Box #1 Ballwin, MO 63022 (314) 919-7601 Detachment Membership As of 30 November 2010 147 Meetings 3 Tuesday of Every Month 1930 – 7:30 PM rd Commandant’s Message: I hope each and everyone had a nice 235th Marine Corps Birthday. We had a good showing both the 3/24 Birthday Ball and the first annual Semper Fi Society luncheon. Through the efforts you, the membership, 60 “soon to be” Marine Recruits had their first and most memorable Marine Corps Birthday. I hope everyone had a nice enjoyable Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for. I wish to express my sincere gratitude to all the members who brought toys to the last meeting. We kicked off “Toys for Tots” in typical Pvt. George Phillips fashion. We filled up a barrel with toys and presented Sgt. Lewis checks totaling $1500 to be used for the “Toys for Tots” program. Again you the members are to be commended for your outstanding support. I also want to thank the members who have volunteered their time to assist with the collection of toys in our area. When we ask, you always come through. If you would like to assist, please contact Jim Brooks who is the Detachment Coordinator for the “Toys for Tots”. As we prepare for the upcoming holiday season, I wish to remind you that the Detachment is sponsoring an upcoming event, the annual Army-Navy game, (beat Army) to assist “Toys for Tots”. Please put the date of December 11 on your calendar. Let’s make this the biggest year ever Marines. While we have December covered for the fish fry’s at the American Legion, we still need people for January, February and March. The ladies have graciously said they would assist, but we the members need to step up and assist too. If you can work on Friday please call Mike Erxleben and give him your name. Speaking of the ladies, they are to be commended for the outstanding job with the meals at Fisher House. 3 The ladies with the assistance of several men provide a home cooked meal for the guests. We are the only organization with a regular schedule. Finally, please remember the Detachment meeting on December 21. The ladies are preparing a special “Feliz Navidad” Mexican Christmas Dinner for us; we need to show our support and appreciation for them. Our hearts should go out to them especially with the onset of colder weather. May all of us in the detachment and for that matter all the people in the World have a warm and Blessed Christmas. Senior Vice-Commandant Here is hoping all had a great Thanksgivings holiday. This month has past by quickly and we are looking at the year-end month of December to be as productive as November. Semper Fi The Fish Fries are being attended well. And thanks to all the volunteers who are assisting on those Friday evenings. The Marine Corps Ball was quite a success with fun and stories flowing throughout the evening. Bill Bragg Auxiliary News With Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas just around the corner, it’s easy to get pulled in to the hustle of the Holidays. In spite of the rush, this is my time to reflect on the year’s blessings. My year has been filled with many – too many to mention, in fact. The thing, for which I am most thankful, is that my Marine, my son Ian, was home for Thanksgiving! Though his stay was brief, it was definitely a great visit. Our Veterans Day Semi-Annual collection was a great success despite the economy. It surpassed last year’s achievement. Thanks to all who participated on those chilly days. Toys for Tots is up and running. Remember to get involved when you can. The kids need all of our help to have a merry Christmas. I am still waiting for feedback on the survey results. Please let me know your thoughts on what we need to do in the upcoming year to improve the detachment attendance, enrollment, and activities. The Auxiliary has had a great year, and we’re looking forward to what lies ahead. The stocking project is nearly complete, care packages are headed to the post office and the Christmas party details have been worked out. We always look forward to celebrating with the Marines and members of the Detachment at Christmas. Be sure to bring your appetites and some holiday cheer to share. Remember - dinner is “on us” in December. Just beware of Mike G. and his mistletoe….. (I think it’s a P.I. thing)! Hope to see all at the December meeting. Semper Fi, Carl Brown Chaplain’s Corner: We are sincerely sorry to hear that Lou Montaya’s Mother has passed away. We wish to express our condolences to his family. I hope that all of you will take time to reflect on your year of blessings…. And never forget, the greatest blessing of all – our freedom! God Bless our Marines who have dedicated themselves to that cause for 235 years. Thank you, Marines and God Bless! With Christmas fast approaching, we always think of the poor and needy. Many of our members have donated clothing, camping and other needed articles to the folks in need at the riverfront village.
