9 wool and cotton Wool keeps us cool in summer and warm in winter by retaining air. Wool is known to regulate the humidity of the environment as it is capable of absorbing 1/3 of its weight in moisture. Light, comfortable and cool it is included in many COCO-MAT fabrics. coco fibre The coco fibres surround the coconut and protect it from environmental influences. Coco fibres ensure the correct ventilation of the product in which they are being used. Elasticated coco fibre, that is coco fibre that has been sprayed with natural rubber juice, is renowned for its long term endurance and exemplary ventilation and isolating properties. linen Linen also is a historic material in fabric production valued for its exceptional coolness and freshness in hot weather. It is highly absorbent, but will never cling to wet skin. Linen is a very strong fabric praised for its endurance and longevity. active carbon Active carbon is used for absorbing odours and harmful substances as well as purifying the surrounding air. Active carbon has a heightened ability to absorb those substances which are responsible for foul odours in the atmosphere thereby producing a healthy and odour-free atmosphere. 10 COCO-MAT Seaweed contains iodine, a trace element necessary for the composition of the thyroid hormones. Thanks to this property, it provides a natural shield against allergies, asthma and respiratory problems. Furthermore, it displays good isolating capacities. Cotton is one of the oldest materials used in fabric production. Its softness, absorbency and strength paired with lightness and hypoallergenic properties constitute it as a material which has endured time. silk goose down Nothing compares to the gentle embrace of goose down. The collected goose down is washed and sterilized prior to use. Light, almost airy – 1.000.000 goose down feathers weigh 1kg – soft and fluffy it warms your body without ‘overheating’ it, thanks to its unique ability to breathe. seaweed cactus Who doesn’t admire the elegant and luxurious feel of silk? Silk is incomparable to any other material used in the textile industry with regards to its touch, lustre, lightness and endurance. Its good absorbency makes it comfortable to wear in warm weather without getting hot. The fiber which makes up the cactus, a plant which evolved 35 million years ago and has remained untouched by humans since, is collected and manufactured into 3 cm thick sheets. As a material it is highly durable, strong and humidity-absorbent. COCO-MAT 11 “Once in green time a flower fell in love with the sun” Janis Joplin 12 COCO-MAT COCO-MAT 13 Sleep is equally important for humans as the air we breathe, the water we drink or the food we eat. In fact, a person can remain longer alive without food, than without sleep! While sleeping, our body has the opportunity to “recharge its batteries”, to restore and repair itself. Getting enough sleep each night is vital for our physical, mental and emotional health. However, not only how long we sleep is important, but also on what we sleep. COCO-MAT promotes the concept of elasticity: not hard or soft, but a mattress which combines both. It is hard enough to provide adequate unique your personalised bed support to the heavier parts of the body and soft enough to fill the little curves and voids of our bodies. An elastic mattress embraces the body entirety without altering its natural posture or forcing it to adapt to the mattress. An elastic mattress is a COCO-MAT mattress. 14 COCO-MAT COCO-MAT 15 you choose. 5. pillow 3. 4. topper top-mattress meet the 4-layer There is a philosophy behind a COCO-MAT bed, Its all about combining. 1. The base; you choose a bed. The three options are: Pyrros, Eas and Pythagoras. 2. Then you add a mattress that suits your body best. The options are; Atlas, Nefeli, Afroditi, Ikaros, Kyveli. 1. bed-mattress 16 COCO-MAT 2. mattress 3. No matress is perfect on it’s own. For additional comfort you choose our topmattress Ivisikos. 4. Finally the topper, Kyriaki, that embraces each curve of your body for the ultimate sleeping experience! 