ABU SIMBEL PIPE
ABU SIMBEL
AND ITS
REDISCOVERY
The two Abu Simbel temples were built in
Nubia in the southern part of Egypt near the
Sudanese border during the reign of the great
pharaoh Ramses II (1279 – 1213 B.C.) from
approximately 1264 until 1244 B.C.
Carved into the rock of the hills near the Nile
River the twin temples were monuments to
celebrate the successful battle of Kadesh and
as lasting memory to both Ramses II and his
wife Nefertari.
Over the centuries the temple complex
became covered by the desert sand
and finally was forgotten.
It was only in 1813 that the Swiss explorer
and Orientalist Johann-Ludwig Burckhardt
rediscovered the top part of the larger temple. Legend tells that a local boy by the name of Abu
Simbel guided Mr. Burckhardt to the site. In the following years, the Italian explorer Giovanni
Belzoni explored the site and found the entrance to the temple. The sketches and paintings of the
site made by the famous Scottish painter David Roberts during his voyages to Nubia in 1838/39
helped to make the site known to Victorian society and contributed to the excitement and the
fashion for everything Egyptian.
When the Egyptian government started to build the high dam in Aswan in 1960, the rising waters
of the newly created Lake Nasser threatened to destroy the Abu Simbel site. The UNESCO
appealed to the world and a multi-national rescue was started in 1964, successfully relocating the
whole site 200 metres back from the river and 65 metres up the mountains. By 1968, the entire
complex had been moved and the temples were saved.
An interesting astrophysical phenomenon appears twice a year, on 22 October and 22 February,
when the sun’s rays enter inside the Great Temple and illuminate the sculptures at the back wall
of the sanctuary with the exception of the one of Ptah, the god of the Underworld. It is testament
to the ingenuity of the ancient Egyptian architects.
Today the Great Temple with the 4 statues of Ramses II and the smaller temple, dedicated to
Nerfertari, are both open to the public and are among the most impressive architectural sites
to have survived antiquity.

PREFACE
THE BRITISH BULLDOG
The English or British Bulldog is an old dog breed that developed in Britain in the 16th century.
The breed was originally used for the popular ‘sport’ of bull-baiting, where several Bulldogs were
set on a Bull in a market place (or arena) to bring him down mostly by biting and holding onto its
nose. This explains the typical physiognomy of the breed such as thick folds of skin on a Bulldog's
brows and folds called "rope" above the nose (so that the blood would not flow in the eyes and
nose), hanging skin (so that if the horns of the Bull would penetrate the skin it would not damage
the vital organs) and a retracted nose from the underbite (so that the dog could still breathe while
hanging on the nose of the bull). The above combined with strong, stocky bodies, massive heads,
strong jaws and superior tenacity typified the once ferocious breed.
The Cruelty to Animals Act 1835 prohibited this ‘sport’ and the breed became almost extinct.
In 1878 the Bulldog Club was founded, the oldest single breed specialty club in England. It
promoted a breed that underwent a dramatic change from the formerly savage warrior dog to a
very docile, friendly and gentle, yet still courageous animal perfectly suited as a family pet and
show dog, which is what very much defines the British Bulldog of today.
The English Bulldog is one of the four national animals that represent England or the United
Kingdom (as are the lion, the Unicorn, and the red fox). The breed has been associated with
Winston Churchill (although he never owned one) and stands for the British Bulldog Spirit and
was extensively used and featured in the propaganda during the two World Wars. The British or
English Bulldog is also the official mascot of the United States Marine Corps and numerous U.S.
universities (such as Georgia or Yale).
Fab Diamond, shown above, has been the official mascot of the White Spot division since 2010.
She fronts our website, our consumer brochure and is used in White Spot PR visuals world-wide.

HIGHLAND CIGAR CASES
These two ‘Highland’ cigar cases have been developed to fill
a niche in the market that is not offered by any other brand.
They offer a distinct point of difference through the use of its
materials and refined colour combinations. The cases
combine finest leathers with the best of British tweed fabrics
from Savile Row, the center of bespoke tailoring in the heart
of London.
Entirely crafted by hand in Alfred Dunhill’s London
workshop by our master craftsmen over specially made
wooden lasts, these cases have been considerably enlarged to
accommodate also the newest cigar editions of large
diameters up to Ring gauge 60 – an important point when
selling to the cigar connoisseur. Each case can take two
cigars (i.e. Montecristo Grand Edmundo or Cohiba Behike
56). Furthermore, due to their telescopic construction they
are highly adaptable and can house longer and shorter cigars
‘Highland 4’ pairs an inner part hand-crafted from a traditional tweed with small black, beige
and mid-brown checks and large red check woven into a fine Saxony wool with an outer part
made from rich, but soft chocolate-brown grained leather. Both parts are lined with mid brown
goat leather and stamped with gold foil.
‘Highland 5’ has a more elegant look by combining a finely worsted olive-brown wool cloth with
Herringbone pattern and large red checks for the inner while a tan Bridle leather is used for the
outer. Both are lined with a dark olive stamped cowhide and silver embossing.
Being a limited production of only 130 units each for world-wide distribution, once this
quantity is sold no further production will be possible.
World-wide launch July 2014.
