Feline swears off the drink… again!
You heard it from me - I’m never drinking again. It was just supposed to be a
chilled out dinner with three of my best friends, but after three bottles of wine
someone suggested going out for ‘a couple of drinks’. This turned into two
more bottles; a hundred vodkas followed by a bottle of Absolut to take to the
afterparty. I (allegedly) got to the point where I kept repeating myself with the
same question: “Has anyone seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre?” combined with
knocking my drink over the cream carpet each time I reached for it. Anti-social
behaviour I know, but at this point my hand eye co-ordination was lagging
and I obviously had temporary senile dementia. The last thing I remember
before passing out fully clothed was seeing triple. The next day I had to cancel
everything, the most I could do was keep my head in a sick bucket for eight
hours - classy! That was followed by an unbelievable hangover that lasted for
three days. Not big, not clever, not doing it again – ever.
Ever thought Ibiza is a wicked place to holiday but there’s not enough R&B, hip
hop & bashment? Well, not this year. Urban giants Smoove will be hosting
Room 2 at Eden every Wednesday from June 23 to September 8. DJs
Rampage, Nikki, Dodge, Stylez, MVP Squad and myself will be on rotation
throughout summer. (I’ll be there July 7th and August 18th) For info contact:
mhunter@ministryofsound.com or check out www.smoove.co.uk
Also this summer; Twice As Nice and R&B Heaven have teamed up to give you
Urban Experience in Ibiza, a package deal where flights, accommodation and
four nights of urban fun are included in the price. Essential Grooves On
Mondays @ Es Paradis, Twice As Nice on Thursdays @ Es Paradis, Sexy &
Stylish on Wednesdays @ El Divino and Urban Flava’s on Saturday @ Eden.
DJs include Shortee Blitz, Steve Sutherland, Da Firin Squad, Artful Dodger,
Matt ‘Jam’ Lamont, Dodge, 279, Kat & myself. Every urban taste will be

catered for – R&B, hip hop, old skool, club classics, swing, funky house, UKG,
jungle, drum and bass and reggae. Music styles vary from club to club and
there are warm up parties in the day to get you started. If you attend all the parties from beginning to end you’ll be raving for a whopping 80 hours, and most
certainly need another holiday to recover! For more info contact Twice As
Nice 0207 263 9199 or www.twiceasnice.co.uk. (If you mention Urban
Experience or Twice As Nice when booking you get a 40% discount, subject
to availability and status.)
On April 28 six hopefuls made it through to the Prince’s Trust Unsigned competition held at Cargo in London. The talented six acts were selected from
400 original entrants after knock out phases earlier this year. Standards were
high, and the prize of performing alongside heavyweights like Jay-Z, Dizzy
Rascal, Alicia Keys and Jamelia at the biggest ever UK Urban Music Festival
ensured competition was fierce. After an amazing performance from Ayak
there was only one winner in my mind. The 21 year old, 6ft tall, diva from
Peckham - south London, gave a hyper performance sending the crowd into
a frenzy. This girl can sing, rap, beat box, bruk out and she sounds as brilliant
live as she does on the CD I’ve been rinsing on Choice FM for the last few
months. As I predicted she did win and made a drunken, emotional speech in
true diva fashion. I’ll be following her around with the run up to the Urban
Music Festival so check out my page next month for a full report.
Another sexy, young London talent is Jody Lei. At the age of 18 she’s already
travelled half the world working with top producers and her next single Just The
Music is released on June 7 on Independiente. My fave mix is the Coolie dance
mix – a bashment riddim that Smujji and Vybez Cartel have worked on too.
‘Til next time,
Emma X
