Newsletter Fourth Quarter 2015
OCTOBER-NOVEMBER-DECEMBER2015 What's Up Phlock The Arizona Parrot Head Club Newsletter From The President Goodbye 2015, Hello 2016! This is my last article as the 2015 President of our club - Tammy Bauman is assuming that honor for 2016. And, an honor it has been. I love our club and its members and the great heart and passion we put in to Partying With A Purpose. Thanks to the 2015 BOD and Committee Chairs and welcome to the 2016ers! It takes many hands to keep the ship afloat and steering towards our goals. Please consider stepping up this year and joining our leadership in some way. We’re always looking for committee members and event chairs. Parrot Grande 2016 - Mark your calendars for August 26-28, 2016. We’ve got some changes coming for the event but it will still be at Pointe Tapatio Cliffs and it will still be a blast. Our entertainment lineup is set with Sam Rainwater, Mark Mulligan, Bob Karwin and, new to our event, James “Sunny Jim” White and Southern Drawl Band. I can’t wait! Registration will be open soon and more details will follow! 2016 Dues - Don’t forget to pay your dues. PayPal invoices were sent to everyone but you can also pay by check to the PO box or, better yet, come to an event and hand over your dough. We would love to see you! Looking forward to all the fun to be had in 2016 - let’s make it the best year ever! Kathy Pfister Arizona Parrot Head Club President Region Co-Communicator http://cheesehead-ramblings.blogspot.com/ PHiP Western Alzheimer's Memory Walk - November 14 Thanks for helping us do our part to help people affected by this awful disease. All Parrot Heads were collectively challenged by the Alzheimer’s Association and our parent organization, Parrot Heads in Paradise (PHiP) to surpass a lofty fundraising goal in 2015. The clubs stepped up, big time, and exceeded the overall $100,000 challenge to raise a total of $155,205.99! (Yes, .99.) That makes us a Silver Level National Supporter of the organization. The Arizona Parrot Head Club participated in the Phoenix Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk To End Alzheimer’s as part of this effort. It was on a gorgeous November morning. While I was in favor of the 1K walk because I’m inherently lazy, we ended up on the 5K route. At least, I got my 10,000 steps in for the day. Thanks to the efforts of our walkers, Tammy Bauman, Mary Harrigan, Elaine Jordan, Karen Lyons and yours truly and fundraising assistance led by Penny and Robert Backhaus among others, we raised $1,733 for the cause. Of course, we had to rehydrate after our exertions so we moseyed to Ajo Al’s for lunch on the patio where we were joined by a group of club members. It was a lovely time. Looking forward to repeating the experience in 2016 - hope you can join us! AZPHC Christmas/Holid Another successful Christmas/Holiday Party is in the books! We had a special visitor this year; we knew Bob ‘Bobo’ Cornell was coming from New Mexico. What we didn’t know – he was bringing our dear friend Wastnawa with him! And in true Wastnawa style he came dressed up so he could surprise everyone! It was so awesome to see him. Thom Strupp won the hat contest (thanks to Susan Gayle’s sewing talent). Crash did win the joke contest this year though several others gave it a shot! I think if Adam Lyons could remember his jokes; he has a chance at it. J We broke out 50/50 raffle record - $640! Half went to our 4th Quarter charity (Dogs on Deployment) and the other half went to Kathy Pfister (who bought Packer/Cardinal football tickets with it; not much else to say about that). We also drew a second name for a Landshark banner which was one by Elaine Jordan! We had representatives at the party from USO Arizona; it was awesome to have them here. The big winner of the night – Andrea’s Closet! We collected about $1500 worth of toys! Of course having some very competitive club members helped with that. It’s always a good time with all the delicious food club members bring, giving to our charities and just seeing everyone! See you next year!
