CLASSIC MOULDINGS INC. brackets sconces chair rails casings overdoors bracket/corbel/console: a projection from the face of a wall, especially one used to support a cornice or other architectural element. brackets The decorated ends of beams are probably the original models for the console. Early examples of this element can be found in the architecture of Indian, Chinese and Assyrian origins. The Sshaped double volute, with a large and a small spiral, is the standard form. When it is used as a balcony support, or as a modillion supporting the corona of a cornice, it is recumbent; when supporting the cornices of windows and doors, its attitude is erect. Volute consoles are found only sporadically in the Greek style, and it was really the Romans who were the first to make extensive use of this form. support the upper projection of the cornice, in addition to being found in the corners of doors between the jamb and the lintel. During the Romanesque period (11th-13th century), coarse copies of Greek and Roman examples were adopted, along with newly invented styles more in keeping with the heavily arched and ornamented architecture of the time. It is at this point that we find the modillion, an ornamental block or horizontal bracket that was used to Classic Mouldings’ collection of corbels range from regulation Roman right through to minimalist, making stops at Rococo, Empire and the Belle Époque on the way. Our corbels may be used in a classical manner, or placed in unorthodox positions to striking effect. The Renaissance reworked the Doric, Ionic and Corinthian capitals for their own use; the Baroque added the triglyph as a viable motif. The Rococo corbel sported shell shapes and unsymmetrical scrolls. Contemporary designs have essentially not added anything new to the corbel except for the idea that it can be used for simple display, and not just for the ornamental support of architectural members. i n s t a l l at i o n i n f o r m at i o n Corbels / Brackets Corbels should be applied to wall and ceiling surfaces using Durabond 90™, or an equivalent plaster glue. Corbels may be pre-drilled in order to sink a screw into the piece. This secures it to the wall during the drying period. The screw head may then be covered neatly with additional plaster compound. Corbels will not structurally support weight-bearing loads, including shelving. When the corbel is being poured, a metal “L” bracket may be added by special order. This will provide support for shelving. Brackets supporting glass should be filled and finished on top. This is a special order. 