That doesn't mean that Android tablets are made by Google. Google makes only the software. Android tablets include Samsung Galaxy, Kindle Fire and Hudl. What is a Smart phone? • A Smartphone is a mobile phone that lets you make phone calls and send text messages but can also perform some of the functions of a computer, like accessing the internet, sending and receiving emails and playing games. Most Smartphones also have touch screens. What is Social Media? • Social media is a way to communicate amongst friends, family, and colleagues online, as well as meeting people with similar interests. Social media websites (like Facebook and Twitter) are used to connect to and share information with other people. What is an App? • The term 'app' is associated with the software that runs on a smartphone or tablet device. App is short for application. Apps are usually accessed by clicking or tapping on an icon on the homescreen of your smartphone or tablet. Apps cover a whole range of different type of activities. The most popular are games, news, weather and social networks. Smartphones and tablets come ready loaded with basic apps, like a browser, calendar, email and chat software, but many more are available for free or at low cost. Family Learning Family learning is about working with the family together rather than with the child or the adult separately and can often make a greater impact on the literacies development of both child and parent or carer. Adult Learning works with parents, carers and other family members to help them develop their own literacies and gain the confidence and skills to help their children with reading, writing and numbers.
