A Sad Realization I’vebeenbuyingself‐helpbookssinceDr.WayneDyerwroteYourEr‐ roneousZonesinthe1970’sandeveryonewentmadoverit. Overtheyearswhiletryingtobeatmyselfintosubmissionandfollow goodhabitsandeschewbadones,Iwassuretherewassomemagic mantraIneededtolearn. IassumedonedayI’duncoverthewisdomthatwouldallowmeto lookatthatpieceofchocolatecakewithbuttericingandjustsayno thanks. ButI’vefinallyrealized,it’sasUBChasbeentryingtotellmeallalong withitsmotto:tuumest.Itisuptoyou. Thereisnomagicotherthanyourbrainstatingtoyourselfyousim‐ plywillgotothegym,oryouwillnottouchthatthirdglassofwine. Sad,though,asI’dhopedtheremightbeaneasierwaythanthat. He’sthefriendliestdogI’veever ownedandwhenheseespeo‐ plehecrouchesdownandwags likemad.Thenhestartspid‐ dlingabitasheracestowards them. Louie’sreallyenthusiastic aboutthe9and10yearold cats,MangoandWrecks.As muchastheytrytostomach him,theyfindhisbone‐jarring pouncesannoying.
