Upgrading from earlier versions
If you’re already using an older
version of Sage Line 50, you’re
probably wondering what’s
changed. The summaries below
will demonstrate how you and
your business would benefit
from upgrading.
If you’re upgrading from
version 11
You’ll immediately notice the
changes to the look and feel,
including Process Maps and
Dashboards. We’ve improved Bank
Reconciliation, Excel Integrated
Reporting and Project Costing. We
have added a Cash Sale option,
increased the number of components
on a Bill of Materials and made it
easier for you to view and amend
discounts while entering invoices and
orders. In addition, Financial Controller
now supports up to ten users.
If you’re upgrading from
version 10
Along with all the changes above,
you’ll also benefit from the Document
Manager and additional Credit Control
functionality including a Suggested
Supplier Payments option and a Days
Sales Outstanding graph. You will be
able to use the additional data security
features, including Event Logging,
Crash Checking, and will have the
ability to comply with all legislation
regarding Intrastat Reports. In addition,
if your accountant uses Line 50 Client
Manager, you will both benefit from the
transferring of your data electronically
via the Accountant Link.
If you’re upgrading from v9
You’ll also benefit from the ability to
create repeat invoices or orders and
enjoy the luxury of converting multiple
quotes and proformas into invoices.
The Cash Flow Planner allows short
term forward cash planning and you
can view outstanding payments both
in and out. Plus the Audit Assistant
allows you to identify suspect or
duplicate transactions in preparation
for an audit inspection.
If you’re upgrading from v8
You’ll also benefit from the ability
to analyse your data historically by
archiving a complete set of company
data. The Foreign Trader allows
you to process foreign currency
transactions in all major currencies,
create foreign currency price lists
and maintain foreign currency bank
accounts. You can have complete
control over your pricing structures
through the use of Individual Customer
Pricing and Custom Price Lists.
You can also store Multiple Delivery
Addresses for use when creating
invoices. In addition, using the latest
technology, you can send and receive
orders and invoices through
Transaction E-mail.

processes. Each Process Map consists of a set of steps, connected together to show a workflow.

Version 12 includes analysis and reporting tools to help you track the conversion of quotations to orders
and invoices. You can also monitor the top performers in your sales team. Plus, Line 50 helps you to
see how many orders you win and lose, and how long it takes to turn a prospect into cash.
Improved Discounting – All Line 50 Variants
With version 12 you can see and change discounts as you enter invoices and orders. Whether you
want to apply one-off discounts to individual items, or across the board, Line 50 helps you provide your
customers with a clear indication of the total discount allowed.
Improved Project Costing – Accountant Plus and Financial Controller
As well as the Project Costing feature introduced in version 11, the improvements make it possible to
organise your projects into logical groups, record committed costs against projects, analyse rolled-up
costs and budgets and compare cost incurred against budgeted amounts.
Document Manager – All Line 50 Variants
Maintain control over all documentation relating to Customers, Suppliers, Products, Transactions etc.
You can store, view, modify and print attachments such as letters, price lists, delivery and assembly
instructions. The report generator capabilities have also been enhanced to include PDF output, allowing
you to share information even easier than before.
Credit Control – All Line 50 Variants
All credit control functionality is brought together in one central place. A Suggested Supplier Payments
option and Days Sales Outstanding graph help you measure the performance of your company against
industry norms and who best to allocate available funds to. A full credit history is available to control and
track all credit control related dealings with both customers and suppliers.
Repeat Invoices - All Line 50 Variants. Repeat Orders – Financial Controller
Enables you to set up the automatic production of regular bills and repeat orders. Useful for rent
collection, selling on credit or monthly membership fees.
Batch Conversion of Quotes and Proformas – All Line 50 Variants
Convert multiple quotes and proformas to order and invoice status.
Individual Customer Pricing and Custom Price Lists – Accountant Plus and Financial Controller
You can create price lists for the same types of customers e.g. Trade or Retail, or each product can be
set up to have a price for each of your customers.
Multiple Delivery Addresses – Accountant Plus and Financial Controller
Store multiple customers, suppliers and company delivery addresses to be used when creating
invoices etc.

