Orange Blossom Tour of the Sierra Foothills
Orange Blossom Tour of the Sierra Foothills April 17, 2010 Orange Blossom Tour of the Sierra Foothills: The Tour begins in the town of Lindsay and winds its way through green, rolling foothills and lush orange groves, where the fragrance of orange blossoms will entice you around the next bend to what might be revealed. This is a fully SAG-supported event and also provides three rest stops along the way. After your first stop in the Frasier Valley, the tour leads you through gentle rolling hills and expansive, historic ranchlands, as you approach the base of the majestic, Sierra Nevada Mountains. The Tour next guides you along the meandering Tule River to the quaint mountain town of Springville, famous for its annual Apple Festival and Rodeo. While pedaling along the Tule River, a careful eye may reward you with a view of a deer or an eagle. After a break at the Springville Park you will begin your ascent to the Blue Ridge saddle, the highest point of the tour at 2,700 feet elevation where you will be welcomed by your third rest stop and a magnificent, panoramic view! After resting here and taking in the scenery you will enjoy a long and winding descent through the beautiful Yokohl Valley, which has portions of its lower elevations set aside for a progressive, recreation-based, master planned community in the future. After departing the Yokohl Valley, there is one more climb over a hill locally known as Capsu before beginning your descent and return to Lindsay and McDermont Field House, a 172,000 square foot sports, recreation, and entertainment facility. Once at McDermont Field House, park your bike indoors and enjoy a hot shower before partaking in gourmet sandwiches and homemade ice cream provided by the locally famous, Orange Works Café. $40 per rider includes a tee shirt, snacks along the way, and a gourmet lunch with homemade ice cream by Orange Works Café at ride’s end. The Tour starts and ends at the three-acre indoor sports, recreation, and entertainment facility, McDermont Field House, located at 365 N. Sweet Brier Avenue, Lindsay CA 93247.
