Information on Clubmark / Knowsley Clubmark accreditation Dear PE Co-ordinator re: School Club Links Programme The School Club Links programme is a fundamental part of the Government’s National School Sports Strategy. Its purpose is to strengthen the links between schools and local sports clubs and, in so doing, increase the number of children and young people who become members of high quality clubs. Hopefully, by creating effective school club links, it will lead to young people adopting a healthier lifestyle, enjoying sport and encouraging life long participation. A School Club Link is an agreement between a school and a community based sports club to work together to: • Meet the needs of young people • Provide new and varied opportunities for young people • Help young people to realise their ambitions • Agree good standards of provision. The agreement works on a three tiered system which clearly identifies which level your club link is currently operating and highlights shared responsibility. The agreement will also assist in the collection, monitoring and reporting of PESSYP targets. Only sports clubs with Clubmark / Knowsley Clubmark status or working towards this accreditation will form links with schools, this demonstrates that the sport club is high quality through accreditation from their relevant National Governing Body of sport. This will ensure that children and young people will be participating in clubs which are deemed safe, child friendly and will consist of high quality fully qualified coaches. Sports clubs which meet the necessary standards which are local to the school will be prioritised when forming school-club links to ensure that barriers such as transport cost to children are at a minimal. The enclosed documents outline the school club link agreement which has been developed by Knowsley Sports Development in consultation with Governing Bodies of Sport and School Sport Partnerships. It provides a full explanation of the benefits of formalised school club links and the minimum operating standards for certification. Also enclosed is a comprehensive Club Directory featuring all the Sport Clubs in Knowsley with relevant contact details and if the club is accredited with either Clubmark or Knowsley Clubmark status, this will support your school in establishing high quality links with local clubs. You will be provided with a certificate of recognition upon completion of this school-club link agreement, and the club will keep a register of new members which will be passed onto the school to ensure monitoring and evaluation of the link. For further information please do not hesitate to contact me. What is Clubmark? Clubmark is the Sport England cross sport quality accreditation for clubs with a junior section. National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs) accredit clubs that comply with minimum operating standards in four areas: • The playing and participation programme. • Duty of care and child protection. • Sports equity and ethics • Club management Clubmark demonstrates to partners, parents and young people that Clubmark accredited club are: • Active - Getting the best out of young people. • Accessible - Giving everyone a sporting chance. • Accredited - The Sport England mark of high quality. What Knowsley Clubmark is? Knowsley Sports Development Service validates clubs that do not have a National Governing Body of Sport (NGB’s) “Clubmark” accreditation scheme but comply with the minimum operating standards required. This accreditation recognises the development and commitment of clubs that are deemed safe, effective and child friendly. NGB’s that do not accredit clubs with “Clubmark” status include Baseball, Martial Arts and other minority sports.
