Wanting to help, he created TOMS, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. One for One.™ Five years later, TOMS realized this movement could serve other basic needs and launched TOMS Eyewear. With every pair purchased, TOMS will help give sight to a person in need. One for One.™ As more everyday choices have the power to impact the lives of those around the world, the TOMS movement will continue to grow and evolve. Join us at TOMS.com 6 Why Shoes? Many children in developing countries grow up without shoes. Whether at play, doing chores or going to school, these children are at risk: • A leading cause of disease in developing countries is soiltransmitted diseases, which can penetrate the skin through bare feet. Wearing shoes can help prevent these d iseases, and the long-term physical and cognitive harm they cause. • Wearing shoes also prevents feet from getting cuts and sores. Not only are these injuries painful, they also are d angerous when wound s become infected . • Often, children can’t attend school barefoot because shoes are a required part of their uniform. If they don’t have shoes, they d on’t go to school. If they d on’t receive an ed ucation, they d on’t have the opportunity to realize their potential. 7 Welcome to the TOMS Movement Why Sight? 1 This is a Solvable Crisis 80% of all visual impairment can be avoided or cured. 2We Can Help Break the Poverty Trap 90% of those visually impaired live in developing countries. 3Sight Means Education and Opportunity Corrected sight improves abilities at school and work. 4Women & Girls Have an Equal Right to Sight 2/3 of people who are blind are female. 5There Is an Immediate Impact Most treatments are immediate or can be done in a few days 6We Can Create a Better Tomorrow Regaining sight and preventing loss of sight transforms lives. 8 How We Help Give Sight Medical Treatment Treating sight-threatening conditions(injury, infection and disease) with prescription medications, removal of foreign objects and clinical attention and education.
