School Gardening Club Our students have put their ‘green fingers where the soil is’ to create an eco-garden Alan Titmarsh would be proud of. Since February, staff and students have worked tirelessly to turn donated reclaimed and recycled materials from Laing O’Rourke, Mirfield Road Community Garden and the Hidden Gem Garden Centre, to build a great looking garden. The gardening club has successfully harvested a bumper crop of potatoes, tomatoes and cucumber, and has started to supply fruit, vegetables and herbs to the servery, enabling students and staff to enjoy that delicious ‘home grown taste’. Looking ahead, the garden aims to provide a fun outdoor experience, with the aspiration to support the academy’s curriculum through developing our students numeracy, literacy and planning skills in an intuitive – eco friendly way. Students from the academy supported Mirfield Gardens in preparing the gardens for a Neighbours day which the students also volunteered to attend and support the event. Working with local primary schools their students often attend the academy for various projects and sports events.
