message in a eye catching and manner. Bold Graphics
and bright colors get your attention and then clever
content delivers a socially conscious message that stays
with you. Hand made soap and imperfect silk-screened
packaging utilizing eco friendly components add to a
product that gives back to the community and keeps you
from smelling bad. Sure we use the long names of the
stuff sometime but ultimately sodium chloride is just the
salt of the earth, man.

2 The Lottery:
Thinking Visually, Book Design, Illustration
Book design for the short story “The Lottery” by Shirley
Jackson. The book is set in minion pro and printed on
an offwhite mohawk #70 stock. Using the image of the
ballot slip I made a title mark for the book and crafted
the cover in the image of the ballot box from the story. It
is heavily illustrated and handbound.

3 Inky Fingers:
Thinking Visually, Poster Design, Illustration, Poster
series for the CE lectures
I choose four Eisner award winning comic artists. As
the series progressed the previous speaker was “killed
off” in their spot. The posters are reminiscent of the
old EC comic covers. I researched the manner used to
create the type for the old ec comics and made a series of
illustrations for them. Each element of the cover serves
to communicate a specific piece of information.
The issue numbers are the order and date of the lecture
and the comic company logo has morphed into a risd

4 Water Fire:
Advanced Typographics Studio, Print Design
Water Fire is symbolic of the rebirth of providence as a
city. I choose rebirth as the concept for a informational
piece design for Water Fire Providence. By proxy the
concept of renaissance drives the project. An outer shell
opens up revealing a contrast in colors and a booklet.
I choose Requiem, a redrawn renaissance type face,
for the majority of the type and Gotham for the rest. So
quite literally , a city reborn. A compositional form based
on threes run through out the structure also based on a
renaissance composition. Somserset 300lb, grey linen
and strathmore 24# sky blue laid.

Coinin Dubh is Gaelic for “Black Rabbit”. This is a
branding project for a brewery taking inspiration from
Irish folklore. The “Puca”, an Irish trickster spirit, is
used as the basis for the mark and reinforced with the
typeface Fell Type. Knot work elements and a gilded
earth tone color scheme help further the idea. Styles
of beer, including the flagship “Odd Fellow” a pale ale,
are inspired by various legends and tales. Imagery was
created by transferring hand drawings to a linoleum
block and printing them. This is meant to be a complete
system that can be applied to all manner of marketing
ephemera. If a six foot tall rabbit offer to buy you a beer,
let him, but don’t drink it. It was silk screened, stamped,
printed and drawn

6 Wet Noodle Jumbo Machinder:
Final Studios, Illustration, Branding, Package Design
Based on a giant subterranean noodle monster from my
web comic “Deth Bunny” This is a package design piece
for a “jumbo machinder” style toy. Built in the shape of
a giant cave, the package doubles as a display unit and
play set. Imagery for the package was created using
by making large scale marker drawings and scanning
and digitally coloring. Different options for the form
were explored before ultimately settling on the cave
structure. Ultimately I want to produce this a an actual
plastic collectible.

7 The Moon:
Graphic Design Overview, Poster Design
This project started life as a portrait of a place for
Graphic design overview. Utilizing the concept of
spacesuit I made a series of three d cards. Expanding
on this idea I created a travel poster for the Moon using
the concept of the cold war space race. I researched the
creation of anaglyphic 3d images, marketing trends
from the 50’s such as the character spokes person, and
typesetting techniques from that era.

8 Frankenstein:
Advanced Typographic Studio, Art Book, Laser Cutting
An anniversary piece for the 200th anniversary or
Mary Wollstonecraft Shelly’s Frankenstein,or The
Modern Prometheus. I began with the concept of
Monstrosity, both literal and metaphorical. This project
dominated my existence mirroring, ironically, Shelly’s
precautionary tale. One of the first Ideas I had was a pop
up book, but this became much more than a mere pop up
book. Using Bodoni, a type face released posthumously
in the same year as the publication of the book I
explored the possibilities of expressive typography and
random and transitional type systems. Laser cut tendrils
extend from the treated and hand stitched pages of this
wretched thing. The cover was printed with black
toner on black textured paper, creating the illusion of a
spot varnish.
