District Calendar - Inver Grove Heights Community Schools
District Calendar
2013-2014
A Message from the
Superintendent
Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year! Whether
you have school-age children or simply believe in
supporting strong schools, I invite you to attend
functions listed throughout this calendar as a way to
stay connected with the future of our community.
The 2012-2013 school year was an extraordinary one
in ISD 199 that was filled with much success. The
Minnesota Department of Education named Hilltop
Elementary a Celebration School. The Washington
Post and Newsweek ranked Simley High School
among the top high schools in the country. ISD 199’s
preschool program received a 4-Star Parent Aware
rating. District staff, students and buildings received
many accolades that leave us with much promise and
excitement heading into the 2013-2014 school year.
Student service was a point of pride throughout
the school year. Pine Bend Elementary raised more
money than any school in Minnesota in the Jump
Rope for Heart. Salem Hills Elementary students
participated in the H2O for Life water walk for a
sixth straight year, educating the public about the
need for better access to clean water in developing
countries. Inver Grove Heights Middle School
students created inventions to better the community.
This is just a quick snapshot of the accomplishments
and experiences that maximize opportunities for
young learners and our diverse community. Please
visit our schools, the district website or join a
community education class to witness all of the
exciting activities that occur in our schools on a
regular basis.
We hope to see you soon!
Dr. Deirdre A. Wells, Superintendent
About the District Calendar
The district calendar includes information about school events, sports, non-school days and more.
The most recent information available was used for this publication. Because times and dates may change, please
check the district website for the most current information. For Simley athletic schedules, please visit the Classic
Suburban Conference website at www.classicsuburban.org.
Transportation
Transportation safety guidelines are established to help ensure the safest ride possible for each passenger who
rides a school bus. Riding the bus is a privilege, and Safe-Way Bus Company is mainly responsible for transporting
students in grades K-12 to and from school. District 199 buses are used primarily to transport special education
students. We also provide the majority of the transportation for athletic trips, special programs and Community
Education trips.
Bus information will be printed in the 199 Reporter, delivered to homes in August. It will also be available on
the district website. Questions about bus schedules should be directed to Safe-Way Bus Company, 651-4511375. Questions regarding transportation of special education students should be directed to District 199’s
Transportation Office, 651-306-7095.
Calendar Key
*Red numbers in the lower left-hand corner of each day are elementary cycle days.
The Minnesota Department of Education named Hilltop Elementary
School a Celebration School.
Simley High School is nationally ranked among America’s best high
schools by the Washington Post and Newsweek.
ISD 199 has been named an ENERGY STAR Leader for increasing energy
efficiency and lowering energy costs district-wide.
