Stairway to Heaven…Planned Giving 101 By: Kathy Lambert, Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek Planned Giving ... What is it? And what are the basic "tools" and "supplies" you need in order to help your organization build a planned giving "stairway to heaven"? Designed for fundraisers who are new to planned giving, this program will introduce you to terminology, building blocks and strategies that will help your organization secure some of the largest gifts it will ever receive. We hope you will join us on the ground floor as we start building that stairway to heaven! Another One Bites the Dust…10 Charitable Planning Mistakes To Avoid By: Johni Hays, The Stelter Company This session highlights specific areas of the charitable planning process where mistakes seem to happen too frequently. Mistakes aren't only made by the newcomers to the field; you'll discover that mistakes are also made by the seasoned professional. By sharing these real-life situations, Johni hopes to disperse knowledge, not from the painful school of hard knocks, but from the less painful old cliché, "learn from the mistakes of others." Stayin Alive…How To Fund Your Charitable Goals With Life Insurance By: Barbara Bombaci, Northwestern Mutual Life insurance can be used as the source of charitable giving or with a charitable giving program. Learn the ins and outs of charitable giving with life insurance. This presentation includes not only the mechanics and tax effects of charitable giving with life insurance but also some of the recently (and hotly!) discussed issues concerning insurable interest. Time Is On My Side…Gift Annuities vs. Charitable Trusts By: Greg Schmidt, Marshall & Ilsley Trust Company Working with any planned giving donor prospect takes time. You have to understand the donor's situation before you can recommend the planned giving opportunity that best meets the donor's needs and objectives. This session will develop your understanding of gift annuities and charitable trusts so you can identify which of these planned giving opportunities might be best for the donor as well as your organization. One Is The Loneliest Number…Planned Giving Program When You Are The Only One By: David Kremer, St. Camillus Foundation Planned Giving on top of all the other things I have to do? It can be done. David will offer his own one-person shop perspective and you'll leave with ideas you can start using the next day! I Heard It Through the Grapevine…Prospect Identification and Research Tactics for Small Shops By: Jennifer Fry, Northwestern University Don't think your development operation has the time, staff or budget to engage in proactive prospect identification? How can you use the resources you have to set up simple, inexpensive data mining and tracking tools - customized to your organization's prospecting needs? This session will provide a step-by-step overview of prospect research techniques and resources suitable for any organization, including strategies applicable to the unique needs of planned giving programs. We've Only Just Begun…Marketing Your Planned Giving Program By: Nancy Tawney, Florentine Opera Company and Mary Albrecht, Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design Once you are committed to establishing a planned giving program, where do you start to market it? With their combined experience, Nancy and Mary will lead this discussion on how to spread the word about planned giving. They will offer practical ideas on ways to make constituents aware of the value and benefits of planned giving and how to approach the subject. Come prepared for an interactive session.
