As we enter the summer months there are many
things happening in our congregation. We begin
our summer schedule with Thursday outside worship at 7:00 PM and Sunday mornings at 9:30. Our
Sunday schedule will follow the pattern of the first 2
weeks with just bulletin and the last 2 weeks of the
month with bulletin and screen.
Below you will find the schedule for our “VBS” which is really a family event celebration.
For 4 weeks we are offering events for youth and family. There are signup sheets in the narthex so we can get an idea of how many to expect and also to plan for food. Please sign up.
1) July 10th: Nerf-a-palooza:
This event is designed for the elementary and older youth. Janeen held one in the Fall and it
was well attended. We would like to have a hot dog lunch following the service on Sunday. Then, the youth will take part in various activities, including a devotional, target practice,
obstacle course, and water fight.
*Bring: nerf guns (non-disc), protective eyewear, extra bullets, and water guns.
2) July 17th: VBS and Movie Making Sunday:
This event will target both the younger elementary and older youth. The younger kids will
experience a traditional day of Bible School. The theme will be "Christian Olympics." After
the church service, the kids will go downstairs and have an opening ceremony, music, ice
cream social, games, craft and story time. The older youth can either help the younger youth
or they can take part in making a movie, perhaps based on acting out a bible story. We are
hoping to show the movie on Rally Sunday in the Fall.
3) August 14th: Day at Seabreeze
Following the service at church, families will go to Seabreeze and then
enjoy being together at the park the rest of the day. More details will be
coming.
4) August 28th: Picnic and Prayer Labyrinth at Tinker Park
This will be a family event held after the service at Tinker Park, Henrietta. We have rented a
pavilion and would like families to bring their lunch. Then, we will use the park (they have a
maze and some walking trails) to create a prayer journey. The committee also thought it
would be a good idea to combine the idea of prayer and mission. We would like to help clean
up the park at the end of the event.
Sign-up sheets will be on the Narthex table. Please sign up if you are interested, so we know
how many people to plan for. Let me know if you have any questions, suggestions or if you
would be able to help with any of these events.

Women of the ELCA
The ladies of LCOS had their kick off session on June 5th for the Operation Christmas
Child (OCC) fundraiser. We had a wonderful response with 35 boxes already taken. If you
do not wish to fill a whole box we will gladly accept donations of items that are on a list
that is on our table in the Narthex. There are large boxes under the OCC table to put your
items into. Thank you for any help you wish to give. Completed boxes may be brought to
the church at any time, please leave them on the table in the narthex. Thank you!
Another exciting year has ended. Our end of the year picnic was at the home of Ann Seppa on June 14th. Twelve women
enjoyed yummy food and as always, wonderful fellowship. Thank you to Ann for hosting. At this meeting, the ladies
planned for the upcoming 2016/2017 year of events.
We look forward to another exciting year to begin in September with our annual potluck dinner and sing-along with Alexandra
Pond, Music Director.

At our October meeting, we will be having Marlies Adams DiFante, a resident of Rochester as our guest speaker. Mrs. DiFante wrote a book titled, “The Queen of the Breman”. In this book, Mrs. DiFante shares the tragic, yet inspirational story
of how she endured seven years of her childhood trapped in Germany during World War II. This meeting will be open for
everyone. Mrs. DiFante will be bringing copies of her book for sale at this meeting for $20.
The Women of the ELCA is sponsoring the Christmas Box church wide project and I am happy to say that everyone is very
excited to be participating in this project. Daryl Jarvis is chairing this project and if anyone has any questions, please feel free
to contact Daryl.
In recognition of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation, the Upstate SYNOD Board approved all the Upstate churches to
make and donate a total of 500 blankets/quilts. Churches are asked to take a photo of their blankets so it can be included in
a collage to be displayed at the 2017 SYNOD Conference. Each church can choose where they want to donate their blankets/quilts. More details to follow.

EVANGELISM
The Evangelism Committee would like to thank everyone for donating baskets, buying raffle
tickets, and helping with the church picnic. We had a record number of baskets donated and
the picnic was well attended. A lot of fun was had by all.
Christian Book Club will meet October 6, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. The book to be determined.
Our Saviour extends congratulations and best wishes to the following members of the congregation who graduated from
high school, college or received advances degrees:
Benjamin Morningstar will graduate from Churchville-Chili High School.
Johannes Witt graduates from Gates-Chili High School and will attend UB, majoring in Bio Chemist and PharmD.
Bradley Potter: May, 2016 MS in Materials Engineering University of Dayton. Bradley attended graduate school as part of
the Edison Scholars Program. He has been employed by GE Aviation in Cincinnati since May of 2013.
Harrison Potter: January 2016 (ceremonies May, 2016). PhD in Mathematics Duke University.
Harrison is Associate Professor of Mathematics at Marietta College.
Jakob Wiesmore will be graduating from Churchville-Chili High School and attending RIT this fall to study Software Engineering. He is also looking forward to remaining active in First Robotics as a programming mentor.
Kevin Dougherty graduated from Canisius College with a Masters Degree in Sports Administration
Patrick Dougherty graduated from Monroe Community College will now attend SUNY Brockport.
Cameron Ransom graduated Gate-Chili High School will attend Fredonia State in the Fall.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Another minor flooding of the Augsburg Room occurred in early June again due to a clogged gutter and a
plugged drain. The carpet in the immediate area of the exit door is badly stained due to the repeated flooding
and does not smell very nice. We are gathering quotes to have the carpet removed and replaced with linoleum
tile. Some form of gutter protection will be installed to keep the tree debris from clogging the gutter and the exit
door will be reworked for better sealing.
New mulch has been spread in most of the planting beds, the lawn cutting
crew is doing a great job with keeping the grass cut, Mary Ellen is tending
the roses and planting beds. Flowers have been planted by the memorial
cross and church entrance, thank you Daryl and Ed Jarvis.
Rick Chapin has completed some boiler system repairs that were deferred
until summer as the system needed to be shut down to accomplish those.

