Hotel Del Coronado
Since its opening in 1888, the Hotel Del Coronado has been considered
one of the best luxury beachfront hotels in the world Features include
unique Victorian beach resort style
architecture and numerous pools,
spas, and rooms for visitors from
across the world. When it first
opened, wealthy vacationers stayed at
the resort for months at a time. The
Hotel Del has hosted numerous celebrities, royalty and presidents throughout the years. Many movies have been
filmed
at
the hotel,
including
The Stunt

Heaven. It
was designated as a National Historic
Landmark in 1977.
A
Boat House
Built in 1887, this was Hotel Del’s
original boat house. It was built by the
Reid Brothers as a model for the actual
Hotel del Coronado. The Boathouse was completed in 1887,
before construction on the hotel
commenced. It is
now a waterfront restaurant featuring
gourmet steak and seafood.
B
Coronado Yacht Club
Coronado Yacht Club was
founded initially in 1913, but was
short lived due to
World War I. The
second beginning
took place April
23, 1932, when
six Coronado
yachtsmen leased a wing of the Hotel
del Coronado Boat House and invited
new members to join (dues were
$10.00 a year.) Material for building
slips was obtained on credit, and soon
many of the 200 new members were
working side by side on docks and slips
for the Club. Today they have many
luxury yachts, and do weddings, receptions, and even have a junior
yachter program.
C
Coronado Golf Course
Opened in 1957, Coronado Municipal Golf Course continues to reign
as one
of the
finest
public
golf
courses in Southern California.
D
Coronado Bay Bridge
The Coronado Bay Bridge links
Coronado, CA to San Diego, CA. The
bridge was completed in 1969 and was
constructed using 20,000 tons of steel
and 94,000 cubic tons of concrete. It
cost $50 million to build. It is 11,179
feet long (2.1 miles) and has a maximum height of
200 feet above
sea level, allowing naval
boats to easily
pass underneath. It was the last toll bridge in
Southern California to discontinue tolls
(which was in 2002). The bridge has
been featured in TV shows such as
“Veronica Mars”, “Simon & Simon” and
movies including Will Ferrell’s
“Anchorman”.
E
Tidelands Park
A 22 acre park located at the foot
of the Coronado Bridge that offers
beautiful views of downtown San
Diego across the bay. The park has a
small beach, recreational fields,
picnic areas and
plenty of open
space for a variety of outdoor activities. But don’t be
fooled by the name, the actual tide
pools here on the island are on the
ocean side in front of the Hotel del
Coronado.
F
Ferry Landing Marketplace
With its panoramic city views,
you'll also discover a charming bayside
collection of
shops, art galleries, fine restaurants and
fun eateries
surrounded by
tree lined walkways, swaying palms
and sparkling ponds. The Coronado
Farmer's Market is held at the Ferry
Landing Marketplace every Tuesday.
G
Centennial Park
This park has a first class view of
downtown San Diego. The original ferryboat ticket
booth and a rose
garden are located near the
Park entrance.
At the opposite
end of Centennial Park is seating, with
views of downtown San Diego, plush
landscaping, and a bayside sidewalk,
which connects Centennial Park to
Ferry's Landing Marketplace to the
south, where you pick up the Harbor
Ferry to the San Diego Embarcadero.
There is a nice small sandy beach next to
the landing with several retail shops and
restaurants behind.

North Island
Naval Air Station
“Birth Place of
Navel Aviation" - First Sea Plane flight
ever in 1911 and first mid-air fueling in
1923. Charles Lindbergh's plane was
built in San Diego and flew from Coronado to New York on May 9, 1927.
NAS North Island resembles a small city
in its facility content and its operations.
The Baby Del
Built in 1887, the baby Del was
originally a mansion on the mainland of
San Diego, but
moved by ferry
to Coronado as a
visitor’s attraction in 1983. The
13 room, 3 story
mansion is built almost entirely of California redwood. The house was originally piped and wired for gas, sewer, and
electricity- even though these services
were not yet available in the area at the
time of construction.
J
1101 Star Park Circle
While Frank Baum, the author of
Wizard of Oz,
spent most winters
at the Hotel del
Coronado, he did
rent this home for
some winters.