5. However good and comfortable your bed - a good pillow is essential. COCO-MAT 17 1. bedmattresses A bed-mattress is exactly that: a bed (simple, wooden base) and a mattress – all in one piece. The difference between a COCO-MAT bed-mattress and a traditional bed with a mattress on top is the ergo-base. This is an ergonomic construction – invented by COCO-MAT – which is placed beneath all the materials of the mattress which replaces the usual bed slats. This ergo-base is capable of absorbing shocks; thereby it is able to transport the weight of the body more evenly throughout the bed. All of COCO-MAT’s bed-mattresses include the ergobase. Their difference then consists in the type of mattress which is included in the bed-mattress. 1.1) bed-mattress Due to their method of manufacture and the absence of metal, our bed-mattresses are “noiseless”. Bedmattresses can be used alone or in combination with mattresses and/or top-mattresses. The bed mattress Pyrros contains the mattress Atlas, which is placed on top of an ergo-base. It offers perfect isometrical support as well as exceptional elasticity. COCO-MAT’s bed-mattresses are available in a variety of sizes and can also be custom-made to fit your particular needs. Additionally, we offer a wide selection of fabrics for the bed-mattress and headboard cover. Pyrros is suitable for all body types. pyrros materials: wood (ergo-base) natural rubber coco fibre seaweed cotton wool Height: ± 32 cm excl. legs We offer 3 types of bed-mattresses: 1.1 Pyrros 1.2 Eas 1.3 Pythagoras 18 COCO-MAT COCO-MAT 19 1.2) bed-mattress Eas includes the mattress Nefeli and is generally considered to be less elastic than the Pyrros. It is perfect for all of those who prefer a less elastic bed while still wanting to enjoy full-body support. materials: wood (ergo-base) natural rubber coco fibre horse hair cotton wool Height: ± 32 cm excl. legs eas bed-mattress 1.3) pythagoras The bed-mattress Pythagoras is the result of listening to our customers who wished they could personally design their bed according to their individual needs and preferences. Pythagoras is a fully customizable bed-mattress, made according to your specifications to match your own body type; it is a pioneer product with regards to its innovative design and quality. materials: wood (ergo-base) natural rubber coco fibre cotton wool Height: ± 32 cm excl. legs 20 COCO-MAT COCO-MAT 21 2. mattresses COCO-MAT mattresses are made from 100% natural materials and contain no metal springs. The successful performance of a mattress depends on the quality of its materials as well as their quantity. At COCO-MAT, we use only the best materials that nature provides. All our mattresses have zipped covers, that are made from organic cotton with wool padding and which can be removed and machine-washed thus ensuring perfect hygiene. The characteristics of materials used in each of our mattresses also ensure their ventilation and prolong the life-span of a mattress. Our double beds are made using ‘split’ mattresses joint together by an external cover. The split mattresses’ greatest advantage is that one person’s movement during the night does not affect the other person’s rest. 2.1) mattress atlas Six layers of natural materials produce a versatile and extremely comfortable mattress. Atlas’ outer layers of natural rubber are different in height. Practically that means that you can choose between varying degrees of elasticity – making it suitable for all body types. The seaweed, which is rich in iodine, is very beneficial for the respiratory system. materials: natural rubber coco fibre seaweed cotton wool Height: ± 18 cm COCO-MAT mattresses are available in all sizes and suit all body types. 22 COCO-MAT COCO-MAT 23 2.2) mattress nefeli The Nefeli mattress contains 4 layers of natural materials. One of them being horsehair, which is known for its natural ability to regulate humidity. Nefeli is suitable for all body types, but often recommended to those who suffer from rheumatisms. materials: natural rubber coco fibre horsehair wool cotton 2.3) mattress afroditi Afroditi contains just one layer of natural rubber, a material renowned for its elasticity, a property which remains unaffected by use and the passing of time. Its porous texture guarantees excellent ventilation. Afroditi is ideally suited for lighter body types. materials natural rubber wool cotton Height: ± 15 cm Height: ± 18 cm 24 COCO-MAT COCO-MAT 25 2.4) mattress iraklis Iraklis is the one mattress that combines all of our natural materials! Its two sides – one is natural rubber, the other coco fibre – offer varying degrees of elasticity. As one of our less elastic mattresses, Iraklis is perfectly suited for children. materials: