This is the museum’s first IMLS grant and it comes at a momentous time - during our 35th year. Omaha Children’s Museum is the only museum in Nebraska to secure an IMLS grant in 2011 and will receive $150,000 over three years. Through the community-engaged exhibit program to date, partners from the community along with the museum staff have created favorite visitor exhibits including Construction Zone and Big Backyard. The communityengaged exhibits on the horizon will continue to delight visitors, they include: Construction Zone: Return of the Bulldozer (Winter 2011), Itty Bitty City (Winter 2012-13) and Things That Go (Winter 2013-14). Museums for America is the Institute’s largest grant program for museums, supporting projects and ongoing activities that build museums’ capacity to serve their communities. Museums for America grants strengthen a museum’s ability to serve the public more effectively by supporting high-priority activities that advance the institution’s mission and strategic goals.