VETERAN’S MEMORIAL BRICKS
Our Memorial Day Service on May 29th with the dedication of Richard Mitchell's flag and the laying of our first
five veteran bricks was very inspiring and we had a beautiful morning for it. We are now in the process of receiving requests for additional veteran engraved bricks. Our first attempt is to have bricks for
our many deceased military veterans who were members of Our Saviour, recognizing that
we also have many living veterans it would behoove us to also have engraved bricks for
them too, if they wish. We will be accepting requests from our living veterans, current and
former church members, from now until the end of September. At our Veteran Day service
in early November we will recognize and honor all the veteran engraved bricks that are laid
in our brick garden beneath the flag pole.
A NOTE FROM ED JARVIS—RED WINGS GAME
I am arranging for a group from Our Saviour to attend a Red Wings baseball game on Saturday,
Aug 13th, I reserved 30 tickets in section 219 in a safe area behind the home plate screen for this
game. The Zooperstars will be there and there will be fireworks after the game. Ticket cost is $9.50
each for all, no charge for children under 3 years. Please contact Ed Jarvis at 233-7867 if you are
interest in attending this game.
FROM THE CHUCH COUNCIL:
A recommendation from the Elders with Council approval has set our service times beginning in September at
9:00AM and 11:15AM with Sunday School from 10:15A to 11:00A. Council will meet again on August 8th to
finalize the 9:00AM service format. We are asking for any additional feedback about this service format preference, input can be done on the back of the tan sheet or by any note to the office. President Ed Jarvis is looking
for two representatives to attend a special service at St John's Lutheran Church in Penn Yan on Sunday, August
7th, they are celebrating their 175th birthday, that's a church that started in the year 1841, this was the western
frontier of New York State at that time. Pleased contact Ed if you are interest in attending.

Dear Members of Our Saviour:
“What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works?” (James 2:14)
Does one person make a difference? Let me ask you, did Christ? God so loved the world that he did something. He didn’t
select a committee. He didn’t theorize how great it would be for someone to come to our rescue. He didn’t simply grieve
over our waywardness and wring His hands in sorrow. He did something! And, in turn, the Son of God said to God the Father, “I will go.” He did something about it. And that’s why we can be saved. We don’t believe in a theory; we believe in the
person of Christ, who died and rose again that we might live and make a difference. The question is not simply, what do you
think of Christ? The question is, what have you done about what you think?
Christians respond to the grace of God by living lives of faithful service and stewardship. We respond by sharing time, talent
and treasure. We live lives of gratitude. How blessed are we as a congregation in your faithfulness.
Summertime is here! For many of us, summer offers the opportunity for some long awaited traveling, vacations of family
time.
For Our Saviour Church, summer brings a challenge of a different sort: cash flow. Because members are often away from
home and vacationing, it is common for the congregation’s offerings and envelope contributions to “dip.” Then, after summer is over, members “catch up” on their offerings in the fall. Unfortunately, many of our bills and expenses do not take the
summer off.
This underscores our need for your faithful response. Some of us need to catch up now. We are asking you to look again at
your giving and remember your church before you take that summer break.
Enclosed in this newsletter is an envelope, which can be used to mail part or all of your summer offerings to Our Saviour.
We are blessed in so many ways in our congregation. Our program, our worship, our fellowship sustain our life and encourage our faith. With faith we can see that Christ has indeed made a difference. We ask you to help us to continue to make that
difference a reality in our community.
Your gifts make it possible for the gospel to be heard and our Lord Jesus to be proclaimed. As you have faithfully responded

Monday thru Thursday 9:00 AM-12:00 PM. He
is available to meet you at church or at other
mutually arranged times. You may also contact
him or leave a message on 269-9086. On Friday
Pastor’s day off, he is available for pastoral
emergencies. When calling the church after
hours, and wishing to leave a message for Pastor Wilck, when prompted dial Extension 311
for his personal voice mail.
SUMMER WORSHIP SERVICES
Sundays and Thursdays
The Lutheran Church of Our Saviour holds worship
services during the summer on Sunday mornings at
9:30 AM and on Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM. This
schedule begins Sunday, June 26 and Thursday, June
30. It is in effect until Sunday, September 11.
During the summer, Holy Communion is celebrated, as
usual, on the second and fourth Sundays and the
Thursday evenings prior to them.
The Thursday evening services, which anticipate the coming Sundays, will
again be held outside as much as possible. This year members and friends
are asked to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets for the service.
Please mark your calendars and tell your friends… worship during the summer at Our Saviour is at 9:30 AM on Sunday mornings and 7:00 PM on
Thursday evenings.
Please inform Pastor Wilck whenever there is
an illness or hospitalization in your family. He
appreciates your help. When you are admitted
to a hospital, please list your religious preference as “Lutheran Church of Our Saviour” and
contact Pastor or the church office.
