Since 1944, Grapevine has been what our co-founder called, “a mirror of the Fellowship.” We invite you to celebrate this important occasion with this special anniversary issue. In the story “Rap My Knuckles, Tickle My Funny Bone,” an oldtimer tells what he has learned from 40 years of reading Grapevine. A member’s life takes off after he agrees to be the area Grapevine chair in “Magic Carpet Ride.” And a Grapevine Rep gives her purse a workout in “Where I Go, It Goes.” Look for the updated Grapevine history timeline, an article on the Responsibility Declaration, and a tribute from a New Jersey member, called “70 Reasons I Love Grapevine.” Find these stories and many more on the A.A. Grapevine Web site. Copies of the June 2014 Grapevine may be purchased at Central Office! Sharing Experience, Strength, and Hope The A.A. Fellowship includes members who are hard of hearing or deaf, visually impaired or blind, brain injured, confined to their beds with a chronic illness, or who use wheelchairs, walkers or crutches. Members of a group or Special Needs-Accessibilities Committee may feel stymied when first faced with these outGet yours! (828) 254-8539 of-the-ordinary challenges but, in fact, there are many accommodations which can be made so that alcoholics with special needs can be active, participating members of a “regular” group. Some adjustments are simple and some are more complicated—but all are possible. Often, A.A.s will take a meeting to an A.A. member who is hospitalized, home-or housebound, allowing that person an opportunity to focus on their alcoholism along with whatever other difficulties may be going on. “I can’t tell you,” one hospitalized A.A. reported, “what a difference it made in my mental and emotional state when those six people showed up in my room carrying the message of A.A. I was so down in the dumps before; I really had sort of given up—and, to be honest, had started thinking I might as well have a drink, since I was dying anyway. But hearing the experience, strength and hope of others in the program inspired me to fight both my illnesses—the cancer and my alcoholism. I don’t know what I would have done without A.A. at that low point in my life.” —from About A.A., A Newsletter for Professionals, Spring 2014 From Our Area 51 Delegate, Homer M. We had an awesome General Service Conference and accomplished much for our Fellowship. I will share all the exciting details of the reports and Advisory Actions, Floor Actions and Additional Considerations during my Delegates Report at the Spring Assembly/ Committee Meeting on May 30, 31, and June 1 in Raleigh. Just one preview: We now have a new “Spirituality Pamphlet”...after 6 years of hard work....”Many Paths to Spirituality”...and it will be available by late summer. I will share much more about both the content and “informed group conscience” which approved this pamphlet. Much more good news in my Delegate’s Report Saturday afternoon. Our guest and Sunday morning speaker will be Michele Grinsberg, Class A Trustee from WV! She has just rotated off the Grapevine Board and has much insight on the Grapevine status. Additionally, she just rotated out as First-Vice Chair of the GSB. You will surely want to meet and talk with her...This is our opportunity to thank the Class A Trustees for their service and support! The District Express Step 12!
