Enhancing industry image calls for strategic initiatives including our community based, school-towork initiative; targeting key demographics and focusing on available resources. When a student chooses a career as a technician, it is a rea success story for the image of the industry and for The AED Foundation. PILLAR II SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS - AED ACCREDITATION & RECOGNITION The new breed of technicians entering our industry have broad and sophisticated skill sets, both technical and academic, that meet the requirements of dealerships like 7 yours. There are now 36 AED Affiliated diesel equipment technology programs at 26 colleges nationwide. We are committed to working with these schools to assure they keep their AED Accreditation. A number of other colleges are actively working toward accreditation. E PILLAR III RECRUITMENT - DELIVERING TOOLS TO MEET THE COMING CHALLENGE An important part of our accreditation and recognition includes meeting dealer recruitment needs. One important tool is AEDWorkforce.com. Through this avenue The Foundation strives to deliver a source of qualified technician applicants with the required expertise whenever and wherever they are needed. Another facet includes providing career exploration and assistance. Through AEDCareers.com, dealers and instructors are provided with an online recruiting tool to which they can refer prospective students. PILLAR IV PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION - LEARNING TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN TIMES OF CHANGE Human capital is your most valuable resource. As our economic climate recovers, be positioned, skilled and energized to capture market share and outsell your competition. Foundation resources, give you the Your employees can learn about edge in the industry through manager excellence in the areas of certification programs. management, sales, customer service, product support, rental, financial, operations, computer skills, and health and safety. 8 STUDENTS THE SKILLS GAP A standard four-year degree can be seen as unaffordable with no guarantee of a job. A two-year technical degree can offer more opportunities but is rarely discussed. Many technical schools offer diesel programs, however without accreditation they do not meet AED dealer needs. Technical schools are struggling with high costs and time investment of getting students enrolled. Meanwhile, 3.5 million well-paying jobs are left unfilled including tens of thousands in the heavy equipment industry alone. FILLING THE GAP The AED Foundation is dedicated to developing school partnership programs based on industry-expressed needs with input from AED-affliliated dealers, manufacturers, technical colleges and volunteers. Currently there are 36 diesel/equipment AED Affiliated programs at 26 colleges. More than 500 students are graduating annually. THE “ABRIDGED” PROCESS AEDF accreditation infrastructure is focused on schools meeting industryexpressed needs & standards. Program is supported by annual 9 campaign investments. member TAKES 1-3 YEARS AVG. With the assistance of AEDF, dealers connect with technical colleges. Prior to accreditation visit and approval, AED volunteer Evaluation Team Leaders (ETLs) work with school and dealers to ensure standards are implemented properly. Schools get re-accredited every five years, assuring they are staying up to date on AED Standards. Parking/ Mileage Misc. Ground Transportation Airfare Hotel Meals TIME EXPENSES THE INVESTMENT AT WORK 1 VISIT FOR 2 ETLS COSTS APPROX. $2,400. Several ETL/staff trips may be needed over the average 1-3 year accreditation process. ETLs and staff each make one or more visits to a school before final accreditation. Technical colleges rely on the advice and experience of AED volunteers and staff. Accreditations would take longer without these visits.