New Support For Charities – All Line 50 Variants
Line 50 v12 has features designed to make running and reporting on a charity’s operations easier and
more efficient. We’ve included fund management, charity-specific financial reports, and an improved
chart of accounts designed just for charities.
Improved Bank Reconciliation – All Line 50 Variants
Save Bank Reconciliations part-way through. There is also a second window, so you can see at a glance
which bank transactions have already been matched to the statement and which remain. Plus, you can
keep a PDF image of each reconciliation – and refer back to it if you need to.
New Foreign Bank Account Revaluation – Financial Controller
The foreign bank revaluation wizard helps you set and review the date for revaluation, and all foreign
currency bank accounts feature a list of previous revaluations, so you can see exactly how the value of
these accounts has changed over time. You can also correct a previous revaluation straight from this list.
Plus if you make a retrospective change to a foreign currency bank account, then all the revaluations are
automatically updated.

Improved Bill of Materials – Accountant Plus & Financial Controller
An easy-to-use Bill of Materials editor allows you to set up records of the basic ‘kit of parts’ for your
manufactured or assembled items. This editor allows up to 100 levels.
New Stock Allocation – Accountant Plus & Financial Controller
As well as allocating stock to sales orders, you can allocate to projects, or set aside stock for specific
purposes. The Stock Allocations screen will help you to reserve stock – you can then review and modify
these reservations, and when the time comes, just issue the stock to record the fact that you’ve used it.
New Cash Sales – Financial Controller
Line 50 v12 helps you to execute trade counter sales quickly and easily. The Cash Sale button is
configurable, so you can chose which documents should be printed.
Improved Excel Integrated Reporting – All Line 50 Variants
Microsoft Excel can now link directly to your Line 50 data so that directors and managers can access and
analyse accounts information without needing to use Line 50 themselves or have it installed on the same
PC. There are pre-defined worksheets where data is automatically imported and formatted, allowing you
to analyse specific commercial and financial information.
Accountant Link – All Line 50 Variants
Send information to your accountant electronically. The Accountant can then load, view and record
transactions. Corrections can be easily merged back into your data whilst you continue to process your
daily transactions.
Intrastat Support – Financial Controller
Set defaults, confirm goods to be included in the declaration and produce reports that can be submitted
to HMRC (Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs). Once included in the return, goods are flagged as
reconciled and not included in future returns.
Accounts Analyser - All Line 50 Variants
Displays the nominal ledger as a comprehensive on screen set of charts that can be investigated in more
depth by drill down from the same screen. Stores snapshots of your business that can be compared to
last year’s instantly. The Accounts Analyser has been developed further to include comparisons with
budgets and prior years, giving you an immediate snapshot of your financial position.
Cash Flow Planner – All Line 50 Variants
Payment scheduler that allows short term forward cash flow planning. Displays at-a-glance outstanding
payments in and out and allows you to enter ‘what if’ scenarios.
Foreign Trader – Financial Controller
The ability to process foreign currency transactions in all major currencies, create foreign currency price
lists and handle foreign currency bank accounts.
Historical Data Analysis & Management Reporting – All Line 50 Variants
Archive a complete set of company data before running the year-end, effectively taking a snapshot of
your system. Analyse and report on archived data that is immediately available without having to restore a
back-up. Produce reports within your current set of data using previous year’s information, allowing you to
make informed business decisions.
Audit Assistant – All Line 50 Variants
Allows you to check your data for accuracy and helps prepare for an audit inspection. Identifies suspect
or duplicate transactions along with checking for possible VAT queries or errors.

Allows orders and invoices to be sent and received by e-mail rather than by post. Imports received orders
