Welcome to the Richmond Rapids Swim Club
Our organization offers a progressive and balanced approach to the instruction, training, and
competitive experiences of all our young swimmers. We have programs available to suit children of all
ages and abilities. Our mission is to provide a competitive swimming experience for swimmers,
enabling them to realize their personal potential in a fun and safe environment.
We have a committed coaching staff that strives to inspire great character and integrity in each of
their athletes. Our goal as a team is not only to create great athletes, but to also create outstanding
individuals. We want our athletes to succeed in all aspects of their lives: academically, athletically and
socially. Our staff goes to great lengths to stress the importance of hard work both in the pool and in
the classroom. The skills and ethics taught by the Rapids staff are ones that each athlete will be able
to carry forward for the rest of their lives. The hope is that these skills will allow them to be better
equipped to handle all the challenges that they will face both in the pool and in life.
Our program is divided between two pools in Richmond. The Minoru Aquatic Centre is where we run
the Richmond Rapids Swim School. This program handles most of the 10 and under athletes within
the Rapids program. Watermania houses our main competitive programs. This includes our young
introductory swimmers all the way up to our Senior National athletes.
The Rapids Swim School is an innovative learn-to-swim program of incredible quality. The program’s
methods teach children to swim more efficiently and in less time than traditional programs. The
Rapids Swim School is a program dedicated to teaching children to swim well in a fun, challenging
and rewarding atmosphere. Our young athletes are taught the basics of the four swimming
strokes: front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, as well as competitive swimming starts
and turns. Our swim program is fun and motivational, and allows participants to track their progress
throughout their swimming lessons with the use of skills charts and report cards.
The Age Group program of the Richmond Rapids emphasizes technique in all groups. Our coaches
implement a program that teaches balance, core development, propulsion, starts and turns. Age
Group swimmers (14 and under) are provided with critical instruction in these areas that becomes the
foundation for success at the senior level (15 and over). The Rapids promote long-term athlete
development with continuous improvement as the swimmers move through their career. This
enhances desire, motivation, and opportunity for improvement at the senior level of competition.

2015/2016 Registration Instructions
1. Read through the Registration Package carefully, as there are changes to group schedules, group
names, descriptions, PPP, etc. Your swimmer(s) group is listed on the Fee Payment Form mailed to
you in July.
2. Online Registration will only be available to returning members from July 20 to August 25, 2015.
Parents must refer to their Registration Fee Payment form during online registration for the child’s
group. New members & summer camp participants must register at on-site registration dates.
a. Registering on-line does not guarantee your spot in the group. The online system is
considered a RESERVATION. Registrations must be approved by the club registrar, and will
only be approved when full fee payments & required documents have been returned.
b. The Registrar must approve all group assignments before registration is completed. Online
registrations will be forfeited if all requirements are not met by August 28th.
c. Training fees will only be payable online by credit card after September 1.
d. Gear, such as mandatory team suits, will be available for purchase during early season on-site
registration dates.
e. All outstanding fees from the 2014-2015 season must be paid prior to or during registration.
Credit card payments for outstanding fees will be accepted during the online registration
process. Cheque payments for outstanding fees are due by August 28th.
3. Sign the Rapids Swimmer/Parent Code of Ethics form, the Parent Protocol agreement, Swim BC
Release form and Rapids Team Travel form at the end of the Registration Package. These forms can
also be electronically signed with online registration.
4. Use the Registration Fee Payment Form to provide the correct amount of registration fees. Returning
members will have received this form in the mail. New members will pick up this form after your child
has been assessed. Select Option 1 (annual cheque payment), Option 2 (monthly post-dated cheques),
Option 3 (monthly credit card payments) or Option 4 (annual credit card payments) to pay for your
swimmer(s) registration fees for the 2015-2016 season.
a. If you choose Option 1, cash is also accepted.
b. If you choose Option 2, you must provide postdated cheques according to the dates listed on
the fee payment form. Any other dates will not be accepted.
c. If you choose Option 3 or 4, you must register your credit card on our website. Monthly credit
card charges will be automatically processed on the first of each month beginning in October.
Advance fees are not required if paying registration fees by credit card.
5. Using the Fee Payment form, provide cheques for your account’s PPP requirement. PPP cheques are
required even if paying fees by credit card.
6. Using the Fee Payment form, check to see that all the names, the address, phone numbers and email
address is correct. It is very important that this information is accurate for contact in emergency
situations. You can make corrections on this form or on the website once you have logged in.
a. ALL ACCOUNTS MUST PROVIDE AN EMAIL ADDRESS. This email address will be used for
families to check their account status, receive important notifications, enter/scratch from
competitions or attend club events, etc. via the Rapids website.
7. Once the Rapids registrar receives and processes your registration, you will be sent login instructions
for the Rapids website (returning members will still have their current password). Your account is now
activated. Each family will also receive an email from SNC (Swimming Canada) after registration. To
complete the registration, sign in to your SNC account and update your family info. This step is
mandatory to be fully insured. This step will take place in September, or shortly following your
registration.

