Penelope Umbrico. Courtesy of the artist and Mark Moore Gallery SEPTEMBER 24 – 27, 2015 // CHICAGO WELCOME TO THE 2015 FESTIVAL Hahnemühle Photo Pearl Digital Photo Media Welcome to the 7th annual Filter Photo Festival! This program is a guide to all four days of the Festival, from September 24th through September 27th. Inside you’ll find a daily schedule of the workshops, lectures, exhibition receptions, artists talks, and other programming taking place (pages 4-5). With a plethora of events planned, from the aesthetic to the technical to the social, there’s plenty to keep even the most avid photo lover busy! We’re especially pleased to welcome artist/academic Penelope Umbrico as this year’s keynote speaker. As helpful as we hope the published schedule is, some of our favorite Festival moments are those that take place by chance. Every year we look forward to the atmosphere in the Festival Lounge, where attendees have a chance to share their work and connect with each other. Thanks to our sponsors, the Lounge is also a place where attendees can learn about a variety of resources to help them realize their creative visions and professional goals. This exclusive paper features a true Baryta coating below the ink-absorbing layer. This coating is comparable with the structure of an analogue Baryta paper and allows for an extraordinary color space for brilliant color rendering. In addition, the unique barium-sulphate coating ensures a remarkable picture result – from creamy shades of white up to a velvety deep black. High color density and brilliance guarantee impressive detail sharpness for vivid high-definition exhibition quality prints. We’re proud to be contributing to the amazing photographic community that exists here in Chicago. In case you do have a little extra time during the Festival, please consider exploring a little. A full listing of area exhibitions taking place concurrently with the Festival is listed in the later part of this program (pages 31-35). 2015 has been a big year for Filter Photo! In February we opened the doors to Filter Space, a new photographic arts venue for exhibtions, workshops, and projects. If you haven’t had a chance to visit yet (or even if you have!), please join us on Sunday the 27th for a closing Festival celebration/juror’s reception for our exhibition Abstract. Thank you again for joining us. Whether you’re here for one event or for all four days, we hope you have an excellent Festival experience!
