CI requires attention proportional to its societal value and the potential costs of failure. © 2008 RedZone Robotics, Inc. Confidential PROBLEM: Crumbling Global Infrastructure Failures of our wastewater infrastructure threaten the environment. Critical wastewater infrastructure is very old, often dating from 1890’s to 1950’s. ASCE 2009 Report Card: D- (D=poor, F=Failing) EPA and American Society of Civil Engineers estimate US alone requires $255B to maintain service over next 5 years; $trillions globally. 5 Se we r Ma inte na nce Goa ls: • • • • • Increasing Maintenance Performance • Developing a defensible and sustainable methodology for prioritizing sewer inspections and refurbishments Identifying Critical Sewers Deferring Projects that are of low risk Fixing projects of highest risk Integrating information management processes into daily routines © 2008 RedZone Robotics, Inc. Confidential Our Objectives: • • • • • Implement a method for prioritizing inspections and remediation activities. Process identifies pipelines at greatest risk of structural and operational failure. Consideration should go beyond CCTV / condition ratings to include in-situ and environmental factors. Prioritization involves consideration of the probability and consequence of failure. Strategically focus inspection programs on areas most likely to need attention. Preventing This The Approach: • • • • • Define the factors leading to structural, operational, and hydraulic failures of sewers Develop an approach for identifying the sewers with the highest likelihood of failure Develop an approach for identifying the sewers with the highest consequence of failure Rank sewers for follow-on inspections for detailed condition assessment and remediation The method is based on a fundamental understanding of the variables that lead to failure. © 2008 RedZone Robotics, Inc.
