E L C O M E
Welcome to Wekiva High School, home of the Mustangs. At Wekiva, our
motto is “Prepare for Greatness,” and we are pleased to host three great
basketball teams to kick off the 2014-2015 basketball season.
Athletic excellence is one of the hallmarks of our area, and on a yearly
basis, Central Florida schools are among the state’s best in every sport,
especially men’s basketball.
We hope you will find yourself enjoying outstanding athleticism and great
contests as you are treated to a preview of the season ahead during this
week’s games. Our preseason classic provides Central Florida basketball
fans an opportunity to see outstanding basketball programs test out their
newly refined rosters over a two-day period as these talented teams begin
their journey to a hopeful Final Four run to Lakeland.
As a school in its eighth year, we are proud to be in the Metro Conference
and a part of a collection of schools, faculty, staff, students and parents that
are outstanding in so many ways.
We especially want to thank Superintendent Barbara Jenkins and Area
Superintendent John Wright for their support of our vision and efforts.
In addition, we are grateful to the coaches and administrators at all of
our participating schools that have invested in making their individual
programs and this preseason event successful!
We also are indebted to the countless supporters of Wekiva basketball that
will be making this season successful. So many people have given time,
energy and all means of support over the past eight years in helping to
build a basketball program that seeks to be a model of success on and off
the court.

The Blue Darters return five seniors: Alex Goins-Williams, C.J. Reese, Darius Diltz, Trey Hall,
and Jeremiah Beauge. Juniors Donnell Huey and
Derrick Miley along with freshman Rodney Lubin are also expected to contribute. Head Coach
Mark Griseck comes to Apopka after spending
the last seven seasons as the Olympia head coach.

SEASON PREVIEW
With the help of seven new players the Patriots
should battle for the District Championship.
John Mooney, University of Florida commit,
returns and looks to improve on his 23 points
and 12 rebounds per game. He will be helped by
newcomers Jordan Bates and Arthur Thomas.
This is one of the most athletic teams the Patriots
have ever had.

a talented rising group of underclassmen to seek
their fourth consecutive district championship.
The defensive contributions of Sid Ferrell may
frustrate many opponents this season. Rockledge
will look to multiple players to lead the team on
the offensive end.

SEASON PREVIEW
Gersino Lubin is excited, honored, and humbled
to return to Wekiva as the head coach, taking the
reins from the tremendous Scott Williams. Wekiva
is fortunate to return a starter in Malcolm Stevenson and key point guard Jayson Hughes along with
some talented young players eager to compete at
the varsity level. Despite the loss of six outstanding
seniors from last year, the Mustangs are thankful
and look forward to writing their own chapter as
they embark on this competitive season.