8. Log into the website and click on “My Account”. Update all the information under Billing Information,
Guardians, and Insurance/Emergency Contact tabs. Fill in all fields. Then click the “Save Account
Changes” button. The emergency contact and medical information on the club website is very
important. It could save your child’s life. Please take the time to fill it in.
9. Click on “My Account” and select your athlete. All swimmers must be registered with their Legal
name. If this is different from the name used for registration, contact Dennis Silva.
a. Click on Medical information. Include your child’s BC Care Card Number in the “Medical
Information/Notes” field. This can be easily entered while registering online.
b. Update the information required, including swim suit size. See the Gear page in this
package for details on this process. Click on “Save Changes”.
c. Repeat step 8 for each swimmer on your account.
10. Registration for current members is due by August 28th. On August 29th, space will become available to
new members. Space will be available on a first come, first served basis. Outstanding balances from
the previous season must be paid prior to registration for the current season.

Completed registrations may be dropped off or mailed to the Rapids office. On August 29th, space in
each group will be open to new members. Registration is not considered complete until all forms and
fees are provided. This includes PPP cheques and any outstanding fees from the previous season.
Swimmers can only begin swimming once their registration is complete.

Training Fees
Training fees cover pool, coaching and administrative costs for the swimmers. There is a 50% reduction in the training

fees for the 3 , 4 , 5 , etc. swimmer registered for the year from one family – this discount is calculated according to the
lowest training fees applicable to the family.
Advance Fees
The advance fees are used to cover, at least partially, costs charged to your account during the swim season (i.e., meet
fees, equipment orders, social events). Any charges above the monthly fees paid will be billed to the swimmer’s account.
Advance fees cannot be paid by credit card. They are not required if credit card payments are placed on “Account
Automatic Billing/Payments”.
Meet Fees – for AGD 2, RD 2 and higher - Every time a swimmer competes in a regional or invitational meet, the host
club charges a fee for each event that they swim. The club pays these fees on your behalf. At the completion of the swim
meet, all meet fees incurred are then charged back to each member’s account. Qualified swimmers are automatically
entered in all local meets. Swimmers not able to attend these meets are expected to scratch (notify) the Club by
phone or email before the deadline, or they will be charged meet fees.
Mini Meets and Pass Meets – Fees for mini-meets are included in the registration fees. The fee for a swimmer to
attend a Pass meet is $10.00 per meet.
Group Movements
All group movements will be made based on ability, the criteria of the group, and the best interests of the athlete.
Movements are solely the decision of the coaching staff.
Change of Training Group Mid-Season
Families will be billed for the difference in monthly training fees and Swim BC Registration fees that may occur as a result
of a swimmer’s promotion during the season.
Family Membership
All swimmers are members of the Richmond Rapids Swim Club. Each family is entitled only one vote at the Annual
General Meeting.