natural rubber coco fibre horsehair seaweed cotton wool mattress 2.5) kyveli Kyveli is a mattress mainly used for decorational purposes, for example for benches or couches. Its unique way of manufacture prevents the material from moving thereby providing even and unchanging support. materials: natural rubber flakes cotton wool Height: ± 9 cm Height: ± 14 cm 26 COCO-MAT COCO-MAT 27 3. top-mattress iviskos Mattresses are by design able to support the heavy parts of the body, mainly the waist and hip areas. This means that those parts of our skeletal and muscular system which are light and curvy, such as the neck, the legs and the arms are insufficiently supported. COCO-MAT was the first company to introduce the top-mattress as a solution to specifically deal with this intrinsic weakness of mattresses. They enable the mattress to adapt to the body – not the other way around. This way, the body remains in its natural posture, no part of it is cramped or forced into an unnatural position. COCO-MAT’s top-mattresses are, just like our mattresses, equipped with zippers, which enable the removal and cleaning of its covers. A top-mattress improves the performance of any mattress, no matter how firm or old it is. They are available in different sizes and can also be custom-made. 4. topper kyriaki materials: natural rubber cotton wool Height: ± 6 cm The top-mattress Kyriaki should only be used in addition to the top-mattress Iviskos. Its filling – goose down – is more flexible and adaptable than any other material creating a delightful ‘nest-like’ feeling of support and comfort. materials: goose down cotton Height: ± 5 cm Iviskos consists of one layer of natural rubber, which is designed to provide additional elasticity to any mattress used beneath. 28 COCO-MAT COCO-MAT 29 Technical specifications Technical specifications interior natural rubber coco fibre Pythagoras √ √ Pyrros √ √ Eas √ √ Atlas √ √ Nefeli √ √ Afroditi √ Iraklis √ Kyveli √ Bed box horse hair cover sea weed goose down wood ergo base* customisable dimensions wool cotton √ √ 200 x 90 200 x 160 200 x 180 √ √ √ √ 200 x 90 200 x 160 200 x 180 √ √ √ 200 x 90 200 x 160 200 x 180 removable cover height warranty elasticity comments √ +/- 32 cm 20 years* low-high For all body types. Just like a mattress, a good pillow must support the head and the neck in such a way as to ensure that their natural positions are not altered. When we lie on our back, the pillow must support our head and neck and keep them in the same place and position as they have when we are standing up. This means that a pillow has to be fully customizable in order to cover the different ‘gaps’ created by different sleeping positions but also the differences that exist between people’s body types. The distance between the neck and the shoulder typically varies between 2,5 and 5 cm. Consequently, one pillow can’t suit us all. At the same time, when sleeping on our side, the same pillow has to fill the gap between our neck and our shoulder, which is greater than the one between our neck and the bed when we sleep on our back. COCO-MAT’s pillows are different: they are separated into different compartments thereby preventing the material from moving and they carry zippers which allow you to remove some of the filling thereby adjusting the pillow to your specific body type. 32 COCO-MAT COCO-MAT 33 Sithon I Sithon II Sithon III Sithon IV Sithon V Sithon VI Sithon VII Narkissos I Sithon Kids Narkissos II Narkissos Kids Sithon IV 6 √ √ √ √ 50 x 70 cm For all body types √ 6 √ √ √ √ 50 x 70 cm For all body types √ 4 √ √ √ 50 x 70 cm For people with narrow shoulders. i.e. women √ √ √ 50 x 70 cm For all body types √ lavender removable cover Sithon III cotton √ wool Sithon II adjustable filling √ compartments Sithon I size goose down Pillows natural rubber Technical specifications √ 6 √ comments Sithon VI √ √ √ √ 50 x 70 cm For all body types, ideal for people who need a second pillow Sithon VII √ √ √ √ 50 x 70 cm For all body types, ideal for people with narrow shoulders √ 50 x 70 cm For people with broad shoulders. i.e. men √ 50 x 70 cm For all body types √ 30 x 70 cm Ideal for kids Narkissos I √ Narkissos II √ Narkissos kids √ 34 COCO-MAT √ COCO-MAT 35 To complete the COCO-MAT feel in your bed room, choose amongst a wide variety of bed linen collections, duvets, blankets and throws, towels and bathrobes, mosquito nets and curtains.
