Our Golf Course Much due credit goes to our Course Maintenance team who are responsible for the excellent course conditions we currently enjoy. I am proud to declare with the utmost confidence that the JCC new 18 is indeed amongst one of the most well maintained and enjoyable courses in Singapore. I therefore entrust our Course Manager Cheong Ming with the task of keeping our course this way as we are treated to the fruits of our labour, watching the health of our greens improve. As time goes on, we shall strive to increase our green speed in order to regularly play around 8.5 to 9.0 plus which would be ideal for a challenging round of golf here at JCC. I am also pleased that we have many golf members who are passionate about the course and their devotion is evident in the fact that they repair divots and ball marks, even those not created by them during their game. You know who you are and I thank you all on behalf of JCC. Please keep it up! Pending Project - Short Game Practice area (near the executive course hole 5) In my previous messages, I mentioned our goal to achieve the “Best in Class” golf course status in terms of playability and I am truly overjoyed to say that we have done it. There is no time like the present to move our course up by yet another notch via improvements in landscaping, water features as well as other minor features in and around the course which our Golf Committee and Course team are working together to achieve. When the idea of a Short Game Practice area was conceived several months back, the first step we took was engaging our course architect EG Paslow to draw up site plans and provide an initial cost analysis which amounted to an estimated $250k. The Golf Committee deliberated and upon GC’S approval at the estimated $250k budget, management called for an open tender sometime in August/September 2014. The lowest bid submitted was above our budget. SGA - ICL 2014 The SGA inter club league 2014 season concluded recently. Unfortunately we did not perform as well as we did in the previous season, finishing in 6th position out of 13 clubs. A round of congratulations go out to our Men’s A division who finished 2nd in their division and Ladies B division who finished 3rd. Though we did not surpass our position of 2nd in the previous 2013 season, I must commend the efforts of our participants. Our thanks go out to our attire sponsor CPG - Cobra Puma Golf for their generous contribution throughout the league. Kudos to our League Manager John Soh for his leadership and tireless effort, having attended every single game to show his unwavering support. We also appreciate the efforts of our various team Captains, namely Albert Ng of the Seniors Division, Andrew Cher of the A Division, Gene Quek of the Premier Division, Robert Yew of the B Division, Jasmine Ng of Ladies A & B and most of all to all Team JCC players for their unshakable team camaraderie and fighting spirit. Thank you all for your die-hard efforts and for sacrificing your Sundays to represent the Club. Let us keep the JCC flag flying high and attempt to perform better in the upcoming 2015 season. In line with keeping our members updated, we have had several discussions with the likely contractor to discuss how the quoted price can be reduced via suggested options such as downsizing the intended design as well as doing some works in-house. This is a workable option which is within our budget To conclude on this issue, the project will nevertheless go forth somehow as we aim to push through only if we can deliver an excellent finished product for our members. We thank you for your patience and promise you will be pleased with the completed project that will be coming your way very soon. Last but not least, on behalf of the President and General Committee Members, I would like to extend our heartfelt best wishes for the year end holiday season. Merry Christmas and a most exciting New Year 2015 to one and all! Ross Tan Captain 3 news Personal Data Protection Act The Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) came into effect on 2 July 2014. In order to better educate our staff on the regulations governing this act, two training sessions were arranged at the Club. As Jurong Country Club collects and utilizes a vast amount of personal data, it is of utmost importance that Club policies are aligned with the guidelines stipulated in the PDPA Act. The training sessions assisted greatly in instilling in our staff a better understanding of PDPA concepts via the use of case studies personalized to address the issue of data protection in the context of our Club and its various departments. Through the course, staff also obtained the tools through which improved data protection and management policies can be developed to better safeguard the personal information of members. Repairing Pitch Marks The wet season is fast approaching and there is no better time to remind golfers about the importance of repairing pitch marks (marks created by golf balls) on the greens. Why repair pitch marks: 1. All golfers can have a smooth putt across the green and into the pin hole. 2. If pitch holes are not repaired, the line of putt for golfers coming in later flights will be affected. 3. Repairing of pitch marks results in quicker recovery of the green’s putting surface. Recovery time of unrepaired pitch marks is much lengthier. Did you know? Ball marks repaired within 10 minutes will heal with a smooth surface within 2-3 days. An unrepaired ball mark may take as long as 10-14 days to heal and the resulting surface will be uneven. Unrepaired pitch mark on the following morning. A much longer healing time is required and pitch marks will be more severe during rainy periods. repaired has been h ic h w rk pitch ma The same A fresh pit ch mark on the green pitch pairing e r in us to putt assist re able a s r e Please lf tion t all go oopera so tha Your c . e e c marks a f g cin th vel sur enhan in rse on a le y u a o w ip c a long pionsh m a will go h C our ! ent of and all enjoym by one 9 golf Rcc vs Jcc Inter-Club Game Raffles Country Club hosted the Annual Inter-Club game on Sunday, 27 July 2014. This prestigious event hosted on local greens and attended by Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong consisted of 260 participants from 6 ASEAN countries vying for Golfing Glory. Conquering the courses at Singapore Island Country Club(SICC) and emerging with 2 accolades under his belt - 5th position Individual Best Net and as a member of the Singapore team for Best Nett Champion, Dicky is no stranger to Golfing success as the winner of Best Nett in Jogiakarta the previous year. We met up with this seasoned golfer to discuss his recent achievements in a bid to uncover his secret to success. Dicky maintains that strenuous training is essential to playing great golf. Good golfers, apart from focusing on perfecting their skills, should also concentrate on the mental and physical aspects of the game. Dicky’s rigorous training routine includes regular sessions at the Driving Range and swimming. He also credits his experience of representing JCC as a league player with providing him the necessary exposure to playing with different players of diverse backgrounds and nationalities. Sharing his success story, Dicky mentioned that there are no shortcuts in Golf and a good instructor is essential to provide guidance in the mastery of correct golf techniques. Besides talent and practice, which are key ingredients in the molding of a Champion, Dicky Tan proves that dedication and perseverance go a long way. For the fourth year in a row, National Service Resort & Country Club (NSRCC) emerged as the overall champion at the prestigious event organized by the Singapore Golf Association. Coming in close behind was Tanah Merah Country Club (TMCC). Though JCC missed out on the grand championship prize this year coming in the 5th position, the efforts of our golfers were highly commendable amidst various obstacles such as the absence of some of our most adept golfers like our premier league player Jesse Yap, who is currently pursuing his studies overseas along with several of our Junior League players who are presently putting golf on hold to serve our nation. Our A Division players lost the championship on count back to SICC, in spite of winning the previous year. The Ladies Division placed 3rd entering the finals and won both matches in the final but lost out on the Runner Up placing by a mere half a point.