Swim BC Registration Fees
These are non-refundable fees collected from each swimmer and remitted to Swim Canada and Swim BC on behalf of the
swimmer. This fee also pays for your child’s insurance for the year. Please note that if your swimmer becomes LMR
qualified during the year (completes the Pass level), they will need to be upgraded for an additional fee. Families that
register three or more swimmers can receive a rebate by returning the appropriate form, available in the Swim BC
registration package.
Parent Participation Points (PPP)
A full explanation of the parent participation point system follows at the end of the registration package, with values and
job listings in the Rapids Parents Handbook. Please note that Officials and Judges need special training, and will not be
credited any PPP until they shadow at a meet.
Non-Sufficient Funds Cheque/Credit Card Fee
$25 will be charged for any NSF cheques. If two NSF payments occur during the season, a certified cheque or bank draft
will be required and the family will be required to keep their account current each month. Any credit card payments that
are declined or expired during the automatic payment/billing process on the 1st of each month will also be subject to a $25
fee charged to the account.
Communication
Information will be posted on the club website or Twitter account, passed out on paper, or posted on club notice boards at
Minoru and Watermania. Information will regularly be e-mailed to each family. Families must provide an email address
at registration. Please call/email the Rapids office or talk to your swimmer’s coach if you have any questions.
Minimum Attendance Requirement
Each swimmer must meet the minimum attendance requirements for their group in order to be eligible to attend swim
meets and maintain their present group level. See group descriptions for each group’s attendance requirements.
Payment Options
There are four options in paying the required fees: two by cheque (or cash), and two by credit card, either annual or
monthly. Please review the registration instructions on page four for a description. Annual payments, starting in
September, entitle the account to a discount of the training fee only.
The PPP cheques are not included in these 2 payment options. Please ensure that both the full name of the
swimmer(s) and group level are on each cheque. Please note that the Swim BC fee, first month training fees, and
June training fees are non-refundable.
Billing and Invoices

On the 1 of each month, every account will have an invoice created and subsequently mailed or emailed to them.
Members are able to view all transactions made to their account by logging onto the website. Members are obliged to
maintain their account in good standing with the club. Failure to do so will result in a review of the account’s membership
by the Board of Directors and Director of Swimming. Any refundable fees will be processed and refunded at the end of the
swim season or termination of membership.
WITHDRAWALS and REFUNDS FROM THE CLUB
*One month’s notice in writing must be given if a swimmer is no longer going to swim with the Club. If the notice

is received after the 1 of the month an additional month’s training fee must be paid. No refunds are given if
st
notice is received after April 1 , 2016. *
Refunds of training fees due to illness or injury will only be considered if a swimmer misses 80% or more of scheduled
practices for any given month due to the illness or injury. A letter from a physician must accompany any such request for a
refund of training fees. For withdrawal of a swimmer before the season commences, notice in writing must be received
before August 31, 2015. Swimmers absent for reasons other than medical will not receive refunds on their fees.

Official sponsor of the Richmond Rapids Swim Club
To help Richmond Rapids families find the best deal on high quality swimming equipment, the Club is starting
a sponsorship agreement with ARENA. The Arena sponsorship means Rapids swimmers will receive special
team pricing for the piece of equipment needed most: the training suit. As a part of the sponsorship agreement,
the club is required to purchase a team suit for each member once a year (except for Youth Fitness, University,
or Winter Maintenance swimmers). The training suits will be ordered as part of the registration process and will
be included in the fees paid during registration. It is the responsibility of the family to let the equipment
manager or Team Aquatic Supplies representative know what size they would like to order. Details on ordering
are at the bottom of this page.
Additionally, reduced pricing will be available for all Arena gear, including racing suits, track jackets, and
backpacks. Other benefits include backstroke flags, meet stipends, and coaching apparel for reduced staff
costs. We are pleased to be starting this sponsorship with Arena as we gear up for the 2015-2016 swim
season.
Suit Order During Registration:
A team suit sizing kit will be available during registration.

