I started my photography hobby in 1977 with the purchase of a Minolta SLR XD11 camera and probably a 50 mm lens. I shortly added another XD11 camera body and a 200 mm lens with a 2x multiplier. I took photos mostlyof race car events - the cars and the people. I do the same today but have added birds and other nature objects to my list of subjects. Long ago I thought it was neat to be able to take double exposures with the camera. Who knew then what photography would develop into with the advent of the digital camera and software. The majority of my photos were taken on slide film as I shot thousands of slides and then dispensed with a most of them - same as today's digital - take lots - keep few. I finally switched to digital around 1999 with a HP Photo smart 315 then a Minolta DiMAGE 7, and now I have a Canon EOS 40D with a Canon 28-135 and a 80-400 Sigma lens. And I also carry a small what I call a spy (compact) camera. Joining the POCC has been one of the best things that has helped my photography. I have pushed myself to learn more about the camera and hence use it more especially with having to shoot 'assigned' subjects. I also hope by being a club member I can be inspired to be more creative. I have also met some very wonderful and talented people. Thanks, Bob Compton 4 UPCOMING GUEST SPEAKER: Roger McNicholas Roger has been a Floridian since 1961, and living Central Florida since 1980. He graduated from the University of Central Florida in 1984 with a degree in Computer Engineering and has spent his career working in the simulation and training industry. His lifelong interest in photography, led him into starting an Art Photography business in 2002 called RT Art. Leveraging his engineering background, Roger began manufacturing his own art prints and in 2004 he began offering printing and artwork scanning services to fellow artists. By 2007, the art printing business overtook the art show business and today has grown to serving over 400 artists. Roger and Trish McNicholas began RT Art in 2002. When you say our name three times quickly, you'll get the pun --- Arty Art! As our sons headed off to college, we downsized to a bungalow in downtown Orlando only blocks from Lake Eola. We quickly realized the untold story of the scenic beauty of downtown and the idea to turn a lifelong love of photography and graphic arts into a business became reality with the purchase of our first Nikon Digital SLR Camera, and a small Epson Giclée printer. Our first "art booth" was a card table at the Eola Farmer's Market. Over the years as the business grew, selling our own Art Photography in local art shows and markets, we gained first hand experience working with customers, learning what they liked and what they didn't like. Leveraging Roger's engineering background, we began making our own Giclées because we couldn't find prints with the product quality we wanted for our customers. As other artists saw the prints we were producing, they asked us to make Giclées for them too, including capturing their original works. From word of mouth, one artist at a time, we have grown the business to where we now produce thousands of Giclées a year. We understand artists. We've been there! 5 WORKSHOP NEWS: Subject: Florida Camera Club Council Luke Bhothipiti and Chris Percival Wednesday, October 10th Luke is an expert at Night time Photography… Chris is an expert at printing and framing photo’s 6 PHOTO TRIPS: Event: WINGS AND WAVES AIR SHOW We will be Going to the Wings and Waves air show at Daytona beach on the 13th or 14th of this month.
