Average this amount and cut side strips to this size. Stitch. Repeat for top/bottom borders. Why? There is stretch along outer edges of a quilt top, especially if any edges are bias. The truest measurement is through the center. Pin the strips to the outer edges, distributing fullness evenly and always use a WALKING FOOT to piece. wof-‐ is width of fabric from selvage to selvage. Use 6 1/2" x wof main print strips and 6 1/2" black solid squares for third top/bottom borders. Measuring Border Strips Side Borders Top/Bottom Borders 5. Backing. Cut (2) 84" x wof sections. Remove selvages. Stitch with a 1/2" seam allowance. Press open. Trim to 75" x 84". 6. Quilting. Layer backing, batting and top. Quilt with walking foot in diagonal lines or in an all-‐over meander. Trim all edges even with top. 7. Binding. Pinning the binding in place keeps the seam flat and prevents rippling. Sewing the binding to the back of my quilt, pressing and then turning it to the front allows me to topstitch close to the folded edge in a clean finish. Enjoy your quilt!!
