Since the year 2010, new institutions are regulated by the Central Bank of Uruguay: financial services companies, transfer fund companies and providers of administrative, accounting and data processing services. Main figures in 2012 The objectives of the current bulletin is to present the main figures and indicators of the banking system as of December 31st, 2012 and its evolution in the last years. The figures and indicators were elaborated by means of information published by the Central Bank of Uruguay in its website and converted into American dollars using the USD/$ exchange rate published by the Uruguayan Central Bank . The information for the BHU is not available yet, for that reason is considered to elaborate this bulletin the last data available of November 2012. The Uruguayan banking system in the 2012 showed an increase in the volume of deposits and loans and thus continues the growing trend of recent years. Foreign currency deposits increased compared to December of 2011 while there was a fall in domestic currency deposits, particularly in private banks. The national currency loans to non financial non public sector granted by official banks showed an increase in the second half of 2012 surpassing the fall of the first half, as the same way credit extended by private banks continued their evolution. Regarding the results, private banks have improved compared with 2011 obtaining positive result contrasting the negative results of 2011. Among the gains observed in this period it stands out the increase in the performance of banks BBVA , Banco Itaú and Banco Santander. In contrast to this Public Banks reduced their profit compared with 2011. 01 5 introducción AMOUNT OF FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS PER TYPE Credit Administrators Public Banks 2 Private Banks 11 Representative Offices 32 Financial Houses 5 Exchange Houses 55 Offshore Banks 4 Financial Services Companies 26 Cooperatives 1 Fund Transfer Companies 8 Service Providers 29 Consortiums 2 (16 major y 16 minor) 32 02 Main figures 02 7 Main figures Financial Statements Main figures OFFICIAL BANKS 31/12/2008 31/12/2009 31/12/2010 31/12/2011 31/12/2012 US$ miles US$ miles US$ miles US$ miles US$ miles Assets 9.175.990 10.427.609 11.574.783 13.284.882 14.942.401 Liabilities 8.237.054 8.942.372 9.945.117 11.507.418 12.963.062 Equity 938.936 1.485.237 1.629.666 1.777.464 1.979.339 Contingencies 197.063 183.153 190.291 218.895 268.012 6.932.037 7.114.071 7.642.761 8.832.438 10.065.545 Net Income / Losses 168.687 59.918 171.494 326.451 263.969 Net interest income 410.789 630.178 651.995 778.058 869.423 Net fee and commission income 36.940 48.276 45.861 50.992 57.722 Operating income 115.668 108.007 61.056 62.926 50.177 Operating expenses 366.474 613.561 572.847 527.881 628.013 Memoranda Accounts 02 8 Main figures Financial Statements Main Figures PRIVATE BANKS 31/12/2008 31/12/2009 31/12/2010 31/12/2011 31/12/2012 US$ miles US$ miles US$ miles US$ miles US$ miles Assets 9.808.772 11.622.314 13.798.707 15.634.285 17.250.690 Liabilities 8.972.497 10.510.206 12.632.282 14.447.973 15.948.760 Equity 836.275 1.112.108 1.166.426 1.186.312 1.301.930 Contingencies 815.747 980.597 1.223.799 1.408.806 1.771.640 Memoranda Accounts 14.812.034 16.189.159 22.589.589 25.816.845 30.195.702 Net Income / Losses 19.893 -91.439 26.105 -23.880 115.533 Net interest income 311.816 404.435 476.759 470.584 688.073 Net fee and commission income 82.425 128.931 139.964 144.080 183.652 Operating income 19.684 43.465 29.537 46.523 36.494 Operating expenses 360.232 713.928 676.810 715.141 847.792 02 9 Main figures Results per type of Institution Amounts in thousands of US$ 64.847 115.533 94.410 73.090 89.655 2006 26.105 27.029 19.893 15.307 107.998 58.960 34.389 (9.086) 2005 65.525 210.678 232.042 123.193 153.380 2007 2008 BROU Banco Bandes Uruguay S.A.
