Apex™ Hot Start Taq
Apex Hot Start DNA Polymerase is a modified version of
Apex Taq DNA polymerase in which a chemical moiety
is attached to the active site, which renders the enzyme
completely inactive at room temperature during initial
reaction set up. Thus, during the first ramp of thermal
cycling, misprimed primers are not extended. Apex
Hot Start DNA Polymerase has been designed to avoid
spurious amplification and to diminish the formation
of non-specific priming events during set up. It allows
for detection of low target copy numbers and for
multiplex PCR in a single reaction tube.

BL21 Chemically Competent Cells for Expression
BL21 is the strain of choice for high-level gene
expression and production of recombinant
T1
proteins in bacterial systems. BL21 strains lack
hage
P
the lon and ompT proteases thus promoting
stability of recombinant proteins. Strains
designated as (DE3) carry a copy of the T7 RNA
polymerase under control of the IPTG inducible
lacUV5 promoter, and as a result, are ideal for
controlled expression of T7 promoter driven
constructs. Tighter control is provided by strains carrying the pLysS
plasmids encoding T7 lysozyme, a natural inhibitor of T7 RNA polymerase,
which reduces background levels of polymerase activity in uninduced
cells. Upon IPTG induction, overproduction of T7 RNA polymerase
effectively shuts down any low level inhibition by T7 lysozyme.

Apex X-Gal is a chromogenic substrate for β-galactosidase that turns
blue upon hydrolysis. It is commonly used for blue/white screening of
recombinants when using vectors that support alpha complementation
of β-galactosidase.
Apex IPTG is a β-Galactosidase inducer used also as an inducer for
the activity of the E. coli lac operon by linking and inactivating the
lac repressor gene, without being degraded by the enzyme like the
natural substrate, lactose.

ThermalSeal RTS™ Sealing Films
AeraSeal™ Adhesive Sealing Films
ThermalSeal RTS™ sealing films are made with
an optically clear polyolefin film and pressurereleased silicone adhesive. The adhesive is
non-tacky until pressed against the sealing
surface which releases it only on the sealing
areas to secure a strong seal. The area directly
over the sample wells remains non-tacky and
chemically inert.
AeraSeal films are 114µm thick
hydrophobic porous sealing films
with medical-grade adhesive for
tissue culture plates, bio-blocks, and
96-well plates where gas exchange is
necessary for cell or bacterial growth.
They allow uniform air and CO2 exchange for all wells, unlike plate lids
which favor exchange for wells near the plate edges.