86 CONTEMPORARY BRACKET 39 1/4"h x 12 1/4"w x 20”p 87 PLAIN CONTEMPORARY BRACKET 88 20 1/4"h x 12 1/2"w x 12 1/4"p 90s BRACKET 6 1/8"h x 6 1/8"w x 1 1/2"p BRACKET WITH SIDE FLOWER 17"h x 20 3/4"w x 13"p 90 BRACKET 10 1/2"h x 11"w x 4 1/2"p Brackets 3 91 BRACKET WITH ACANTHUS LEAF AND RECESSED PANEL 16 1/2"h x 5 1/4"w x 15 1/4"p 92 BRACKET WITH ACANTHUS LEAVES , 93 VOLUTES , GARLAND , QUATREFOIL BRACKET WITH ACANTHUS LEAF 17 1/2"h x 9 1/4"w x 6 1/4"p 19"h x 9"w x 11"p 94 BRACKET WITH ACANTHUS LEAF 15"h x 4 3/4"w x 2 3/4"p 4 Brackets 95 BACCHUS BRACKET WITH ROSETTE INSIDE VOLUTE 22"h x 10 1/8"w x 10 1/4"p 96 GRYPHON BRACKET 18 1/4"h x 9 1/2"w x 8 5/8"p 97 HEAVILY SCULPTED BRACKET 98 17 3/8"h x 9 1/8"w x 11 5/8"p 99 PLAIN BRACKET 13"h x 6 3/4"w x 4"p PLAIN BRACKET 12"h x 12 1/4"w x 8 1/4"p 100 BRACKET WITH ACANTHUS LEAF ON TEXTURED BACKGROUND 9 1/4"h x 6"w x 5 3/4"p Brackets 5 101 BRACKET, DOUBLE TIERED , WITH ACANTHUS LEAF 14"h x 7"w x 3 3/4"p 102 BRACKET WITH ACANTHUS LEAF AND SCROLL 103 12"h x 8 1/4"w x 8 1/2"p 104 BRACKET WITH CHERUB 13"h x 11 1/2"w x 17 3/4"p 6 Brackets BRACKET WITH ACANTHUS LEAF AND PEARL 18"h x 15"w x 7 1/4"p 105 BRACKET WITH ACANTHUS LEAF 10 1/4"h x 9 1/2"w x 5 3/4"p 106 BRACKET WITH ACANTHUS LEAF 12 3/4"h x 6 1/2"w x 10"p 108 BRACKET WITH AESTHETIC PERIOD FLOWER 110 15 1/4"h x 4 1/2"w x 12 3/4"p BRACKET WITH ACANTHUS LEAF AND SCROLL WITH SIDE ROSETTE IN VOLUTE 10 1/2"h x 9 1/4"w x 7 1/2"p 112 BRACKET WITH ACANTHUS LEAF AND SIDE ROSETTE IN VOLUTE 114 BRACKET WITH ACANTHUS LEAF 9"h x 7 1/4"w x 6 1/4"p 13"h x 6"w x 5 1/4"p Brackets 7 116 120 BRACKET WITH STYLIZED ACANTHUS 118 BRACKET WITH WREATH AND SIDE RIBBON , LEAF AND ORNAMENTED SCROLL EMPIRE STYLE 10"h x 5 1/4"w x 8 1/2"p 13 1/4"h x 5 1/4"w x 4 1/4"p BRACKET WITH ACANTHUS LEAF 122 9 1/2"h x 5"w x 4 1/4"p BRACKET WITH ACANTHUS LEAF AND SIDE ROSETTE WITHIN VOLUTE 8 3/4"h x 5 1/2"w x 3 1/2"p 123 CHERUB BRACKET, RIGHT AND LEFT 21 1/2"h x 18 3/4"w x 9 1/4"p 8 Brackets 124 BRACKET WITH ACANTHUS LEAF 5 3/4"h x 3 1/4"w x 2 3/4"p 125 BRACKET WITH ACANTHUS LEAF 126 3 3/4"h x 3 1/4"w x 2"p 128 BRACKET WITH ACANTHUS LEAF, BRACKET WITH ACANTHUS LEAF 12 1/2"h x 5"w x 5 3/8"p 129s CONTEMPORARY FLUTED BRACKET 17 1/4"h x 10 1/8"w x 7"p EGG AND FLOWER 12 1/2"h x 10 1/2"w x 6 1/4"p 129 CONTEMPORARY FLUTED BRACKET 17 1/4"h x 13"w x 7"p 130 BRACKET WITH FLUTES AND ANTHEMION, EMPIRE STYLE 13 1/2"h x 5 1/4"w x 4 1/4"p Brackets 9 132 BRACKET WITH TRUNCATED FLUTES 133 FLUTED BRACKET 6"h x 6 1/4"w x 6"p AND RECESSED PANEL 15 1/4"h x 7"w x 7 1/8"p 137 PLAIN CONTEMPORARY BRACKET 138 9 1/4"h x 9 1/2"w x 9 1/4"p 139 CONTEMPORARY SCROLLED BRACKET 17 3/4"h x 10 1/8"w x 10 1/2"p 10 Brackets CONTEMPORARY FLUTED BRACKET 10 1/2"h x 10 1/2"w x 10 1/2"p 140 CONTEMPORARY BRACKET 16"h x 21 1/2"w x 8 1/2"p sconce: an ornamental wall bracket for holding a candle or other light. 