CONSUMER FIREWORKS ORDINANCE
The City of Noblesville’s fireworks ordinance now states that
consumer fireworks may now only be used in the Noblesville
city limits during the following days and times:
• Between the hours of 5pm and two hours after sunset on June
29, June 30, July 1, July 2, July 3, July 5, July 6, July 7, July 8,
and July 9.
• Between the hours of 10am and 12 midnight on July 4
Both Fire Chief Ken Gilliam and Police Chief Kevin Jowitt
support the fireworks ordinance:
• statistics provided from the Indiana State Injury Report,
• concerned citizens who have expressed their support for a
change in the ordinance
the fact that between 1 – 3 major structure fires occur in
Noblesville every year as a result of consumer fireworks.
First time violators of the ordinance will receive a warning from the
NPD. Additional violations will result in citations. City of Noblesville
public safety personnel are confident that these ordinance changes
will result in a much safer community.
•
After all of your personal fireworks have been set off,
everyone is encouraged to pickup the spent fragments left
behind in the streets, on the sidewalks in front of their
homes and/or anywhere else they may have landed, at your
earliest convenience. This will prevent the plastics, sticks
and cardboard debris from being washed into the storm
water sewers and into to our creeks, streams, rivers and
eventually our water supply — : )
Independence Day Neighborhood Party
Come celebrate & join your friends and neighbors for an
Independence Day PARTY on Saturday, July 3 on Carnation
Drive! ALL residents of Sommerwood are invited to attend
following the parade. Dinner is at 6:30 and fireworks start
at 10:00. Meats, buns and dinnerware will be provided. If
your house number is even bring an appetizer of side dish. If
your house number is odd bring a dessert. Please bring
your own chairs and drinks for your family. A suggested
donation of $20 per family to cover some of the cost of the
event would be greatly appreciated. See YOU there!

•
Some areas in the neighborhood have side walks sinking or raised. The city will (in time)
take care of this if you get on the list. The homeowner can either call and report to the
city or notify Tom Fernandez with an address.

Pool News
•
There has been a recommendation to purchase two (2) umbrellas for the pool, if Gerry
Porter agrees they are needed. Perhaps they can be purchased from Costco. Pizza
Night is in swing again on Thursday nights. and all Adults are invited to partake. No
swings will be installed at the playground, due to space limitations.
Landscaping
•
The flowers look great. Thanks to the contractor who planted them. Junipers are dead.
These will be replaced by knock-out roses. The tall grass over the lights on Allisonville
Road needs something done. Brickman will address the issue.

Missing, dead, falling trees that are a hazard can be reported to Tom Fernandez, if
homeowners are not comfortable discussing with neighbors. Per our association rules,
this is the responsibility of the homeowner to maintain. Tom will send a letter to the
homeowners to correct the issue.
Abandoned Property
•
For the properties that have been reported grass-cutting to be an issue, Brickman will
cut the grass if neighbors are not already volunteering to cut. The homeowner will be
charged at closing. The board is no longer cutting grass and doing repairs as this is an
insurance issue.

The Ash trees in Sommerwood have been tagged to be sprayed. Two or three
neighborhoods have been selected by the city to spray. We are very lucky. This process
will also include root ball injection. This should take place in the next few weeks.
Overhanging limbs are still an issue and must be taken care of. If there is an issue,
please contact Tom F. He will send a notice to the homeowner to address within 30
days.

There are 190 homes in Sommerwood. 90% have paid their homeowners fees.
Board voted to approve tree removal that fell down during the storm. The duck weed
application was also approved.

Emerald Ash Tree Update
The Noblesville Street Department has recently been in the neighborhood, measuring the
Ash trees in around Sommerwood. The crew confirmed that is was related to the
Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) problem and that the city will be receiving the chemical to treat
the trees FREE of charge to residents. The process will be to inject the chemical into the
roots of the trees to protect them from the EAB. —Update submitted by Kevin E. Shellcroft

Please be reminded that RV’s, boats, trailers and other water vehicles
should be parked out of view of your neighbors.
Once trash day has come and gone, please store trash and recycling
containers out of sight.
Just a Reminder . . . There are several areas along the sidewalks, where you
have to walk around overhanging limbs on the street. For the safety of all,
please trim trees along the sidewalks—it would be greatly
appreciated!
On your daily walk with your pets, please be reminded that
DOG WASTE should be disposed of at your resident’s and
steer clear of the trash containers at the pool.

GPS systems are a hot item for burglars. Other items, such as, cash, CDs, portable radio
devices, radar detectors and wallets are appealing as well. Here are some tips from the NPD:

Don’t leave the keys in the vehicle.

Lock the vehicle, even in your driveway.

Consider locking valuables in your trunk or removing at night.

Don’t leave burglar bait in plain sight. Extend this to your home trash; don’t leave the new
computer-TV-VCR-Stereo-Xbox box in plain view in your trash can. Leaving these in plain sight
says, BREAK IN HERE, we have good stuff. Put it in a trash bag, in the trash can.
GOING GREEN IN NOBLESVILLE SERIES – YARD WASTE
The phrase “going green” has become more
and more common the last few years as
citizens increase their knowledge of and
efforts
toward
helping
our
environment. Although the most
familiar methods of going green
include things such as recycling,
walking or biking instead of driving a car, etc., the City of
Noblesville’s Clean Storm Water
P r o g r am h e l p s e d u c a t e
residents on other easy ways to
personally “go green” and help
our environment.
Did you
know that homeowners use ten times more
chemicals per acre on lawns than farmers
use on crops? Grass clippings, leaves, and
branches are very high in nitrogen and
phosphorus. If this yard waste is emptied into
storm drains, blown out into the street, or
dumped into Morse Reservoir, the White
River, or other local water bodies, then it
leads to excessive algae growth in those
waterways.
Here are a few ways that
homeowners can help protect our waterways:
Do not dump anything in storm
drains. Storm drains lead directly to our

waterways, so anything that goes into a
storm drain will end up in the reservoir, river,
or other body of water.
Sweep grass
clippings, leaves, and fertilizers that get onto
a driveway or sidewalk back onto your
lawn. This will help to keep them out
of storm drains. Use a mulching
lawn mower:
Leave grass
clippings and leaves on the lawn. Run
over them with your mower to cut
them up further and then leave them
there. They provide nutrients and are
the best fertilizer for your lawn.
Make and use compost: Dispose of lawn
waste in compost piles. This results in a rich
natural fertilizer for your plants or garden,
allows for reuse of yard waste, and saves
money.
Visit www.compostguide.com for
simple instructions. Each of us can take
simple steps to improve our environment
and the City of Noblesville hopes that
residents will be mindful of how each of our
actions affect our surroundings. For more
information, contact Noblesville’s Clean Storm
Water Program at (317) 770-5132 or visit
www.cityofnoblesville.org/cleanwater.
Grass Clippings
Street Department does not pick up grass clippings.
Grass clippings can be included with resident's trash as part of the resident's two 96 gallon cart
limit. Overage bags can be purchased for anything over the two cart limit for solid waste removal
to be picked up by Republic Services.
Bags must weight 40 lbs or less.
Only grass clippings may be taken to the Hamilton County Household Hazardous Waste Center at
1717 Pleasant Street. Clippings must be dumped out of bags and/or containers. Please
contact Hamilton County Hazardous Waste Center at 776-4005 for business hours.
