In 2004, a team of innovative engineers and designers set themselves the challenge to
design a solar system for the mainstream. Viridian sought partners from the building industry
to help with the definition of the product and quicky realised that cost wasn’t the only thing
holding back solar from wider use. Aesthetics, durability and ease of installation were just
as important. The result of the collaboration with developers, construction companies, and
other building professionals is a product that transforms the attractiveness of this type of
renewable energy.
Launched in 2007, the Clearline range of solar panels has helped Viridian Solar become
established as a leading solar supplier in the UK, with growing exports.
The story of innovation has continued, most recently with the development of Clearline
Fusion - a cost effective solar photovoltaic roofing system, and The Pod - a radical new way
to install solar heating.

Sizing Guide
A solar PV system is normally sized based on roof space and aesthetics, but a solar thermal
system should be sized to the average hot water demand of the building, which is driven by
the average occupancy. Choose the top of the range for installations if orientation is not ideal.

Roof Integration Kits (for 20, 30 series)
Roofing kits are
available for both
tiled and slate
roofs.
Flashing kits are compatible with both V series thermal and PV series
photovoltaic solar panels and are available in specialised kits to suit tile
and slate roofs. Each flashing kit contains components to fit 20 or 30 series
panels (see page 3 for PV16 panels).
Clearline roof integrated solar panels have been tested as a roofing material
and are the only products to hold a BBA Agrément certificate. Weathertightness, external spread of flame and wind resistance have been confirmed
and all Clearline panels and flashing kits are accredited to MCS012.
Electrical or hydraulic connections can be made inside the building, leaving
all connections accessible and allowing roofing works to be completely
separated from plumbing or electrical works. Panels can be installed either
joined together or singly on the roof. Choose the look that you prefer.

Drainback systems are quick to install and simple to maintain, but must be
installed within 4.5m vertical height of the top of the solar panel and connecting
pipes must fall downhill with a slope greater than 1 in 30.
Pressurised systems can be installed in a wider range of situations but are more
involved to install and maintain.

The

pod
The biggest challenge when installing solar heating isn’t fitting the panels
on the roof, it’s the work inside the home to interface solar heating with the
existing heating system. The Pod is a game-changing new approach that
simplifies installation of solar heating and reduces disruption in the home to an
absolute minimum.

The Pod fits through a standard loft hatch and its horizontal format means
it will slide into the tightest corner. The only work inside the house is to run
pipework to feed the solar heated water to the existing heating system.
Pod PV has an immersion heater which can be powered with excess solar
electricity from a solar photovoltaic installation. It’s a superior approach
compared to using the immersion heater in an existing cylinder and Pod PV
also makes possible the implementation of solar PV water heating for homes
that have a combi-boiler.

Choose a cylinder where the volume heated by the back-up heat source
(e.g. boiler) is greater than or equal to the estimated daily hot water use

Swimming Pool Kits

temperatures mean that the solar panel is operating at high efficiency for the entire
heating season.