First, choose your size by using the Team Aquatic Supplies (TAS) sizing kit. Make sure to pick a size
that leaves no wrinkles in the material. Do not choose a suit that your child will “grow in to.” Oversize
suits lead to increased unnecessary drag and will wear out faster!
Report your size and style order to TAS, complete your registration payments, and receive your suit!
A suit delivery date (September 19) will be announced for pickup at the TAS store in Watermania. If you
do not pick your suit up at this time, you will need to wait until your child’s coach delivers it.
Suit Order After Registration:

The TAS store at Watermania will have a small stock of suits for immediate replacement needs. Check
there first if you require a replacement training suit, or sign up after September.
If none are available, email gear@richmondrapids.com. A suit will be ordered from Arena and will be
delivered as soon as possible.
Samples of other Arena Core Team Items may be available at the time of registration, though we will
not have stock available for immediate delivery. You will be able to place an order for core items at
registration, but will need to wait for delivery.

Rapids Gear Order Process and Pricing
HOW TO ORDER RAPIDS GEAR
1) Email gear@richmondrapids.com with swimmer’s name, training group, and order. This is how
you should order shirts, caps, and suits (after registration)
2) Place a gear order during registration or spring order event through a Rapids or Team Aquatic
Supplies representative.
3) Your swimmer’s coach will deliver all gear orders as soon as they arrive.
Please note: We encourage each swimmer to purchase at least one Arena team item by the
end of the year.

Description of Swim Groups – Minoru Pool

Swim School
RAPIDS SWIM SCHOOL
The Rapids Swim School is a pre-competitive development program for swimmers age 5-10. Groups have a high coachto-swimmer ratio to encourage consistent attention and improvement. Swim School Graduates will be encouraged to join
the club’s Age Group Development, Regional Development or Youth Fitness programs as appropriate.
Swimmers will be regularly evaluated to see if any group movement is appropriate. The Minoru Program Director reserves
the right to move up swimmers that have met some, but not all, level requirements.
Level 1 (Section A, B, C, or D)
Maximum 4 per group
This program is the first step in the development of a young swimmer. Basic skills including body and water movement,
floating, breath control, and front and back swimming will be taught. Skills taught in this level will ensure a strong
foundation in the skills needed to develop freestyle and backstroke.
There are 4 different groups to choose from which offer a choice of days and times.
Prerequisites:
• Minimum age 5 (unless approved by coach), maximum age 10
• Red Cross Swim Kids 2 completed or assessed by Rapids coach
Equipment Required: Rapids team bathing suit, Rapids t-shirt, Rapids cap if worn.
Level 2 (Section A, B, C, or D)
Maximum 5 per group
This program is the second step in the development of a young swimmer. The development of proper kicking mechanics,
breath control, and deep-water activities are continued. Butterfly kick, full backstroke and full freestyle are introduced.
Endurance is built through kick sets and full stroke swim sets.
There are 4 different groups to choose from which offer a choice of days and times.
Please note your child may be asked to participate in approximately 6 Mini Meets throughout the swim season.
Prerequisites:
• Minimum age 5 (unless approved by coach), maximum age 10
• Successful completion of RRSS level 1 or assessed by Rapids coach
Equipment Required: Rapids team bathing suit, Rapids t-shirt, Rapids cap if worn
Level 3 (Section A, B, or C)
Maximum 8 per group
This program is the third step in the development of a young swimmer. The development of full stroke freestyle and
backstroke is continued. Progression skills are taught in the development of butterfly and breaststroke is introduced.
Proper freestyle and backstroke turn skills are established and development of proper diving techniques continues.
There are 3 different groups to choose from which offer a choice of days and times.
Please note your child may be asked to participate in approximately 6 Mini Meets throughout the swim season.
Prerequisites:
• Minimum age 5 (unless approved by coach), maximum age 10
• Successful completion of level 2 or assessed by Rapids coach
Equipment Required: Rapids team bathing suit, Rapids t-shirt, Rapids cap if worn, water bottle

