Welcome Topiary Home Decor
Welcome Topiary Home Décor Designed By: Christy Fulk August, 2013 Welcome your houseguests with this vintage-style topiary welcome banner. This would look great in any home’s entryway. Make one as a gift and another one for yourself. Colors can be customized to match your entryway’s color scheme. This would also make a great home décor class. Instructions Step 1 Brush a Pistachio Pudding ink pad across a 3/8” wooden dowel that is 12” long. Cover all but the very bottom of the dowel with ink. www.CraftProjectCentral.com Email:ContactUs@craftprojectcentral.com Artwork © Stampin’ Up! Step 1 Step 2 Stick one end of the wooden dowel into the bottom of a 4” white Styrofoam ball, until the dowel measures 10” under the ball. Put hot glue around the dowel and into the edges of the hole in the Styrofoam. Step 2A Step 2B Step 3 Cut ten 11” x 2” pieces of Very Vanilla card stock. Stamp a flower stamp from the Flower Shop stamp set six times onto each strip with Crisp Cantaloupe ink. Punch the 60 flowers out with the Pansy punch. Step 3 www.CraftProjectCentral.com Email:ContactUs@craftprojectcentral.com Artwork © Stampin’ Up! Step 4 Put the larger end of the Simply Scored stylus onto the center of one of the flowers. Push the stylus gently into the flower, folding the petals up and around the stylus. Do not push too hard, or the stylus will tear through the flower. Take the flower off of the stylus, and open it up. Repeat this step with all of the flowers. Step 4A Step 4B Step 4C Step 5 Beginning at the bottom of the Styrofoam ball, attach a flower to it by putting a straight pin into the center of the flower. Attach another flower the same way, making sure that it overlaps the first flower a little bit. Attach about two more flowers to the ball, around the dowel. Step 5A Step 5B Step 5C Step 6 Attach the rest of the flowers to the Styrofoam ball. Make sure the flowers are close so that very little of Styrofoam shows through. Step 6 www.CraftProjectCentral.com Email:ContactUs@craftprojectcentral.com Artwork © Stampin’ Up! Step 7 Lay a 1.9” x 3.8” green Styrofoam half ball so the flat side is on the table. This will keep the half ball from wobbling back and forth. Insert the bottom of the wooden dowel into the center of the half ball, and push it through. Remove the dowel. Turn the half ball over, and insert the dowel through the hole again so the flat side of the ball is on top. Step 7A Step 7B Step 7C Step 8 Get a 5” clay pot (5” diameter opening and 5” tall), and set it down. This clay pot was already the desired color. If the clay pot isn’t the desired color, paint it with acrylic paint. Step 9 Insert the topiary into the pot, and push the Styrofoam half ball into the pot as far as it will go. It’s a good tight fit, so it shouldn’t need glued in place. Step 9 www.CraftProjectCentral.com Email:ContactUs@craftprojectcentral.com Artwork © Stampin’ Up! Step 10 Put hot glue around the base of the wooden dowel and into the cracks of the Styrofoam hole. Once the glue has cooled, cover the Styrofoam with preserved Spanish moss. Step 10A Step 10B Step 11 Cut one 16” and one 20” pieces of 1-1/4” Burlap ribbon. Step 12 Put some hot glue along the top border of the pot in curvy lines for about 2”. Attach one end of the 16” piece of Burlap ribbon before the glue hardens. Repeat this step until the whole piece of ribbon is attached to the pot. Step 12A Step 12B www.CraftProjectCentral.com Email:ContactUs@craftprojectcentral.com Artwork © Stampin’ Up! Step 12C Step 13 Tie the 20” piece of Burlap ribbon into a bow. Hot glue the bow onto the Burlap ribbon where the two ribbon ends meet on the pot. Step 13 Step 14 Repeat Steps 1 through 13 to make a second topiary. Step 14 www.CraftProjectCentral.com Email:ContactUs@craftprojectcentral.com Artwork © Stampin’ Up! Step 15 Pull off a little piece of Simply Pressed Clay, and roll it into a ball. Get the flower mold from the Buttons & Blossoms Simply Pressed Clay Molds. Press the clay ball into the smallest flower in the mold. Step 15A Step 15B Step 16 Turn the mold over, and press it down against a flat, smooth surface. This