Aishwarya Rai (now Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) is a leading actress
of India. Born on November 1, 1973, Aishwarya won the Miss
World beauty competition in 1994. She has worked in numerous
international movies in addition to a number of popular
Bollywood movies.
Aishwarya Rai is the ethereally beautiful Indian actress whose
credits include winning the Miss World Pageant, a successful
modelling career and a brilliant spell as an award winning actress.
Aishwarya was born in Mangalore in the Southern state of
Karnataka, India on November 1st, 1973.Her father Krishna Raj
Ria was a merchant navy officer and mother Vrinda Rai, a writer.
They relocated to Mumbai when Aishwarya was 4 years old. She
excelled in academics in school and hoped to pursue medicine as a
career. She attended Ruparel College at Matunga and now her
ambition was to become an architect.
While pursuing architecture, Aishwarya started modelling side by
side. In 1991, she was persuaded by a friend to participate in the
Ford Super Model contest to her surprise she won and was spotted
by a photographer Steven Meisel for a photo for Vogue magazine.
As more and more ads came pouring in, she decided to take up
modeling full time and a break from studies. Her real test with
fame came from a Pepsi commercial starring her along with hot
actor Aamir Khan. This launched her as the face of a thousand ads.
In spring 2007 Aishwarya joined the most prestigious Bollywood
family by marrying actor Abhishek Bachchan. The rest is history.