Level 4 (Section A, B)
Maximum 8 per group
This program is the fourth step in the development of a young swimmer. Full stroke freestyle, backstroke and butterfly
skills are practiced and refined. Breaststroke skills are further developed. Proper starting, diving and turning techniques
are emphasized. Endurance is further developed through an increase in endurance swim and kick sets.
There are 2 different groups to choose from which offer a choice of days and times.
Please note your child may be asked to participate in approximately 6 Mini Meets throughout the swim season.
Prerequisites:
• Minimum age 5 (unless approved by coach), maximum age 10
• Successful completion of level 3 or assessed by Rapids coach
Equipment Required: Rapids team bathing suit, Rapids t-shirt, Rapids cap if worn, water bottle
Level 5 (Section A, B)
Maximum 8 per group
This program is the fifth step in the development of a young swimmer. Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Freestyle
strokes are refined. Proper starts, turns and dives are further developed. Skills taught in this level are aimed at the
development of a legal IM (individual medley).
There are 2 different groups to choose from which offer a choice of days and times.
Please note your child may be asked to participate in approximately 6 Mini Meets throughout the swim season.
Prerequisites:
• Minimum age 5 (unless approved by coach), maximum age 10
• Successful completion of level 4 or assessed by Rapids coach

Dryland Gear Preparation and Requirements
Please note: As dryland is an important part of Richmond Rapids programs, being
adequately prepared for these training opportunities is highly important. All groups
require running or cross training shoes and gym shorts for dryland exercises,

AGE GROUP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
The Age Group Development program is designed to introduce young athletes age 10 and under to the sport of
swimming. Skills sets begin at very basic levels and continue upward, and are consistently focused on developing skilled
and knowledgeable athletes. AGD swimmers are encouraged to be multi-disciplined and multi-sport. Once they reach age
11, swimmers can move up to the Regional Development or Provincial Age Group programs.
Age Group Development 1

This level is for children 10 years old and under who enjoy swimming and are interested in participating in the sport of
swimming. Athletes will work on competitive stroke fundamentals, the basics of starts and turns, and their ability to swim
longer freestyle events. This group also has the goal of graduating to lower mainland regional (LMR) level meets through
the Pass system. Pass meets will be offered around the lower mainland, with one travel opportunity during the season.

nutrition, and self-management at practices and at meets. Endurance training is not a focus of this group. Any
“endurance” improvements will happen as a natural product of learning and rehearsing.
Athletes will race at an invitational or LMR meet once every four to six weeks. Swimmers who achieve the qualification
standards for LMR or provincial-level championships will be encouraged to attend. Travel meets will require a parent or
guardian to join their swimmer.

Provincial Age Group Program

This level of our program is for highly motivated athletes from 11 to 14 years of age, who are committed to long-term
development and have met all of the listed group prerequisites. The focus of the group is learning to train, mastering more
sophisticated technique, and exposing the swimmer to expanding aspects of competitive swimming and the sporting
lifestyle. Training emphasis will consist of skill, physiology, and mentality development. In an effort to promote continued
improvement through the Rapids long-term development plan, as well as success in training and at the Provincial level,
PAG requires elevated commitment from its athletes.
Swimmers will have 12-15 competitions per year, highlighted by a championship at the Regional, Provincial, or National
level. Attending meets will often require missing a half-day or more of school, and swimmers are expected to
prepare appropriately for these situations.
Swimmers can move into PAG based on the training and competitive prerequisites provided below. Movement from PAG
to NAG will depend significantly on the swimmer’s ability across multiple events and distances, training capacity, attitude,
and commitment. The Head Age Group Coach and the Director of Swimming will make final decision for all group

The focus of the group is to continue to the process of physiological and technical training, with exposure to multiple levels

opportunities throughout the season, highlighted by two provincial competitions per year. Swimmers in this group may be
able to move into the National program, should they meet the requirements.

This group offers membership to university athletes from April through the long course season (end of July/early August).
The university swimmers will train the appropriate group based on their performance level. University swimmers are

not be possible on land because of gravity and other limiting factors.

Summer Swimmer Winter Maintenance Program
Summer swimmers are welcome to join the Rapids program for maintenance purposes. These swimmers will only train
two hours per week as per the rules and guidelines of the BCSSA. Space is limited and positions will be filled on a first
come first serve basis. Summer swimmers will train with the Rapids group that is appropriate for their age and swimming
ability.

