Removing Factory Taillight Open the rear door and locate the two Phillips head screws that are holding the tail light to the vehicle. Next using a Phillips head screwdriver remove these two screws. (See Fig. 1A) Then using two hands, wedge your fingers behind the top part of the taillight and pull the top of the taillight out. (See Fig. 1B) Then repeat the same process for the bottom portion of the taillight, and pull the tail light completely out from the body. (See Fig. 1C) Next, by turning the light bulb connectors counter clockwise remove the upper and lower light bulbs from the taillight. (See Figs. 1D & 1E) Note: Leave the light bulbs hanging by their wires until you are ready to reinstall them. FIG. 1A FIG. 1D FIG. 1E FIG. 2C FIG. 2D Step 2. Cleaning, Priming & Loosely Re-installing Taillight Using Windex, clean the entire taillight, especially the bottom black plastic section of the taillight. (See Fig. 2A) Next using the primer stick included, thoroughly prime the black lower section of the taillight. (See Fig. 2B) Note: The primer has to sit for 5 minutes before installing the taillight guard onto taillight. Next reinstall light bulbs, (See Figs. 2C & 2D) Then loosely reinstall the taillight onto the vehicle. (See Figs. 2E, 2F, 2G, & 2H.) Note: Fig. 2G is a close up showing one of the lower clips before it gets completely installed into one of the lower connectors. FIG. 2E Note: Lower clip before completely installed into lower connector. FIG. 1B FIG. 2A FIG. 1C FIG. 2B FIG. 2F FIG. 2G FIG. 2H Continued on other side… Step 3. Cleaning, Priming & Loosely Re-installing Taillight Begin by removing the backing from the 3M double sided tape from the bottom portions of the Taillight Guard. (See Fig. 3A) Note: Once the backing is removed, take care not to let this exposed tape touch any part of the taillight at this point, because it will get pushed into place later in Step 3. Next, place the Taillight Guard onto the top portion of the taillight. Align the Taillight Guard so the Taillight Guard Shear Form Clip is under the inside edge of the taillight lens. (See Figs. 3B, 3C & 3D) Next, holding the Taillight Guard in place on the taillight begin pushing the taillight back into place. Note: At this point find the slot on top of the Taillight Guard, and looking into the body of the vehicle align this slot with the vertical section of the body. (See Fig. 3D) Once the alignment is made with this slot, continue pushing the taillight and Taillight Guard back onto the vehicle. (See Figs. 3E & 3F) Then push the bottom portion of the Taillight Guard where the backing of the double sided tape was previously removed and push on the Taillight Guard until it seats against the bottom edge of the taillight. Once it is seated into place push and hold pressure against this section of the Taillight Guard for a several seconds. (See Fig. 3G) Next replace the two Phillips head screws and you are finished with one side. (See Figs. 3H & 3I) Repeat the same process on the other side. Note: This photo shows the Shear Form Clip before it is in place. FIG. 3C Note: Align the Taillight Guard so the Taillight Guard Shear Form Clip is under the inside edge of the taillight lens. FIG. 3G Note: Align this slot with the vertical section of the body.
