Workshop Valencia FORTHCOMING SPANISH ARCHITECTURE/VALENCIA In the last two decades the Spanish architecture has enjoyed high recognition at the international level. The consolidation of the formation of new architects in our schools and the expansion of projects, both public and private, have invaded our territory with architectural works of quality. On the other hand, the impact of the internationalization of national publications around the field of architecture has enabled the dissemination and knowledge at the international level of this important moment in the expansion and publicity of our country. The current crisis paralyzes our profession. The reality precludes the development of the practice and theory of the discipline of architecture as it has been conceived so far. We are faced with an important moment for reflection, that should question the effectiveness of the methods applied until today. "Spain mon amour” is since then the celebration of a stage, a group of architects and a construction site, but also a regret for the past that has come to an end, a complaint for a present that is currently dislocated and an invitation to think about the future in another way"1. 1 FERNÁNDEZ-GALIANO, LUÍS: Spain mon amour. Cinco oficinas, diez arquitectos, quince ciudades 13a Architecture Bienal in Venice, 2012 (August, 29th- November, 25th 2012) Workshop Valencia FORTHCOMING SPANISH ARCHITECTURE/VALENCIA MAR LOREN, Ph. D. Professor and Architect. In 1994, Mar Loren qualified as an architect at Seville University, Spain, where she has lectured since 1999. She became a fully tenured professor in 2010. She obtained an Advanced Master in Design Studies at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University in 1998 and a Master in Heritage Protection as part of the Leonardo Da Vinci program in 1997 with a grant from the European Social Fund. In 2004, she was awarded her Ph.D. from Seville University on American identity and the transfer of Spanish architecture to the United States. Her doctoral thesis was published into a book, presented in various international congresses and publications, and was the object of a major exhibition as well. Further research includes the study and cataloguing of contemporary architectonic Heritage, presented in congresses and publications, as well as the elaboration of numerous research projects and official reports. Lecturer in the United States, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Uruguay and Germany, she has also been awarded prizes and grants for her teaching, research and architectonic experience. She obtained national recognition for her research activity in 2011 and a Prize from Seville University for her research trajectory the same year. ALBERTO RUBIO GARRIDO “After I graduated as an architect, I approached gradually to the study of aesthetics. That imput led me to join the Faculty of Philosophy of Valencia, where I currently conduct my PhD thanks to a scholarship from the Spanish Department of Education. Since then, I try to bring Critical Theory, and more precisely the work of Theodor W. Adorno, into the discipline of architecture. My field of study is specifically about how instrumental transformation of the concepts of autonomy and history are involved in the deception that underlies Modern Architecture.” Workshop Valencia FORTHCOMING SPANISH ARCHITECTURE/VALENCIA IÑAKI BERGERA Iñaki Bergera received his Diploma in Architecture (1997) and PhD. Funded by the Fundación ‘la Caixa’, he graduated with distinction from Harvard University in 2002 with a Masters Degree in Architecture (MDesS).