PARENT PARTICIPATION POINT (“PPP”) SYSTEM
The PPP System
In order for the Club to run efficiently and to meet the needs of the community, the Club relies on volunteer
contribution from its members. The PPP system is designed to communicate to families the expected volunteer
requirements. The PPP system requires that each swimmer’s family or guardian(s) earns points through the year by
volunteering for various positions and roles in the Club. The number of points that must be earned in the year is
determined based on the swimmer’s level at the beginning of the year (see table below). If a family or guardian has more
than one swimmer in the Club, they are only required to earn the points assigned to the highest-level swimmer. It is not
necessary to earn points for each swimmer. The number of points required does not change through the year even if the
swimmer moves to a higher level.
Volunteer opportunities within the Club are assigned a nominal point value. A list of volunteer opportunities and their
assigned value may be found on the Club’s website (www.richmondrapids.com) along with regular updates of each
family’s earned PPPs.
Please note, for certified positions as an Official or Judge, the volunteer does not earn any PPP until they shadow at
a swim meet. Attending clinics does not earn PPP.
To encourage families to volunteer at the Club, each point is assigned a value of $40. If families fail to earn all the
points required in the year, the difference between the number of points required and actual points earned multiplied by
$40 must be paid to the Club. For example, if the family or guardian of a RD1 swimmer earns 8 points compared to the
required 10 points, they must pay $80 (2 times $40).
The Club requires each family to provide post-dated cheques equivalent in value to their assigned PPP dollar value
at the time of registration. The post-dated cheques required for each swimming level are shown in the following table.

PPP accounts are evaluated at the end of June. At the end of June, the Club will cash the appropriate number of postdated cheques corresponding to the shortfall in points earned over the course of the entire season.
Any residual funds from the post-dated cheques will be added as a credit to the family’s account. At the end of the

Late Registration and early withdrawal
For families that join the Club after September or withdraw from the Club prior to June, the family’s required number of
PPPs will be pro-rated according to the time spent in the Club. For example, if the swimmer was in the Club for 5 months
(compared to the full 10 months) only 50% of the total points will be required.
Requests for corrections
All requests for corrections of earned PPP totals must be received by the Club no less than 4 weeks after the status of
accounts is posted in early March, for volunteer activities up to and including the Rapids-hosted Fast Swim Meet, and by

