irgin Atlantic has announced
new flights from Glasgow

next summer.
The Belfast route will be the

No restaurants or meeting space in new brand...
ondon-based hotel firm glh
has revealed a new four-star
brand as it looks to fill the
gap in the city’s midscale hotel
market.
The every hotels brand will
open its first hotel in Piccadilly this
November aimed at the ‘qualityconscious’ business traveller and
‘savvy city explorer’.
Other hotels are already
in the pipeline for Hyde Park,
Leicester Square and Bloomsbury,
all of which are going through
refurbishments. The four properties
have previously operated under the
Thistle brand.
The every brand is expected to
have more than 50 hotels by the
end of the decade.
The brand will be focused on
bedrooms instead of restaurants
and meeting space, with glh looking
for further sites in London including
existing hotels, conversions and
new builds.
“The four-star full-feature
hotel product is a dinosaur for
many cities around the world. We

SuperBreak’s new rail booking
system launches
S
uperBreak has launched a new
rail booking system for travel
agents.
The online system offers
guaranteed seats at no extra cost
and confirmed train times and route
at the time of booking.
A new search function means
agents can select the hotel plus rail
option followed by departure date,
station and times which will then
bring up suggested packages.
Graham Balmforth, national
sales manager at SuperBreak
said: “This makes things so
much clearer and convenient for
agents. Previously rail tickets were
added as an add-on at the end
of a booking but now they are an
integral part of the process.”

Bombardier
to fuel Flybe
strategy
F
lybe has announced it has
agreed to use the Bombardier
400 as its aircraft on choice for further
growth.
The carrier’s CEO Saad Hammad
said the Q400 will play an ‘integral
role’ in capacity additions, having
scaled back its operation in November
to the most profitable routes.
“This strategic agreement with
Bombardier is an important part of
our commitment to profitable regional
flying. The Q400 is specifically
optimised for regional routes and the
Flybe fleet will be one of the most
operationally efficient regional fleets
in the world,” said Hammad. “Any
decisions regarding incremental
capacity deployment in the UK will
see the Bombardier Q400 aircraft play
an integral role."

FOUR TECHNOLOGY NEWS STORIES THAT
YOU SHOULD BE AWARE OF
New honeycomb screening could ease airport
process
Football fans heading into the Area de Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil had
their belongings checked through honeycomb-shaped machines, in what
could eventually make its way into airports. The machine scans for various
threats in seconds and has been successful during the stadium trials.
Wired.co.uk said passengers would be able to hold up their airline ticket
that assigns them a pod, which they then place their bag in. While the
passenger walks around the side the machine uses sensors and X-ray to
see any threats and if there isn’t then the passenger can open the door on
the other side using their ticket.
England’s national parks get improved
mobile signal
England’s national parks
will get better mobile signal
following an agreement with
four operators. The deal with
EE, O2, Vodafone and Three
will mean improved coverage
for more than 300,000 people
that live in national parks across
the country. It will particularly
cover areas that have no signal
at all, with the BBC reporting that masts will be ‘sensitively located and
designed’.
First cab goes cash and cardless
One London black cab driver has become the first to not accept cash
and card payments. Ian Cable will only welcome payment by mobile
phone for a week, and it comes after London’s buses started to only offer
touch payment on Oyster or debit cards. He is using Barclay’s Pingit
for payment and the Paym system but users need to have the app and
link it to their bank account before making any purchases. Cable said
the system will also mean he does not need to stop at cashpoints when
customers do not have money on them, and risk a fine.
Keeping tablets causes sales slowdown
Sales of tablet devices are
slowing as people hold onto
older models. Analysts have
seen a more dramatic slowdown
than expected for tablets as
consumers are choosing to
keep them for three years or
longer. A report by CCS Insight
and reported by the Telegraph
found that longer battery life,
software updates and ‘robust’ designs are causing people to keep tablets
for longer.

New responsible business travel
event announced
Organisers behind the
Business Travel Show have
announced a new one-day event
focused on sustainable travel.
The Responsible Travel
Management Conference will take place in London on 8 October and
will be free for business travel managers to attend.
Covering topics including duty of care, sustainability and CSR, the
new event is the first to launch under Centaur Live’s new Business
Travel IQ brand that combines events, reports and insight.
Networking sessions and a small expo will also be held during the
one-day event.
“At the Responsible Management Conference delegates will
develop a much deeper understanding of the risks and responsibilities
that come from doing business in a changing global economy as well
as how to create a more sustainable programme without increases in
costs,” said event director David Chapple.
London's Savoy Hotel develops
wildflower walk
The Savoy Hotel in London
is developing a 'wildflower walk',
alongside the UK capital's River
Thames. As part of its 125th
anniversary celebrations, the
Fairmont-managed hotel is
leading an initiative that will
create London’s first ever central
wildflower walk - a floral trail that
will increase the amount of native wildflowers in the city, as well as
raising awareness of green and floral spaces along the Thames. All
along the river, green spaces will be planted with wild flowers to create
a string of ‘pit-stops’ for bees and other pollinators.
The River of Flowers project will be unveiled in August this year,
and includes a map that plots the wild gardens, meadows and groves
of trees along the north and south banks of the Thames.
Anantara raises funds for
Thailand's elephants
V
isit Greece has now put what
is has claimed to be the
most comprehensive Greek ferry
schedule in English to date. The
website now includes more than
13,000 routes between the mainland
and islands as well as inter-islands.
It has a search option to help people
arrange itineraries, and the vessels
have recently been refurbished.
“Island hopping in Greece has
just got a whole load easier thanks
to the new established collaboration
of visitgreece with the GTPsearch
engine. This is great news for agents
too as island hopping has always
been the most delightful way to
see the diversity Greece in one
holiday, but now it has never been
easier to plan or more desirable as
the new modern fleet is now speedy,
reliable and even luxurious,” said
Christina Kalogera, Greek National
Tourism director in the UK & Ireland.
As Anantara prepares to host
the 13th King's Cup Elephant
Polo Tournament in August, the
resort operator has unveiled a
new pledge to raise awareness
and money for Thailand's
elephants.
The company has teamed
up with some of Thailand's most
famous TV stars, asking them to
put their artistic skills to the test by painting mini statues of elephants.
These works of art will then be auctioned off during the tournament.
The funds raised from the auction will go donated to local charity
Elephant Parade, to help its efforts to protect Thailand's elephants.
Thai celebrities taking part in the initiative include Woody
Milintachinda, Cindy Bishop, Tanya Engtrakul, Pip Rawich, Mutmee
Pimdao, Put Putthichai, View Wannarose, Poo Anirut, Bee Matika, Paul
Pattarapol, Data Daranratch, Jeab Karnjanaporn, Kae Chollada and
Took Chanokwanun.
Now in its 13th year, the King's Cup has so far raised US$750,000
for Thailand's wild and domesticated elephant population, including
the creation of the first elephant hospital in Krabi. A total of 50 street
elephants will take part in this year's tournament.

Copa Air traffic surges in 2014
Copa Airlines has seen
a strong double-digit rise in
passenger traffic in the first half
of the year. For the six month
period between January and
June 2014, Copa's traffic,
measured in revenue passenger
miles (RPM), surged 11.8%
compared with the same period
in 2013. Load factors increased
1.6 percentage points to 77.7%.
And much of the airline's growth was driven by domestic routes, which
