Degrees Diplomas Certificates Foundation Programmes Pre-employment or entrylevel programmes for people returning to study or needing introductory study for their chosen field. 8 8 | weltec.ac.nz Certificates provide a broad introduction to a range of skills and knowledge in a particular subject area. Certificates at levels 2 to 4 are often needed for entry into trades and service employment. Certificates can also provide direct entry into diplomas and degrees. Diplomas are often required for entry to advanced trade, technical and professional occupations. Diplomas may provide direct entry into a degree qualification and, in many cases, courses from the diploma may be credited toward degree qualifications. Degree qualifications are generally required for entry or advancement in professions. They also provide further opportunities for study at masters or doctoral level. A degree usually requires a minimum of three years’ full-time study (or the parttime equivalent). Graduate Certificates & Diplomas Specialised programmes at level 7 for people who already have degrees or substantial work experience in their field. In many cases, study at a lower level in a subject will count towards gaining a higher-level qualification. Well-recognised qualifications Credit for what you already know WelTec certificates, diplomas, degrees and graduate diplomas are NZQAaccredited and, with City and Guilds and other international qualifications on offer, your qualification will be well recognised – both here and overseas. Find out about our recognition of prior learning and recognition of current competence processes. You could save yourself extra work and time, if you already have some relevant skills. In Ian’s view, the advantage of the vocational approach is that WelTec graduates are work-ready to the point they can engage directly with clients. Fronde is one of the local companies represented on WelTec’s Information Technology Advisory Committee and provides the committee with advice on changes in the workplace and industry trends that need to be reflected in its qualifications. “Industry engagement is critical for institutions like WelTec and we’re very pleased to be part of the small employer group that gives advice and support on IT trends,” says Ian. “A key to attracting excellent graduates is being able to create and demonstrate a vision of what they can become, and our partnership with WelTec means Fronde is in a position to do exactly that and show what career possibilities are out there,” says Ian.
