INICIATIVAS PROPOSTAS Apresentação das diferentes iniciativas propostas para a edição de 2011 For a strong Sense of Responsibility “SME`s main problems are well known: the loss of capital, fiscal and administrative overload, difficulty in accessing credit, the “spread” volume and most of all , the rigid labor, with its well-known inherent consequences to the economic and social context. It is justified, therefore, to ask: Is solving these problems the first and main obligation of a businessman? Without a shadow of a doubt” NUNO FERNANDES THOMAZ* in ACEGE website 2 Introduction: ACEGE in collaboration with CIP, the IAPMEI and APIFARMA want, within 6 months, to sensitize and involve the business leaders and the community as a whole, to the necessity of changing deep rooted behavior patterns that jeopardize the Portuguese economic competitiveness and the future sustainability of the companies themselves. A program that imposes itself in the current socio-economic situation, in the sense that it was this situation that originated deep transformations in both the economic and management slope within the companies. The consumption patterns change, the heightening of the market aggressiveness, the rising inability of managing the treasury, direct consequence of a decreasing volume of business, the consecutive payment delays, and the difficulty in accessing credit, “forced” a lot of companies to adopt the notion of “survival” as their strategic objective, with every consequence that will come with it. A dramatic reality that is necessary to invert, framing the difficult role of the business leaders and empowering the small and medium sized companies with specific actions, supported on referenced partners, capable of involving 3 the leaders and pinpointing solution trails. It is in times of crisis that the leader has to fully embrace his mission in developing the company, the employees, the families and the society where they are all part of. For this reason the importance of this program that congregates and involves different partners, bolsters a broaden vision and warrants a cultural change. 3 The Program: The program`s objective is to fight against the lack of competitiveness of the micro small and medium enterprises, via free assumption, for a wide bundle of enterprises and organizations, with good practices to boost their business activity and, therefore, accomplish their social function and thus creating a virtuous cycle for the economy. A goal that in order to be achieved implies the ability of generating a strong dynamic, capable of personally involving the business leaders with the implementation of programs with effective outcomes for the company. Seven areas of operation were chosen to represent all the dynamics involving the relationship between the company and the reality – The Leader, the Enterprise, the employees, the Community, the Suppliers, the Clients, the Ecoefficiency – all framed within the AconteSER brand that binds them all 4 together. Three core actions were chosen and defined that profoundly affect the business “life” and that if worked upon correctly and in a complementary fashion may result in effect earnings for the employees, the company and society. Actions that may be adopted by micro, small and medium enterprises of all fields of business. Actions that are representative of profound outlooks and values, beyond themselves, that potentiate issues around the lider`s business mission and the social function of the companies. 4 The actions: Kit AconteSER. To promote socially responsible leaderships in the SME´s, through the facilitation of materials in order to provide incentives towards the implementation of simple and practical initiatives with potential measurable and observable results. Accomplished through a box, the kit gathers theoretical information, measurement of knowledge questionnaires and commitment letters that will help each leader in implementing and adapting the proper steps in their own companies in order to reach a wider awareness of the fundamental role of a responsible leadership. Around 7 specific thematic areas that surround the company´s “life” we want to make ACONTESER happen and offer the market a brand and a network of solid specific proposals that will be a real aid in developing SME, as well as a base of operative networking for future actions and endeavors. National Action Kit delivering The release of the ACONTESER KIT: 50 simultaneously workshops all over the country for SMEs leaders. It involved more than 750 SMEs; These workshops have the following goals: • Presenting the ACONTESER – LEADING WITH RESPONSIBILITY initiative • Presenting the ACONTESER KIT with the respective contents • “Dynamising” groups that promote the personal commitment with the letter of commitment and adherence to the “make ACONTESER happen”, etc • Promoting a positive spirit over CSR initiatives and the manner in which can be contributed for the socio-economic development of their companies 5 Apresentação da iniciativa CD SUMMARY Contains all the available information on the matter, is organized in a comprehensible fashion. We intend to make available practical information to SMEs leaders that want to reflect and put into action social responsibility related initiatives in their companies. ACONTESER LIBRARY Integrated Library available online at the VER website, displaying content related to theoretical and practical information regarding social responsibility in the SMEs as well as interviews with the main stakeholders involved. 6 CARDS A deck of cards with ideas related to responsible leadership that can be applied to a company. These cards display practical approaches to initiatives, in different areas, taking in consideration the different parties with vested interests. QUESTIONNAIRE A measurement of responsible leadership knowledge questionnaire coupled with action proposals. Certificate Commitment Letter A certificate/Commitment letter that the manager adheres within the area of social responsibility. . 6 Cards make ACONTESER happen These cards display a practical approach to the social responsibility initiatives, categorized, taking in consideration the different interested parties. They are practical ideas easy to put into action; they depend exclusively on the initiative of the manager and with very low costs associated to the company; • • The Leader Self discovery process (JASON) Alignment between my skills and the company´s necessities (JASON) The Company Values, Vision, mission and company objectives (ACCENTURE) Business ethics Promotion (ACEGE) • • • • • The Employees Evaluation and acknowledgment of the employees (JASON) Family and work conciliation measures (More Family) The Comunity Corporate volunteering (GRACE) Relationship with the Third Sector (GRACE) The Suppliers Timely payment (ACEGE / CIP) Good practices when selecting suppliers (SUSTENTARE) The clients and consumers Inovation (ACCENTURE) Costumer satisfaction (JASON) Eco-eficiency Cleaner production Energetic efficiency and reduction of CO2 emissions 7 The actions: The actions to develop within the first phase of the program are as follows: • Kit AconteSER that fosters and frames the adoption of good practices, through cards that encourage the implementation of simple initiatives and practices with potential measurable results. • Three business commitments that signal and remind the business leaders of the importance of achieving their basic management obligations – the prompt payment to suppliers commitment - respecting the life projects of their employees – the employees life project commitment – and integrated in a community dynamic where they placed themselves – commitment to the family/society. Three honorable commitments that potentiate the most basic social function of the companies, to assure the sustainability and excellence of their actions. Framework: The principal of timely pay according to the pre-arranged date seems basic for the life of any socially responsible company, unfortunately, due to the crisis but mostly due to a culture of permissiveness, it is not abided by the majority, and what makes it worse is that it is accepted as inevitable by the general market. It is a reality that has an enormous influence on the life and dynamism of the economy, and in particular on the day to day of the small and medium sized companies, that find themselves pitted against disloyal competitive practices thus threatening their own survival. It is essential for each business leader and each business to search for an alternative to this reality, committing themselves to that goal, and accordingly to their capabilities, attending to their supplier`s payments on time. In this fashion, simple and basic, where they only depend on themselves, a virtuous cycle can commence, capable of congregating many other companies and influencing effectively the financial flux between companies and ultimately rescuing the Portuguese economy. 8 x 9 x 10
