Northern Exposure Slated for May 3rd
As the 2016 regular session moves past the half way point, our elected
officials are deliberating on everything from reducing TOPS to establishing
minimum wage and protecting water resources. Once the regular session
concludes on June 6th, Governor Edwards is expected to call legislators back
into a special session complete their work on balancing next year’s budget.
With the importance of all those issues, how do we keep our issues in front of
legislators, many of whom have never traveled to North Louisiana? The
answer is to take a big group for North Louisiana to Baton Rouge to listen to
and meet with legislators from across the state.

What Ever Happened To Service?
Customer service consistently gets poor marks from shoppers at major retailers and restaurants, according to a study released by WSL
Strategic Retail, a consulting firm. Only 66 percent of retail customers were satisfied with their shopping experience….
Among the top complaints are rude staffs, dirty stores, long checkout lines and employees who aren't familiar with merchandise. Few of
the major retailers are finding success in these areas, the study says.
In other words… customer service is falling by the wayside.
FACT: 68% of customers who stop doing business with a company do so because of perceived indifference.
FACT: Customers who encounter poor service tell an average of 11 other people about their bad experience.
FACT: Courting new business can cost up to five times more than strengthening relationships with current clients.
On (Day), (Date) at the (Location), (You’re Name) association and (Your Sponsors) will present "A Passion for Service"®.
This workshop will help your business go to the next level of service excellence and create lifetime loyal customers. It has received rave

Less than One Month left to Apply for SBA Disaster Loans
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Director Tanya N. Garfield of the U.S. Small Business Administration's (SBA)
Disaster Field Operations Center - West reminded small, nonfarm businesses in 20 Louisiana parishes and
neighboring Arkansas counties of the May 16, 2016, deadline to apply for an SBA federal disaster loan for
economic injury. These low-interest loans are to offset economic losses because of reduced revenues
caused by the drought in the following primary counties that began Sept. 8, 2015.
Primary Louisiana parishes: Bienville, Caldwell, Claiborne, Jackson, Lincoln, Morehouse, Ouachita,
Richland, Union and Webster;
Neighboring Louisiana parishes: Bossier, Catahoula, East Carroll, Franklin, La Salle, Madison,
Natchitoches, Red River, West Carroll and Winn;
Neighboring Arkansas counties: Ashley, Chicot, Columbia, Lafayette and Union.
According to Garfield, small nonfarm businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses
engaged in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations of any size may apply for Economic
Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) of up to $2 million to help meet working capital needs caused by the
disaster. "EIDLs may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable and other bills that cannot be
paid because of the disaster's impact," said Garfield.
"SBA eligibility covers both the economic impacts on businesses dependent on farmers and ranchers that
have suffered agricultural production losses caused by the disaster and businesses directly impacted by the
disaster. EIDL assistance is available regardless of whether the applicant suffered any property damage,"
Garfield added.
The interest rate is 4 percent for businesses and 2.625 percent for private nonprofit organizations with
terms up to 30 years. Loan amounts and terms are set by SBA and are based on each applicant's financial
condition.
Businesses primarily engaged in farming or ranching are not eligible for SBA disaster assistance.
Agricultural enterprises should contact the Farm Services Agency about the U.S. Department of
Agriculture assistance made available by the Secretary's declaration. However, nurseries are eligible for
SBA disaster assistance in drought disasters.
Applicants may apply online using the Electronic Loan Application (ELA) via SBA's secure website at
https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela.
Disaster loan information and application forms are also available from SBA's Customer Service Center
by calling (800) 659-2955 or emailing disastercustomerservice@sba.gov. Individuals who are deaf or
hard-of-hearing may call (800) 877-8339. For more disaster assistance information or to download
applications, visit https://www.sba.gov/disaster. Completed applications should be mailed to U.S. Small
Business Administration, Processing and Disbursement Center, 14925 Kingsport Road, Fort Worth, TX