REGISTRANT -­‐ 2015-­‐2016 REGISTRATION Dear Registrant/Swimmer/Parent/Guardian
Welcome to the 2015-2016 swimming season! Please take a moment to review this brief explanation of the registration process
required of all swim clubs and individual registrants.
Each swim club in the province of British Columbia is a member of the national governing body for swimming called
Swimming/Natation Canada (SNC) and the provincial governing body called Swim BC. In return for government sport funding, all
governing organizations are required to report on membership. Non-identifying statistics are obtained directly from the data
collected in the Registration system. With your assistance to provide accuracy, we can comply with our requirements and
continue to benefit from strong government support, virtually all of which is directed towards the support of swimmers, coaches
and clubs. For this reason, all swim clubs are required to process all registrations to Swim BC and Swimming Canada via the
online registration system.
In compliance with PIPEDA and Provincial Legislation, consent to the collection and use of personal information is required. All
registrants are therefore required to complete the PIPEDA Registration Consent Form giving consent to the collection and use of
personal information as described in the form. The club will provide this form at registration.
Officials’ Registration: Upon activation of the registration of an Official an email notification will be sent to the Official giving
access to the registration account, to confirm the contained personal information, and refresh the username and password for
re-entry. The email will be from systems@swimming.ca and the subject line will be titled: Registration of Swimming Officials.
Contact your club’s Officials Administrator for assistance.
Swimmer Registration: The final step of registering with the swim club is the confirmation of primary contact and demographic
information related to your family and swimmer(s) in the registration system. When the club Registrar creates a swimmer
registration invoice an auto-email is generated to the primary contact email address asking for review and confirmation of the
submitted information. This email will be from registration@swimming.ca and the subject line will be titled: Swimmer
Registration Confirmation. The link can be accessed once and you will then have the option to create your own username and
password for re-accessing the account. It only takes a couple of minutes to review and update your contact information and
swimmer details. If you require assistance with this confirmation step, your club’s Registrar is the person who can assist you.
This registration step includes answering four questions: (i) Aboriginal Ancestry (ii) Para-Swimming (iii) Deaf / Hard of Hearing (iv)
Citizenship. Providing this information is voluntary and will be used for statistical and informational purposes. It will not be used
by your Provincial Swimming Organization or Swimming Canada for any prohibited purpose as per The Canadian Human Rights
Act and Provincial Human Rights legislation.
(i) The voluntary Aboriginal Ancestry question is being asked so that the Provincial Swimming Organization knows which
swimmers are eligible for the North American Indigenous Games and to perhaps direct families and/or clubs toward any event or
funding opportunity within the Province. In some Provincial jurisdictions, these statistics are also required as part of government
funding reporting requirements. For the Aboriginal Ancestry questions you have 4 options to choose from: 1) Status/Treaty, 2)
Non-Status, 3) Métis or 4) Inuit
(ii) Answering the Para-Swimming question will help Swimming Canada, Swim BC and your swim club to direct opportunities
that are specifically targeted to swimmers with a disability (Para-Swimmers) (refer to: https://www.swimming.ca see:
TEAMS/PARA-SWIMMING). For the Para-swimming question you have 3 options to choose from: 1) Physical, 2) Visual or 3)
Intellectual
(iii) Answering the voluntary Deaf / Hard of Hearing question is to assist in identifying individuals who may be eligible for
participation in events specifically targeted to swimmers who are deaf / hard of hearing.
(iv) If the registrant is not a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident (Landed Immigrant) please indicate this. Canadian
citizenship question is asked to identify individuals who are not eligible to set National records or represent Canada in an
international competition. The default is Canadian citizen. Please uncheck to indicate not being a citizen or permanent resident.
NOTE: It is only upon completing the online registration that you/your swimmer are considered officially registered and
a member of Richmond Rapids Swim Club and then covered by the insurance policy. Similarly, this registration process
must be completed before entries into a swim meet can be submitted and accepted. Registration must be completed
within two weeks (14 days) of commencing participation. Your information is held by the Club, Swim BC and Swimming
Canada in compliance with the SNC Privacy Policy that can be reviewed at https://www.swimming.ca/Privacy.

Richmond Rapids Swimmers Code of Ethics Form As a member of the Richmond Rapids Swim Club all swimmers must adhere to the rules and regulations of the
swim club. Swimmers that do not adhere to these rules will result in a review of the swimmer’s participation
and/or membership with the club by the swimmers coach, and/or the Director of Swimming or Club President.

a. Any willful damage will result in costs being charged back to the swimmer.
No use of alcohol, illegal drugs or tobacco products regardless of legal age or not.
No possession of pornographic, racist, or any other inappropriate material.
At travel meets: no breaking curfew set by the coaches or chaperones.
Swimmers must wear Rapids team gear when competing at any competition.
Have appropriate training gear at practice at all times.
Strive for excellence and know your priorities: 1. Family 2. School 3. Swimming
Swimmers will not speak, text, email or post on social networking sites negative, rude,
disrespectful comments about the club, club staff or their teammates.
Non-compliance with any of the above rules is grounds to have one’s membership reviewed and/or revoked. At travel
meets, these rules and those established by the coach or chaperone are sufficient grounds for swimmers to be withdrawn
from the meet and to be sent home at their own expense, based on the discretion of both the coach and the chaperone.
Each and every member has a role and an effect on the success of the team. As a member of the club, swimmers must
understand their participation in this program is a privilege and strive to be the best athlete, teammate, and competitor
that they can be through acting in a positive and respectful manner.

