Melius Christiansen (FMC) Endowment Fund was established in 1996 by the American Choral Directors Association of Minnesota (ACDA-MN) to guarantee a vibrant future for choral music in the state of Minnesota. Its mission is to provide financial support to Minnesota choral conductors for professional development and graduate education, to encourage young musicians in the state of Minnesota to pursue choral conducting as a career, and to provide financial support for administration of FMC Endowment Fund Committee activities. THE INSPIRATION The endowment’s namesake, F. Melius Christiansen (18711955), was a Norwegian immigrant who is considered the ‘father’ of a cappella singing in North America. Christiansen founded the St. Olaf Choir in Northfield, Minnesota, and shaped it into arguably the best-known collegiate choir in the world. For nearly thirty years, he used an ethic of hard work to achieve perfect intonation, seamless ensemble blend, and crisp diction. The F. Melius Christiansen Endowment Fund recognizes Christiansen’s inspirational contributions to the choral art. THE IMPACT In addition to providing administrative support for the Endowment Fund Committee, The FMC Endowment Fund offers scholarships to ACDA-MN conductors studying at the undergraduate or graduate levels and to conductors actively directing academic, community, corporate, faith-based and professional choral ensembles. Scholarship programs provide financial support for ACDA-MN members and collegiate student conductors to attend Summer Dialogue, ACDA national and division conferences, the World Symposium on Choral Music and to pursue graduate study in choral conducting. Scholarship descriptions and the 2015 recipients are listed on pages 4 and 5. 2015 FINANCIAL STATEMENT for the year January 1, 2015 through December 31, 2015 FMC Endowment Fund Balance as of December 31, 2014: $746,404 FMC Endowment Fund Balance as of December 31, 2015: $730,711 INCOME CONTRIBUTED Individual Donations Foundation and Corporate Sponsorships TOTAL CONTRIBUTED EARNED Investment Income TOTAL EARNED TOTAL INCOME $29,496 $12,995 $42,491 (-) $26,648 (-) $26,648 $15,843 EXPENSE Administrative Operating Costs Credit Card Transaction Fees Endowment Fund Scholarships Summer Dialogue Student Conducting Workshop National Conference Graduate Study Student Symposium Total Scholarships TOTAL EXPENSE $12,898 $278 $1,785 $1,200 $4,379 $9,800 $1,196 $18,360 $31,536 As a current student, I received many program ideas from concerts, attended interest sessions that pertained to my future classroom, and met so many wonderful people with whom I have lifelong connections.
