NEW RELEASE INFORMATION HUGO WOLF – THE COMPLETE SONGS – VOLUME 1: MÖRIKE LIEDER PART 1 SOPHIE DANEMAN, SOPRANO ANNA GREVELIUS, MEZZO-SOPRANO JAMES GILCHRIST, TENOR STEPHAN LOGES, BARITONE SHOLTO KYNOCH, PIANO CD RELEASE DATE: 16 May 2011 Stone Records is delighted to announce its first Oxford Lieder Live release, a unique collaboration with the famous Oxford Lieder Festival. Founded in 2002 by pianist Sholto Kynoch, the Festival is now the biggest of its kind in the UK and one of the major art-song events in the classical music calendar, attracting audiences and artists from around the world. This initial CD is the first in a series that will comprise the complete songs of Hugo Wolf (18601903). Remarkably, this series will be the first complete edition of Wolf Lieder, a considerable th number of which remain unrecorded. Starting in 2010, the 150 anniversary of the composer’s birth, Oxford Lieder is promoting a series of concerts encompassing every song, all of which will be recorded and released on the Stone Records label. The Mörike Lieder contain many of Wolf’s finest creations and represent a perfect marriage of poet and composer. The four singers on this first disc are internationally renowned Lieder singers and, together with the festival’s artistic director at the piano, provide world-class interpretations of these exceptional songs. They were recorded in the Holywell Music Room, Europe’s oldest purpose-built concert hall, by the multi-award-winning production team of Mark Brown and Julian Millard. In addition, the disc’s booklet features translations and detailed notes by Richard Stokes, a leading authority on the interpretation of Lieder. CRITICAL ACCLAIM “The audiences were treated to a series of outstanding and revelatory performances by all concerned. However Sholto Kynoch, who accompanied each of the singers with such empathy and consideration, deserves to be singled out for his remarkable contribution.” Roger Jones, Seen and Heard, 23 October 2010 “This recording shows what can be done with enterprise, enthusiasm, dedication, and bold artistic vision. An inspiration for all!... If tonight's performance is anything to go by, the CD will be worth getting” Doundou Tchil, Classical Iconoclast, 23 October 2010 CONTINUES OVERLEAF MEDIA CONTACT: Mark Stone at Stone Records Ltd Tel: 07595 534350 Email: info@stonerecords.co.uk NEW RELEASE INFORMATION BIOGRAPHIES Sophie Daneman is an accomplished recitalist and has appeared at many of the world's major recital venues, including the Wigmore Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, the Musikverein, Vienna, and Carnegie Hall.