The Rapids Parents Role
As a parent/guardian of a swimmer, parents must understand that swimming is simply a sport that your child does. The
role of a swimming parent is to support, love and encourage their child. Swimming teaches children many life skills and
can build one’s character. The Rapids coaches will help teach the swimmers about commitment, work ethic, teamwork,
living a healthy lifestyle and managing their time, not just how to swim fast. Support the coach and the program.
Kids progress at different rates. Parents must understand some swimmers will be much more skilled and advanced at a
young age while other swimmers will progress faster as they get older, stronger, more skilled or more coordinated. Your
kids will have success and failures. Be a positive role model in these times. As a parent, your children look to you to set
the example, not to be a coach. If you have questions or concerns talk to the coaches after a practice or phone or email
them. Don’t gossip or speak negatively about the program. If there’s a problem, discuss it with your child’s coach or the
Director of Swimming, rather than complain about it. There’s always a solution. Your child and their coach will appreciate
you for it. For details on how to address a concern, please see the following Parent Protocol. You are required to
sign that document as well.
Lastly, a swimming parent must understand that swim clubs are largely driven by the support by its members. By
volunteering or supporting the Club with any ideas that will help the team grow, be a better organization or assist with
building a successful environment for children that are striving for excellence in sport.

Rapids Membership Contract and Release Form
I/We have read and understand the Richmond Rapids Registration Booklet and Fee Payment
Form. I/we agree to the policies, procedures and standards, and registration fees set by the
Richmond Rapids Swim Club, its coaching staff and board of directors.
Medical Release – In the event of a medical emergency I/we authorize our child(ren) to be treated by
certified emergency/medical personnel. I have provided all necessary medical information about my child
via the Rapids website. Please note: Access to medical information will only be available to employees,
chaperones and board members of the Rapids deemed necessary to have access to this information by the
Director of Swimming.
Media Permissions – Group photographs may be posted without identifying swimmers. I/we give
permission to post individual photographs of our children or ourselves on the club web site, bulletin boards,
newsletters and related publications, and to include names and achievements in team stories. Please also
read and sign the Swim BC Personal Information Consent Form at the end of this packet.
Travel and Behavior Guidelines – I/we confirm reading and signing the Rapids Code of Ethics form. I/we
agree that we will explain and discuss these guidelines with our child(ren) and agree to abide by these
guidelines.
Parent Participation Program – I/we confirm reading the Parent Participation Program included in the
registration booklet, and agree to contribute to team activities as outlined.
Outstanding Balances – I/we understand that we will receive regular account statements and can also view
outstanding account balances via the Rapids web site, and that the outstanding balance must not exceed $500
at any point.
Privacy – The Richmond Rapids Swim Club is required to submit information such as swimmer names, birth
dates and contact information to Swimming-Natation Canada (SNC) and Swim BC, the National and Provincial
governing bodies, for registration and insurance. In addition, please be aware that competitive swimming takes
place in a public forum. Competition results, including swimmers’ names, will be posted at swim meet
locations, on our web site, and at the SNC Meets site (https://www.swimming.ca/MeetList.aspx). We have also
signed the SWIM BC Personal Information Consent form.

Richmond Rapids Parent Protocol for Conflict Resolution
Parents and coaches share a crucial role in the personal and social development of athletes and in
setting the values of our swim club. Every member of the Rapids is part of the Rapids Family; we
must work together to ensure that we treat each other with fairness and respect in order to provide a
positive and healthy environment for our athletes. This Parent Protocol provides a resolution structure
should disagreements arise.
Conflict Resolution Procedures
In keeping with the Team Philosophy as outlined in the Parent Handbook, all communication between
parents and coaches should be respectful and constructive. Aggressive or abusive language is not
permitted.
When a parent has questions or doubts about what is happening at the pool, the first step should be
to talk with the coach after practice about the concerns. If the parent is dissatisfied with the answers,
they should wait 24 hours before taking any further action. This requirement allows time for
reassessment of the matter in hope of calming any emotional reactions.
If, after discussion with the coach, an agreement cannot be reached, the following flowchart should
be used to determine the next appropriate action.
With everyone's help, we can continue to build the Rapids as the best place to raise and train
swimming athletes.
