I would like to thank John Palmer for the time he has spent on the Board, all of the Board members share many tasks for the events we have, and their time is appreciated. John did not run for reelection, and Lisa Schwartz was elected to fill the vacant position. At the August Board meeting, the Board elects the club officers. The only change is Steve Schwartz, will serve the next year as VicePresident. Thanks also to Dave Rowley who had been your VP. The main job of the VP is to organize and keep track of events, and to fill in for the President should he not be at a meeting. We have some Safety School classes coming up. The first one is a special one-day class at the Snow Show. One-day classes are usually not allowed, so this one has conditions - the students must register in advance, and receive the class materials in advance so they can study them beforehand. If you know anyone looking for a class, don't miss this chance to do it in one day. The other two sets of classes are in December and January at the Menomonee Falls Community Center. While the one day class fills up quickly, we usually have room in these classes so spread the word! Don't forget to return your membership renewals - we want 100% returns, I hate to see people leave. Save money on your snowmobile trail pass this year by belonging to a club. SAFETY SCHOOL Gary Breuckman The Snobirds will again be offering snowmobile safety classes this winter. The classes are conducted by qualified instructors, from the Snobirds, who are certified by the State D.N.R.. Satisfactory completion of the class meets the D.N.R. requirements. “Any person who is at least 12 years old AND who is born on or after January 1, 1985 is required to possess a valid Snowmobile Safety Certificate in order to operate a snowmobile on public trails, lands or frozen waters. You must carry the certificate while riding and you must display it to a law enforcement officer when requested.” As this training is important to public and personal safety, a parent or guardian is welcome to attend with their student without paying a fee, unless they also wish to be certified. There is a $10 fee for registration and D.N.R. safety materials. The course consists of three evening classes with subjects of snowmobile laws, ethics, terminology, maintenance, clothing, first aid, environmental and ecology problems. We have a special one-day class held at the Milwaukee Snow Show, and then two regular 3-night sets of classes in December and January. The one-day class is on October 17th from 10am to 6pm, for information or to sign up call Scott Makowski at 262-252-3496. The 3-night class sets are on December 2, 9 and 16 and the second set on January 6, 13, and 20, all at the Menomonee Falls Community Center, W152 N8645 Margaret Rd. The classes run from 6:30 to 9:30 each night, and you must attend all three classes of the set to be certified. For information or to sign up call Gary Breuckman at 414-442-4279.
