Freecycle.org -Website for giving and getting stuff locally -A list of posts containing items that people want and items they are giving away -Items are always free, and website is free -Part of Yahoo Groups (requires you to sign up) -Format for posts, according to Boston’s freecycle group: QUICK GUIDE TO CORRECT SUBJECT LINE FORMAT: OFFER: Item description (Location) TAKEN: Item description (Location) WANTED: Item description (Location) RECEIVED:Item description (Location) Craigslist.org: -No login or signup necessary -Not highly regulated, so some “spam” may appear in listings -Buy, sell, and trade, or search for FREE items -Search for a job, or post a job listing -Search apartment listings -Discuss topics of interest in the forums SEARCH TIPS: -Start broad, then refine. For instance, if you’re looking for a leaf blower, try typing in “leaf” to start. -Make sure you are searching in the correct area by looking at the geographic area at the top of the screen and the correct category in the “in:” section to the right of the “search for:” field. -You can alter the price range- useful if you want to buy something but don’t want to spend more than $[fill in the blank]. ADVICE FOR POSTING: -Posts only last 7 days, but you can easily re-post after they expire. -It is not necessary to provide your home address or any contact information at all! All posts will be forwarded to your email address from the craigslist.org website. -Pictures are helpful, as are links to websites describing the item (such as the manufacturer’s website, or the amazon.com page for the item). -Even if you don’t think someone might want it, feel free to post it! You never know who might be interested in paying for something you’d otherwise toss in the trash.
