Somayajulu Banquet, Mrs.. Sandhya Godey Chairperson - Ladies Committee From the President’s Desk Dear fellow Club members, Warm greetings to all of you. As we approach the half way mark in the Club calendar year , I still feel like I have the proverbial “Miles to go “ before I can be satisfied of a job well done . In the month that just went by, we had our regular events like movie screenings, Tambola and other events. In addition member children had a treat in store in the form of the Children’s Day program which was very well attended and enjoyed by the children. The annual Car Rally was enjoyed by those who did take part. Another exciting event that was hosted by our Club was the National Bridge Tournament which culminated with the valedictory function. It was indeed a great honor for our Club to be associated with this prestigious event. I would once again like to emphasize the importance of discipline . As a member you have a right to expect a certain level of service and standard in Club functioning. That is possible only when every Club member sticks to the given code of conduct and follows guidelines. Most events call for registration before the event so as to enable the organizing Committees to plan and implement requirements as per expected people. Please note that here on, no last minute registration shall be allowed. Coming up in December is another event geared towards the children — the Christmas Eve program . I urge parents to encourage their children to take part by participating and enjoying the event . Later in December we have our last event for this calendar year, the New Year Eve program. Elaborate arrangements for entertainment and dining have been made and we look forward to your presence with family and friends to usher in the new year. Expect a surprise event in the third week. Despite repeated urging through this column, we have been hearing of several instances of the use of abusive language and unbecoming behavior while on club premises. It should be our collective effort to try and control such instances. We, the Managing Committee, would appreciate it very much if you could bring any such behavior to our notice and as members of a prestigious institution like ours, let us together uphold with pride, the tradition of gentlemanly manners and etiquette. As always, your suggestions and ideas for better governance are welcome and will be appreciated. Warm Regards A.T. OBITUARY We regret to announce the sad demise of our Life Member Sri K.Nageswara Rao (M.No.N-90) on 21st November, 2013 Diwali Eve on 02/12/2013 The weather improved and the holiday mood prevailed all over the Club on 02.12.2013. A record turnout of 2500 people for the Diwali Eve was a heartwarming sight. There were 50 stalls in the mela which were kept fully occupied. Members were dressed in their holiday festival best and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The “merry go rounds” and the horse rides were a major hit with the “Youngsters”. The delicious range of foods from street foods to the exquisite cuisine were a hit as were the traditional astrologers and “Chilaka Jyosyam”. The last India Vs Australia one day match was telecast live on the cinema screen and two games of tambola were also held to ensure every member had an event to participate in and to enjoy the evening. The best however was saved for the last – a spectacular fireworks show which kept the young and the old thoroughly occupied. The sparkle in the members smiles was the greatest reward for us at the end of a lovely event. The term conjures up for me a mad rush to form teams, anticipation of tasks, solving clues –in other words intense enjoyment. This year though it was slightly different, I was on the other side. It was a different sort of enjoyment, the forming of clues, putting things together, the dynamic team work et al. This year our brief was very clear, only tasks that could not be solved with the help of Internet, phone calls and other such consultative methods were to be used. Once we came up with the Theme- Runaway Bride- we formed the tasks keeping the theme in mind. There 7 destinations to reach after flag off and 7 tasks that were to be completed. Participation was not as good as expected since the day coincided with a couple of religious occasions as well as the traditional picnic season. Despite that, there were 26 cars in all. Club President Mr A.T.Rayudu and his entire Committee flagged off the cars on a bright Sunday morning. The teams were asked to find the missing bride. The spots to look for were at Anmol villa where each team had to form a menu from the given items within a specified budget, Vsquare where a double puzzle was to be solved, Airport where teams had spot 20 differences between two similar pictures, One town area had memory game, Pollock School, M.V.P.Colony had a maze, The Yokohoma -Pit Stop where they had to solve a word search and finally back at the Club where they had to piece together a jigsaw puzzle to put together a brides picture. The winners were decided on the basis of the speed with which they completed their tasks and not the speed with which they returned back to the starting point after completing their tasks. There were many prizes given away that day. In addition to the top three winners, one consolation prize was