915 GOTHIC WALL SCONCE 927 14"h x 16"w x 5"p 932 GOTHIC WALL SCONCE 930 11"h x 12 1/4"w x 4 1/2"p PLAIN WALL SCONCE 7 3/4"h x 17 1/2"w x 7 1/2"p GOTHIC WALL SCONCE 15"h x 12"w x 5 1/2"p 934 945 CONICAL, LEAVED WALL WALL SCONCE SCONCE OR BRACKET 7 1/2"h x 15"w x 8 1/2"p 20 1/2"h x 15"w x 11"p CONICAL, FLUTED WALL SCONCE 12"h x 6 3/4"w x 4 1/4"p 12 936 SCALLOP AND SCROLL Sconces 947 SHELL SHAPED WALL SCONCE 11"h x 18 1/2"w x 10"p 948 LAUREL LEAF WALL SCONCE 8"h x 17 1/2"w x 8 1/2"p casings: a framework, as about a door or window. casings Casings may be architectural (unfigured), reeded, or may have motifs such as the guilloche, lamb’s tongue, egg and dart, or pearls. An overdoor may be as simple as an architectural cornice with a return to the wall, or be elaborated into a broken pediment framing an urn. It may be used in conjunction with pilasters or brackets, and may be constructed to accommodate a figured frieze, a transom light or a painting. An overdoor sits on top of the door casing like an elegant crown. 801 OVERDOOR PANEL SET: CENTRAL WREATH WITH FLUTED CURVED AND RECTANGULAR PANELS 4 1/4"h x 37 1/4"w x 1"p 811 OVERDOOR WITH DOVES 12"h x 44"w x 2 1/2"p 913 SCROLLED LEAF OVERDOOR 6 1/2"h x 23 3/4"w x 1"p 931 ACANTHUS LEAF OVERDOOR 7 3/4"h x 4"p x custom widths 933 FLUTED OVERDOOR 9 3/4"h x 3"p x custom widths 940 OVERDOOR WITH EGG AND DART, GREEK KEY, CAMEO , ROSES . The top of the column plinth became a chair rail by the early 1600s, and was used to cap the paneling that made up the dado — with the dado itself meant to represent the body of the plinth. 341 FLUTED CHAIR RAIL 4 3/4"w x 7/8"p 344 PLAIN CHAIR RAIL 6"w x 1 1/2"p 384 CHAIR RAIL WITH FLORAL CAMEO 4"w x 3/4"p 386 CHAIR RAIL WITH LAMB’S TONGUE, BEAD AND BARREL, EGG AND DART 5 1/2"w x 2"p 387 CHAIR RAIL WITH EGG AND DART 3 3/4"w x 1 1/4"p 388 CHAIR RAIL WITH LAMB’S TONGUE 3 1/2"w x 2"p 22 Chair Rails 389 CHAIR RAIL WITH LAMB ’ S TONGUE 2 1/2"w x 1 1/4"p 390 CHAIR RAIL 4"w x 1"p 458 VITRUVIAN SCROLL CHAIR RAIL 3"w x 1 1/4"p 467 FLUTED CHAIR RAIL WITH LAMB ’ S TONGUE 4 1/2"w x 1"p 488 GUILLOCHE CHAIR RAIL 3 1/4"w x 7/8"p 489 GUILLOCHE CHAIR RAIL 4 1/2"w x 1 1/4"p 495 FLUTED CHAIR RAIL 3 1/2"w x 3/4"p 529 DOUBLE - CROSSED RIBBON CHAIR RAIL 2 3/4"w x 1 1/4"p 542 PLAIN CHAIR RAIL 3"w x 1"p 543 PLAIN CHAIR RAIL 3 1/2"w x 1"p Chair Rails 23 544 CHAIR RAIL 5 1/4"w x 1 1/2"p 545 PLAIN CHAIR RAIL 4"w x 1"p 570 PLAIN CHAIR RAIL 4"w x 1"p 571 PLAIN CHAIR RAIL 4"w x 1"p 572 PLAIN CHAIR RAIL 3"w x 5/8"p 581 CHAIR RAIL 4 1/2"w x 1 1/2"p 583 CHAIR RAIL WITH LAMB ’ S TONGUE 5 1/4"w x 1 1/2"p 587 CHAIR RAIL 3 3/8"w x 3 3/8"p 683 CHAIR RAIL 2 3/4"w x 1 1/4"p 1200 CHAIR RAIL WITH LAMB ’ S TONGUE AND PEARL 2"w x 1/2"p 24 Chair Rails CLASSIC MOULDINGS INC.
