k e e W brings colour to Auckland DHB a k Pasifi 7 Pasifika week competition This year, seven services and wards adorned their workplaces with all things Pasifika. Hats, pareu, lavalava, fine mats, tivaevae, fans and many more items from the Pacific Islands were on display. The displays were a wonderful celebration of culture, colour and diversity of each pacific ethnic group. The judges found it challenging to decide the winners and were impressed by the effort, time, and passion invested by staff. After much deliberation first prize was awarded to Ward 42 (Cardiothoracic), with second place going to the Diabetes clinic at the Greenlane Clinical Centre. Joint third place to Ward 34 (Coronary Care unit) and the Playroom, Starship. Congratulations to the winners and all the teams that set up displays. Your enthusiasm and effort was tremendous. 2 Another successful and colourful Pasifika Week took place at Auckland DHB in early March. Many wards and services got involved and took up the challenge to decorate their workplaces. Community groups also participated in the events with school performances throughout the week. The week was launched with music, dance and speeches in the level 3 atrium. Key events included Glad Blokes Talaona and a Staff Networking Event. A taste of the Pacific was on offer in the staff café. The training team used the week as an opportunity to re-launch Pacific Best Practice. The Pacific Best Practice Training is an interactive programme to improve engagement and communication with Pacific patients, their families and community. Ex All Black Eroni Clarke, a Samoan matai Leota Maronga Le-Mamea and Auckland DHB’s Sioeli Vaiangina and Fred Fata were 6 featured speakers, inspiring Pacific men who are experiencing emotional stress and physical health difficulties to seek support from health professionals. The Talanoa was facilitated by the Pacific General Manager of the Auckland and Waitemata DHBs, Pulotu Bruce Levi. Bruce said, “There was a lot of positive feedback including a recommendation to make Glad Blokes Talanoa a monthly event. It was truly an inspirational event and a first for the Pacific men of both DHBs.” Contact Sione Feki for more information. sione.feki@wdhb.govt.nz Photos 1,2,3,5: Performances and displays at the launch of Pasifika Week held in the level 3 Atrium at ACH.