also given away. The team that solved each clue in the shortest time was also given a prize. Many teams came dressed based on the theme. The best theme based dress was a team of ladies who wore their bridal fineries and running shoes. Best-decorated car also had a prize. The first prize of Rs 12,000 went to V.Kiran, V.Priya and K.Shweta. The second prize of Rs 8,000 went to the team of C.Padmaja, C.Vyjayanti, R.Usha and A.Vasumathi. Third prize of Rs 4,000 went to Avdesh and his team. Mr. Shekhar of Yokohoma- The Pit Stop supported this Event. He gave each team a cap, a T- shirt and 2 gym water bottles. We truly appreciate the support and encouragement of Yokohoma company and Mr Sekhar. The Club also gave each team member of every team a water bottle, a soft drink bottle and a snack box. Over all it was an event to remember. The enthusiasm of the participants made us realize that car rally was just a drive in the park for them and not a mere race. This spirit will drive us onto better events. KEEP WATCHING. 10 KEEP ENJOYING. - Vani Kancharla Presenting ONE NITE STAND 20-12-2013 from 8.00 p.m. free for all Members, Guest Rs.300/get ready for a Rock Show on 20th December 2013 Friday Bash B angalore’s One Nite Stand is generating a buzz, not only in the city, but also around the country. They won the ‘Best New Artist’ award last year, and this year they were honoured with ‘Best Live Act’ by Hard Rock, India. One Night Stand is definitely one of India’s most promising young bands. The band consists of Behram Siganporia, 27, on vocals and bass, Hemanth Diwakaran, 26, on lead guitar, Neville Bharucha, 23, on keys, and Abhilash EK, 28, on drums. Because of the easy-to-listen aspect of their tunes, the band is a popular choice at fashion events and launches. They played at the premiere of Shahrukh Khan’s film Ra.One, IPL 6 after-parties and the Great Indian Derby 2013. You’re all from diverse musical backgrounds. Keeping up with the tradition, on 14th Nov 2013, the Waltair Club Ladies Committee stood ready against a candy coloured backdrop festooned with coloured balls and smiley face cutouts to welcome children aged 15 years and below to a fun filled evening. The infectious enthusiasm with which the kids started streaming in right from the scheduled start time of 4.30 pm was such a boost to the Ladies Committee. Vani ,Kalyani, Madhu and Parveen had their hands full registering the 163 kids who came to the event . It was such a cute sight to see pumpkins, a traditional Andhra bride,a pineapple, an army officer,a fusion fruit, a Lady GaGa, a super hero Krrish, a police officer, an angel (just 7 months old), all rubbing shoulders with each other in the registration line. There were coloring competitions, Sudoku, Four Pics One word, Word Search, Treasure Hunt, Around the world, and Tombola as games. All activities were conducted in four age groups : 0-3 yrs, 4-7 yrs, 8-11 yrs and 12-15 yrs. Harshita and Sravani took care of the kids in the age group 4-7 yrs . Madhu and Sridevi conducted games for the age group 8-11 yrs and Rajini for the 12-15 year olds. Parveen was very correctly ???in charge of the 0-3 year olds. Children’s Day This year Children’s Day was aimed at being a programme-For the children, By the Children. Going with that theme in mind, the Ladies Committee roped in Aharya Anumolu Advika Pagnis, Niket Mullagada and Aashish Chitturi (4-7 yrs) ,Zoya Hosain , Chaturya Kothapalli (8-11 yrs), Sanjana Chitra , Don Veerepalli, Devi Bapuji, Kushi Oza and Snegdha. A (all aged 12-15 yrs)to welcome the gathering, conduct the games as well as give the vote of thanks. The confidence and poise with which they did their assigned tasks and the manner in which they informed the audience interesting but relatively unknown facts about Jawaharlal would have put any professional anchor to shame. We at the Ladies Committee are very proud of these young but committed presenters and thank them for making our job so easy. They even made calling Tambola numbers, which is the task assigned to seasoned veterans of the game look so simple with their effortless ease. The Fancy dress competition was judged by our First Lady Smt Ammaji Rayudu, Mr Ravikanth Veerepalli (Committee Member in charge of Bar and General Services) and our Club member MrRana Uppalapati. The fancy Dress competition was succession of the cutest kids in their really fancy dresses. Some mothers put in a lot of time and effort in making the costumes making it a visual delight for all those in the audience. DrAparna Madhu , wife of our Clubs Hony Treasurer was gracious enough to spend her birthday with all of us at the Children’s Day Program and cut her birthday cake along with a whole bunch of kids there. The success of any Children’s event is directly proportional to the number of gifts that are given away. Proving that theory right was MrRana Upplalapati, Business Associate, Titan Industries who that evening was no less than Alexander The Great. He came, he saw and he conquered the hearts of each and every child with his magnanimous sponsoring of all the prizes and the take home gift that each and every child received at the end of the program. It was an evening to remember, cherish and experience. Those who missed it will forever regret the same. GREAT GOING LITTLE CHAMPS. WE ARE PROUD OF YOU. 11
