Tour Code: TRY200 3 NORWAY IN A NUTSHELL One of the most popular trips in Norway Norway in a nutshell takes you through some of the most beautiful scenery in Norway`s fjords. You can experience the scenic Bergen Railway line, the breathtaking Flåm Railway line, the Aurlandsfjord, the narrow Nærøyfjord and the steep Stalheimskleiva. The Flåm Railway The journey on the Flåm Railway is regarded as one of the high points on the Norway in a nutshell round trip. The 20 – km long train journey from the mountain station of Myrdal and down to Flåm deep 4 in the fjord takes around 55 minutes. On the journey you have views of some of the most magnificent mountain scenery in Norway with an ever- changing panorama of tall mountains and thundering waterfalls. Along the Flåm Railway the train moves slowly or stops at the best views. Down at the idyllic Flåm there is time to eat and to wander around little before continuing your journey by boat. The journey goes out from Aurlandsfjord and into the Nærøyfjord, the narrowest fjord in Europe. On the journey you have views of the small traditional farms before the boats moors at Gudvangen. Now the coach journey continues the steep and spectacular hairpin bends of Stalheimskleiva to Voss. From Voss you can continue your journey by train to Bergen or Oslo. The Norway in a Nutshell round trip is available all year and can be completed in one day. You can stop off en- route if you wish to spend more time on the journey and enjoy more of what nature has to offer. See Try Gudvangen as a suggestion. The Hardangerfjord The Orchard of Norway Hardanger is a name that the Norwegians associate with blossom and fruit. A mild pleasant climate and clear, light summer nights are ideal for our guest, as well for fruit and berries. Hardanger is a mixture of cold and warm, wildness and quiet idylls, of old and traditions and modern times. High up you enter the Hardangervidda National Park and two of Norway`s largest glaciers- Hardangerjøkulen & Folgefonda with summerski centre. From mountains and glaciers the majestic waterfalls foam down into the queen of fjords where the cruises can bring you to the village communities for a diversity of experiences. We welcome you to four seasons of beauty. It became the north`s largest city. In the 13th century the Hansas – the German medieval guild of merchants opened one of their four European offices on the wharf called Bryggen. It has become a symbol of our cultural heritage and has gained a place on UNESCO`s World Heritage List. The Midnight sun and friendly people - the Lofoten Islands: the most unspoiled, stunning scenery in Norway. The Midnight Sun The world knows Norway as the Land of the Midnight Sun. Strictly speaking, only North Norway lives up to the name in a literal sense. It is only in the north that the sun truly never sets during the summer months. Tourists who visit this region during the summer will experience the Midnight Sun fully in clear weather, but even if it is cloudy, these light nights are still a completely unique experience. Nights are light during the summer in the rest of the country too, with sunset as late as 22.30 and sunrise again at 03.00. The Northern Lights During the dark winter months, North Norway has yet another remarkable phenomenon - the Northern Lights - or Aurora Borealis, ames across the heavens in varying intensity and form. They can manifest as rays arcs or curtains of colour that range from greenish white to deep red. Seeing the Northern Lights blazing across the winter night is an extraordinary and mystical experience. Northern Lights is caused by charged particles from the sun that get caught in the eld, causing air molecules and atoms to light up. During winter the Northern Lights can sometimes be seen across southern Norway as well.