will make the bottom of the flower flat and smooth. Rub off any excess clay that may be around the mold. This will help the flower come out easier. Bend the mold back as shown, and take the flower out gently. Step 16A Step 16B Step 16C Step 17 Repeat Steps 15 – 16 five more times to make a total of six flowers. Set the flowers aside, and let air-dry about 24 hours. Turn them upside down to let the bottom dry a few hours before the 24 hours is up. The flowers will still be pushy, but the design will stay intact. Step 18 Cut one 11” x 1-3/4” piece of Very Vanilla card stock. www.CraftProjectCentral.com Email:ContactUs@craftprojectcentral.com Artwork © Stampin’ Up! Step 19 Stamp the word “Welcome” with the ABC-123 Sketch Alphabet & Numbers stamp set in Island Indigo ink across the Very Vanilla strip. Make sure to leave space in-between the letters. Punch each letter out with the straight-edged pennant in the Petite Pennant Builder punch. Step 19 Step 20 Cut one 11” x 2” piece of Pistachio Pudding card stock. Step 21 Punch out seven pennants with the scallop pennant in the Petite Pennants Builder punch. Attach the letter pennants to the scalloped pennants with SNAIL adhesive. Dry emboss all seven pennants by running them through the Big Shot using the Square Lattice Impressions folder. Step 21 Step 22 Put a strip of Sticky Strip on the back of each pennant, along the top. Step 22 www.CraftProjectCentral.com Email:ContactUs@craftprojectcentral.com Artwork © Stampin’ Up! Step 23 Cut one 18” and two 15” pieces of Pistachio Pudding 3/8” Ruffle Stretch Trim. Lay the 18” piece of Pistachio Pudding trim down, with the ruffle on the bottom. Remove the red film from the Sticky Strip on the “W” pennant. Attach it to the ribbon about 2” from the left end. Turn the ribbon upside down, and get the other ribbon end on the left. Remove the red film from one of the “E” pennants, and attach it to the ribbon upside down about 2” from the ribbon end. Step 23A Step 23B Step 24 Lay the ribbon right-side up again, and line the left top corner of the “W” pennant at the 2” mark. Remove the red film from the “C” pennant, and attach it onto the ribbon, lining up the bottom point with the 9” mark. This will put the “C” in the center of the banner. Step 24 Step 25 Center the other “E” pennant and “L” pennant in-between the “W” & “C” pennants. Remove the red film, and attach them to the ribbon. Center the “O” pennant and the “M” pennant in-between the “C” & first “E” pennants. Remove the red film, and attach them to the ribbon. Step 25A Step 25B www.CraftProjectCentral.com Email:ContactUs@craftprojectcentral.com Artwork © Stampin’ Up! Step 26 Once the clay flowers are completely dry, they need to be colored. Put Crisp Cantaloupe ink onto a sponge dauber. Press the sponge dauber onto the top of one of the clay flowers, inking up the raised parts of the flower. Keep adding ink until desired look is achieved. Repeat this step again on the rest of the six flowers. Let ink dry. Step 26A Step 26B Step 27 Put a piece of Sticky Strip onto the back of all six clay flowers. Remove the red film, and attach one flower inbetween each pennant onto the ribbon. Step 27A Step 27B Step 28 Wrap a piece of Sticky Strip onto both wooden dowels underneath the flower topiary. Remove the red film. www.CraftProjectCentral.com Email:ContactUs@craftprojectcentral.com Artwork © Stampin’ Up! Step 28 Step 29 Attach the left end of the “Welcome” banner to the center front of the Sticky Strip on the left topiary, and wrap it around the dowel going to the right (counterclockwise). Step 29 Step 30 Attach the other end of the banner to the other topiary, starting from the front center of the Sticky Strip, and wrapping it around the dowel going to the left (clockwise). Step 30 www.CraftProjectCentral.com Email:ContactUs@craftprojectcentral.com Artwork © Stampin’ Up! Step 31 Attach one of the 15” pieces to the left topiary by tying it into a bow, over the left ribbon end of the banner. Attach the other 15” piece to the right topiary by tying it into a bow, over the right ribbon end of the banner. Step 31 Materials: Stampin’ Up!
