Task definition
On the pre-insulated flexible bonded pipe DN 50 (63/126) the following properties are to be tested:
- Thermal conductivity
- Foam density
- Ratio of open to closed-cells
- Water absorption
The tests are to be carried out in accordance with EN 15632 and EN 253.

- Pre-insulated flexible bonded pipe: DN 50, (63/126), L = 4 m
- Typ: CALPEX-Cyclopentan-PUR
- Manufacturing: 26.04.2010
- Delivery of the sample to IMA GmbH: 03.05. 2010
- Storage of the sample material before the test: Room climate

Testing procedure and results - PUR-foam investigations
3.1
Foam density
For the determination of the foam density, the test specimens were taken from the pipe, distributed
over the circumference. The density measurement was carried out according to EN 253.
- Test equipment: Electronic analytical balance (IMA 9904 286), Slide gauge Mahr (IMA 102 3011)
- Specimen dimensions: 30 mm x 30 mm x 20 mm
- Specimen number: 3 items (taken distributed over the circumference)
- Tester: Mrs. Stein

For the determination of the closed-cellularity (percentage content of closed to open cells) according
to EN 253, the test specimens were taken from the pipe assembly, distributed over the circumference.

Thermal conductivity
The determination of thermal conductivity at the pre-insulated pipe 63/126 was carried out based on
EN 253.
- Testing apparatus: Test-Equipment for measuring thermal conductivity in preinsulated pipes
according to EN 253:2009, Annex F
- Manufacturer: IMA Dresden
- Temperature measurement: 2 x 6 thermocouples
- End apparatus: calibrated endcaps; correction according to van Rinsum (x=0,8 m)
- Length of specimen: 2000 mm,
- PEX-Service pipe: D1 = 52,29 mm, D2 = 63,76 mm, s = 6,23 mm
- Thermal insulated: PUR- foam; Foam density:ρ= 56,1 kg/m³
- PE- Casing pipe: D3 = 118,45 mm, D4 = 125,70 mm; s = 3,62 mm
