Welcome to Budapest
It is a pleasure to welcome all the Masters athletes of the world
to come to Budapest, Hungary to participate in the WMA Indoor
Championships in 2014.
Budapest is a City full of history, and the capitol of a country that
has a strong and proud history in the sport of athletics. Hungarian
athletes have brought much honour to their country through
victorious achievements at Olympic, World and other prestigious
athletic competitions over the years Now it will be the turn of the
Masters athletes to take the stage and show the people of Hungary
exciting competition, outstanding achievements and the friendship
and harmony that is World Masters Athletics.
The excellent facilities that are available within a confined
area should ensure good competitions. Rarely do we have the
opportunity to have adjoining indoor facilities and excellent warm
up facilities nearby, as well as outdoor courses for the non-stadia
events within walking distance. With all facilities in such a compact
area athletes and their supporters will be able to see all of the
events and enjoy the exciting atmosphere of the championships.
The Hungarian Athletics Federation, supported by the City of
Budapest have a proven history of successfully organising and
presenting major athletics events. WMA is proud to be associated
with their efforts in 2014 and believe Budapest will set new
standards for Masters Indoor Championships. WMA conveys to
the organisers and administrators of the championships our best
wishes.
To all the athletes who come to Budapest and participate in the
2014 Indoors competition, we are sure you will enjoy the spirit of
the competition, and the opportunity of making new friendships
with your fellow athletes. Additionally, both Budapest and Hungary
offer great holidaying options. Why not stay a while and enjoy the
history and culture of this region of the world.
Good luck with your training and preparation – we hope to see
you in Budapest, 2014!

Ladies and Gentleman!
Dear Guests!
Dr. István Simicskó
Minister of State for Sport
It is our great pleasure, that Hungary is hosting another great
international sports event. This time, the representatives of the
queen of sports, the track and field athletes will come, and visit us.
It is extremely important for our country to organize and
host as many international sports event as possible. Besides
the traditional events, it is essential to bring here events for the
elder generations, too.
It is important for us to host the World Masters of Athletics
Championships Indoor, not because of the fact, that it is a part of a
long process, but Hungary has already hosted several international
track and field events, too.
We believe, that track and field is an essential part of all of the
sports, moreover, we might say, track and field is the base all of
other sports. Athletics is an excellent free time activity, so it can and
will promote perfectly the healthy lifestyle.
It is very important to the Hungarian Government, to the
department of sport, and to the federations to organize as many
sports events to Hungary, as they can. For us, who are working for
the success of the Hungarian athletes, it is always a great honor,
if our athletes can have the possibility to compete in Hungary, and
they can show their talent in front of their nation. Not to mention
that, this is also important to the Hungarian people, because they
can watch quality sports events in their own country. We hope
those foreign sport fans - who will come, and visit us - will also get
to know our great country, our beautiful cities, our diverse culture,
and our famous gastronomy. We believe that the World Masters of
Athletics Championships Indoor will be excellent propaganda for
the sport, and for Hungary, too.
We are looking forward to welcome all of the athletes, the
coaches, the sport representatives, and the fans in Budapest. We
hope this event in March 2014 will be amazing and unforgettable
experience for everyone.
István Simicskó pHd.

Welcome to the 2014 WMA
Championships, indoors Budapest
Márton Gyulai
Chairman, LOC

On behalf of the Local Organising Committee of Budapest 2014,
I would like to invite you to the capital of Hungary to participate in
a historic edition of the WMA Championships indoors.
As a founding member of the International Association of Athletics
Federations in 1912, Hungary has always been proud of the queen
of sports – as we call athletics – and the heritage it means to our
small nation. Athletics in Hungary is not only a sport where you run,
jump or throw and to be exact, walk. It is not only a set of different
disciplines which may be indoors or outdoors, may be timed or
measured or may be individual or in a team. Athletics is more than
a routine of training exercises which result in a competition; it is more
than an occasion where one can showcase how the preparations
went leading up to the big day. In Hungary, for us, athletics is all of
the above and much more.
Having hosted every single championship format European
Athletics has to offer in the past thirty years alone, we are proud to
say that athletics is at home in Hungary. And when we say athletics,
it means from the youngest of age groups on the international
scene, to the most senior level of competition. Athletics is life for us,
the opportunity to speak the same language as millions of people
around the world, to make friends whom we may never see again,
and to shape fond memories for those who visit the hosts and for
those who welcome the guests.
On the occasion of the 2014 World Masters Championships
indoors Budapest, I look forward to welcoming you to a setting of
masters’ athletics that you are yet to encounter, where two tracks
serve the needs of the athletes under the same roof and allow for
the international athletics community to be together as one family.
A setting where all outdoor competition venues are less than a 1km
away from the indoor hall in a green environment, yet easily reachable
from anywhere in the world.
I trust that your preparations during the upcoming months and
the offers we have for you will enable for a wonderful week at the end
of March in the heart of Europe, and besides enjoying a few hours on
the tracks or out in the fields, you will also have time to enjoy life and
visit Budapest to take home even more memories than you could
have thought of.
On behalf of the Local Organising Committee, I look forward to
welcoming you to Budapest!
Márton Gyulai
Chairman, LOC
Welcome to the City of Budapest!
The City of Budapest warmly welcomes you

In fact, Hungary played host to no less
than 13 European- or World Championships
in athletics during the past three decades and
intends to maintain this outstanding record for
the future. Furthermore, besides Hungary, only
Germany has hosted all the major European
Championships to date, as awarded by
European Athletics.
As a consequence we have all that is
required to provide for this unforgettable event:
highly appreciated experience in organizing
international competitions, excellent venues
within walking distance of each other all in
beautiful natural environment.
Budapest is the capital, and also the largest
city of Hungary. It is the country’s political, cultural,
commercial, industrial and transportation centre
with almost 2 million inhabitants.
Easy to arrive:
• by plane: to Budapest Ferenc Liszt Inter
national Airport (BUD)
• by car: Budapest is reachable by highways
from the north, the south, the east and
the west and has direct connections with
capitals such as Vienna (AUT), Bratislava
(SVK), Prague (CZE), Ljubljana (SLO) and
Zagreb (CRO).
•
by railway: there are three main railwaystations in Budapest – Keleti (eastbound),
Nyugati (westbound) and Déli (southbound)
– operating both domestic and international
rail services.
