How can I get a Business License?
A:
Charles City County does not require Business
License. However, the state of VA may require a
License for the type of business you wish.
What do I have to do in order to open up the type
of Business I want?
A:
Your business must be in the proper zoning area
for your proposed business.
I have a small business working from my home, would this be
okay?
A:
Yes, this is considered a home occupation and is
defined in our zoning regulations manual as an
occupation carried on by the occupant of a dwelling
as a secondary use in connection with which there is
no display other than directional signs, and no one
is employed other than members of the family
residing on the premises ( except for secretarial or
similar non-professional assistant when employed in
professional offices as listed below), such as the
preparation of food products for sale, barber shops,
beauty shops, general woodworking, crafts and similar
activities; or professional offices such as medical,
dental, legal, engineering, insurance, real estate
and architectural conducted within a dwelling by the
occupant. Such a use may be in either the principal
dwelling or an accessory structure.
